Model Miranda Kerr Is Selling Her Longtime Malibu Compound

Ten years ago, fresh off her divorce from actor Orlando Bloom, a newly single Miranda Kerr paid $2.2 million for a 0.73-acre property in the far western reaches of Malibu, sequestered at the end of a little-known cul-de-sac above Pacific Coast Highway. Since then, much has changed. The former Victoria’s Secret model is now married to billionaire Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel, with whom she shares an international portfolio of lavish estates and several children.

So while the Kerr-Spiegels have continued to use the Malibu home as a local getaway, it’s probably no surprise that the couple has now opted to unload the relatively petite spread, a hillside compound comprised of four separate buildings. The nearly $4.5 million asking price reflects the numerous custom upgrades Kerr has made to the place during her decade of ownership, plus the continued surge in Malibu property values. It’s worth noting that the property also has a rich Hollywood history—for decades, until his 2009 death in this house, the place was owned by acclaimed actor James Whitmore, perhaps best known to the current generations for his prime role in the 1994 film The Shawshank Redemption.

The all-white main house features breezy, open-plan living space and windows that frame peek-a-boo views of the ocean.

    Marcelo Lagos

In the single-story, nearly 2,200-square-foot main house, open plan and all-white living areas includes aliving room with wide-plank wood floors, a raised hearth stone and fireplace surrounded by built-in bookshelves, a vaulted and beamed ceiling, and a pentagonal wall of windows with a serene, through-the-trees ocean view. The adjoining and also ocean view dining area has glass sliders on two walls and is divided from the upgraded kitchen by a stool-height snack counter.

Two family bedrooms share an unusually spacious hall bathroom with wood floors, dramatically vaulted and sky-lit ceiling and a huge tiled vanity. The master bedroom offers several Palladian-style windows with whitewater views, access to an ocean view deck and a renovated bathroom with an oversized and skylit shower space.

There’s a brick terrace around the swimming pool and attached spa as well as a vast, partly covered and trellis-shaded deck that wraps around the dining room end of the house and makes a broad run the full length of the house. Tall trees and towering bamboo shoots that shade the deck both obscure and frame glimmering vistas over the ocean.

Also on the lush property are a pond suitable for koi, large wooden decks and off-street parking for a dozen or more cars.

    Marcelo Lagos

The three other structures on the property are comprised of a 684-square-foot pool house equipped with a gym and changing facilities, plus two hillside guesthouses—both of them weighing in at under 500 square feet but one slightly larger than the other. All told, the property offers six bedrooms, five full bathrooms and a single powder room. Brian Goldberg of Luxury Malibu Property holds the listing.

For the moment, Kerr and Spiegel mainly reside in L.A.’s Brentwood neighborhood, in a $12 million mansion once owned by Harrison Ford. The couple also maintains a $30 million villa in Paris, France, a vineyard estate in Kerr’s native Australia and a $120 million mega-estate in Holmby Hills that’s finally nearing completion after years of construction. Spiegel, who was raised in L.A.’s posh Pacific Palisades neighborhood, also continues to own the very first house he ever bought — a charming $3 million “cottage” on a narrow street in Brentwood.

Malibu’s Only Robert Skinner-Designed Home Sells to a Prominent Video Game Exec

Upon relocating to California over six decades ago, German-born physicist Gisela Eckhardt—best known as co-inventor of the Raman laser—was looking to put down stakes in the Los Angeles area. She wound up falling in love with a Robert Skinner-designed house in the Trousdale Estates neighborhood of Beverly Hills and subsequently enlisted the modernist architect to create a ranch-style home for her in the eastern reaches of Malibu, directly above Big Rock Beach.

Completed in 1966 and sold for $4 million in late 2020 after Eckhardt’s passing to a real estate developer with Maison d’Artiste—complete with a staunch promise he had made to her that he would preserve the place in keeping with Skinner’s original design—the extensively restored property popped up on the market again in late 2022, asking a speck under $12 million.

Now, a little over a year and several price reductions later, the residence has traded hands once more, this time going for $9 million to digital media and technology veteran Javier Ferreira, co-CEO of the interactive entertainment company and mobile games publisher Scopely.

A dining area and sunken living room offer up sweeping ocean views.

    Joel Danto

Skinner’s one and only Malibu creation, the midcentury gem is aptly known as the “Eckhardt House,” and features four bedrooms and three bathrooms in roughly 2,700 square feet of open-concept living space boasting newer terrazzo floors paired with whitewashed interiors, block walls and natural oak accents. Vast expanses of glass also provide sweeping city lights and ocean views from almost every room.

Resting amid a bluff-top parcel spanning nearly 3 acres, and protected by a security system, the striking all-white structure is fronted by a motorcourt and an attached two-car garage. Double doors open into an entry foyer that flows to a sunken living room sporting a decorative floating-hearth fireplace, while an adjacent dining area adorned with a massive mural adjoins an eat-in kitchen outfitted with bespoke cabinetry, Corian countertops, and top-tier Fisher & Paykel and Miele appliances.

Numerous spots spread across the terraced grounds are ideal for enjoying the breathtaking scenery.

    Joel Danto

Elsewhere is a glass-lined primary suite flaunting a built-in desk, private sauna and walk-in closet, as well as a spa-inspired bath equipped with dual vanities and a custom waterfall shower. Outdoors, the terraced backyard hosts a large white-bottom pool, fire-pit, “strolling gardens,” and numerous patios ideal for al fresco lounging and entertaining.

The listing was held by Elizabeth Donovan of Coldwell Banker Realty; David Caskey and Jeremy Robinson of eXp Realty of California repped Ferreira.

Camille Grammer Quietly Unloads Her Oceanfront Malibu Retreat

Seems as though Camille Grammer’s Malibu fortunes have dramatically improved. Several years after her other Malibu house burned down—a victim of California’s devastating Woolsey Fire—the former OG cast member of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, who still frequently pops upon the show, has sold a different Malibu house for $9.4 million. That’s significantly more than the $6.6 million she paid for the place about seven years ago.

Unfortunately, since the deal closed off-market and the house was never publicly offered for sale, photos and details are scant. But dated rental listings and tax records paint a semi-complete picture of the quintessentially SoCal oceanfront residence, which Grammer quickly renovated following her purchase.

Now partly clad in reclaimed wood planks that provide the three-story contemporary with a beachy, organic edge, the house is entered through a sunken courtyard garden and configured with three roomy bedrooms and three contemporary bathrooms in just over 1,600 square feet.

Stretching the full width of the house, the combination living/dining room flows easily out through not-quite floor-to-ceiling glass sliders to a huge deck with ship-like ocean and sunset views. A peninsula snack bar divides the dining area from the essentially brand new and fairly utilitarian kitchen that sports Shaker-style cabinets painted a milky and demure white, stone countertops and commercial-grade stainless steel appliances.

The top floor is devoted entirely to a spacious master suite that offers a fireplace topped by a flatscreen TV, a glass-walled reading nook, a small terrace with impressive coastline views and a marble-floored bathroom with a skylight topped shower. A small, adjoining bonus room could be utilized as a private office, a nursery or a yoga studio. As for the home’s two guest bedrooms, one of them opens to the entry courtyard and the other, on the partially subterranean lowest level, spills out to a partially covered dining and lounging deck with a hot tub, outdoor shower and direct access to the beach.

Records reveal the spendy new owners of Grammer’s oceanfront getaway are married couple Robert and Jennifer Lopata, he an executive at property management firm LPBM and she the Beverly Hills-bred founder of an educational consultancy firm. As for Grammer herself, she and second husband David C. Meyer still own and reside at their longtime main residence in L.A.’s prestigious Brentwood Park community. More

Restoration Hardware’s CEO Pays $28 Million for His Second Malibu Beach House

Move over Larry Ellison, there’s a new mogul cutting into your longtime Malibu turf. On exclusive Carbon Beach, where Ellison owns no fewer than 13 houses, two eye-catching contemporary homes recently sold. Back in August, a 5,600-square-foot 1990s build went for $26.7 million, and now a 4,000-square-foot stunner about 12 doors away just closed for $28.5 million.

Records reveal both lavish beach houses were bought by the same man: Gary Friedman, the billionaire chief executive of the high-end furnishings juggernaut formerly known as Restoration Hardware.

It’s not clear why Friedman wants or needs two spacious and vaguely similar-looking houses on the same stretch of sand, but it’s entirely possible that one will serve as his temporary “crash pad” while the other is undergoing renovations, or perhaps one is intended to be guesthouse for friends and family.

Friedman’s second Carbon Beach house is a 1950s structure that’s been radically reimagined in recent years.

Whatever the case, Friedman’s latest acquisition has a bit of a interesting ownership history. From 2018 until 2021, the house was owned by billionaire Robert F. Smith, who used the place as a high-end income property, frequently renting the place out to short-term tenants. In late 2021, Smith sold the house for $21.8 million to noted property developer Saffron Case and her husband Timothy. The Cases held onto the place for two years, giving it a thorough remodel, before flipping it to Friedman for the aforementioned $28.5 million.

Guarded by an electronic driveway gate, the redwood-sided structure includes an expansive great room adorned with custom rift cabinetry and plaster walls, plus a separate bar area. Fully remodeled, the kitchen includes stone countertops and white oak cabinetry. Three of the home’s bedrooms are located on the main floor, while the lavish primary suite rungs the full length of the house and includes a private office, a spa-style bathroom and boutique-style closet.

Out back, a 60-foot wooden deck fronts the beach. Ideal for entertaining, the backyard area also includes a built-in barbecue center, a fire-pit and an outdoor shower for hosing off the sand.

With just one brief interruption, Friedman has been CEO of RH, the company formerly known as Restoration Hardware since 2001, and has overseen multiple reinventions of the luxury home furnishings retailer. Today, the San Francisco native sports a net worth that tops $1.6 billion, per Forbes. In addition to his two new Carbon Beach retreats, he also maintains a Beverly Hills mansion, that recently popped up for sale with a $44 million asking price. Last year, the San Francisco native sold a half-built Los Angeles estate for $24 million to an anonymous buyer. More

Kanye West Is Asking $53 Million for His Tadao Ando-Designed Malibu Home

Just two years ago, Kanye West was still flying high on the success of his billion-dollar Yeezy sneaker brand. He bought two separate Wyoming ranches, including one that spanned more than 3,000 acres. The money seemed endless; he also shelled out $57 million, in cash, for an oceanfront Malibu house designed by famed Japanese architect Tadao Ando. And in the midst of his acrimonious divorce from Kim Kardashian, he bought a house directly across the street from her Hidden Hills residence, just because.

Both California properties are gone and going, respectively — that Hidden Hills house was recently sold at a six-figure loss, while the Malibu manor is now up for grabs at $53 million. Even in the unlikely event of a full-price offer, West stands to lose many millions of dollars on the property, once realtor fees and closing costs have been factored into the equation. And it’s not even clear if he ever spent a night at the house, which was completely gutted during his ownership.

The current listing, held by Selling Sunset star Jason Oppenheim of the Oppenheim Group, includes a few years-old photos of the place. But it doesn’t look anything like that today—aerial imagery shows most all of the walls and doors are now gone, and the interior finishes have likely made their way to a landfill. Oppenheim told the Wall Street Journal that a buyer will need to spend “several million dollars” just to make the house livable.

In its current state, the Malibu home will require millions of dollars in renovation costs alone.

    Backgrid

West had intended to redesign and update the 4,000-square-foot structure, but that was shortly before Adidas parted ways with the 46-year-old rapper due to his numerous antisemitic remarks, allegedly leaving his finances in disarray. As it stands now, the building is a concrete shell exposed to the elements. Railings and metal trim pieces around the house have visibly rusted, likely beyond salvageability.

It will be interesting to see what sale price the oceanfront property eventually commands—particularly because it sits cheek-to-jowl next to other homes, nearly all of which are worth a mere fraction of West’s $53 million sticker. But this home does benefit from its unique pedigree; it’s one of the few stateside residences ever designed by Ando, who has become one of the billionaire elite’s most sought-after architects.

West, who remains one of the world’s most successful record producers and one of the best-selling artists of all time, is likely nowhere near poor. But he seems to be shifting away from real estate ownership—when he’s not out traveling the globe with “wife” Bianca Censori, he frequently bunks up for months at a time in some of L.A.’s most expensive hotels, including the oceanfront Nobu Ryokan. Mark Zuckerberg’s Money Manager Snags a Pristine Malibu Estate for $6 Million

Over the past two decades, the vast wealth created by the emergence of Silicon Valley has also created enormous opportunity for a handful of particularly savvy and well-networked wealth managers. The most successful of those managers have carved out a niche catering to the valley’s famously clannish billionaire elites.

But very few wealth managers anywhere have been as successful as Michael Anders and his San Francisco-based, famously secretive outfit Iconiq Capital. Described by Forbes in 2014 as “an obscure Silicon Valley firm” that’s technically an ordinary registered investment advisory, the 12-year-old company has been molded by its founders—Divesh Makan, Will Griffith, Chad Boeding and Anders—into a highly exclusive billionaires club that “operates as a cross between a family office and a venture capital fund.”

Today, Iconiq’s client list reads like a who’s-who of Silicon Valley greats. But their most famous client, and the inarguable key to their success, is Mark Zuckerberg, who met Makan in 2004—back when Facebook was still in diapers. Zuckerberg gave fledgling Iconiq a big name in Silicon Valley, and the company’s client roster now includes many of the area’s most high-profile billionaires, including Sheryl Sandberg and Dustin Moskovitz, LinkedIn’s Reid Hoffman and Twitter’s Jack Dorsey. Also now clients of Iconiq are folks outside tech’s inner circle—billionaire hedge funders David Bonderman, Henry Kravis, and Tiger Global Management’s Chase Coleman, all of whom have nabbed seats on the company’s board of directors.

At the beginning of 2022, Iconiq had more than $80 billion in assets under management, ranking the secretive firm as one of the country’s fastest venture capital/private equity success stories. And while it’s not exactly clear how much money has trickled down to Iconiq’s executive ranks, it’s certainly been kind to the net worth of Anders. Back in May, the Columbia University grad paid cash for a $6 million shack, of sorts, on Malibu‘s Point Dume.

Built in 1953, the two-bedroom cottage features big grassy lawns in its front and backyards.

    Kensington & Beverly

Measuring in with two bedrooms and two bathrooms in just 1,300 square feet, the 1950s ranch-style house is resolutely unremarkable but somehow charming with its glitz-free nature. Last sold in 2021 for $5 million, the structure was offloaded to Anders by Dictionary.com cofounder Brian Kariger.

Because this deal was inked off-market, current photos are scant. But we do know that the house was recently remodeled, with new hardwood floors, a new and refreshingly simple kitchen, two new storage sheds and a newly spiffy two-car garage. The landlocked structure sits out of sight behind gates, a long driveway and a tall hedge for privacy.

Still, it’s clear that despite the bungalow’s attributes, the real value here is the land. The home sits on a 1.3-acre flat parcel, making it one of the bigger properties on Point Dume, and it also transferred with a coveted beach key to Malibu’s celebrity-loved and semi-private Little Dume Beach. And while it’s not yet clear what Anders’ longterm plans are for the property, it’s entirely possible he could already be designing a new home worthy of a multimillionaire wealth manager to take this one’s place. An Heir to the Anheuser-Busch Dynasty Has Put a $4.5 Million Price Tag on His Oceanview Malibu Home

On the celebratory heels of welcoming twins, outdoorsy Anheuser-Busch heir Billy Busch Jr., who oversees the hunting and outdoor gear concern Geist, and his professional surfer wife, Kirra (Seale) Busch, have hoisted their fashionably updated 1960s home in Malibu on the market at $4.45 million.

Technically, the property was acquired in August of 2020 for not quite $2.7 million by a family trust controlled by Busch Jr.’s father, William K. Busch, aka Billy Busch Sr. Both Junior and Senior Busches starred in the 2020 MTV reality series The Busch Family Brewed.

Discreetly set below the street on a downward sloping, quarter-acre parcel with a sweeping, over-the-treetops view of the Pacific Ocean, the flat-roofed residence was built in 1962 in the foothills above County Line Beach at the border between Los Angeles and Ventura counties. The single-story home has recently undergone a sleek transformation to include high-end finishes, wide-plank honey-toned oak floors, and dark-framed windows.

Dark-framed glass sliders in the dining area frame sweeping views of the ocean.

    Alexis Adam

Beyond the gated courtyard entrance and the smooth stucco exterior, the front door opens directly into the 1,909-square-foot home’s open-plan great room. At one end of the angled space, huge glass sliders connect the living room to the terraced backyard and swimming pool. At the opposite end, a dining area with a built-in dining banquette has glass sliders to an ocean view deck.

In between the living and dining areas is a huge kitchen centered around a long work island with an integrated snack bar and a marble countertop that waterfalls off the ends. A full-height bank of black-lacquered cabinets holds an induction range, double ovens, and the fridge, while a row of windows alongside the sink opens accordion style to an alfresco serving bar for outdoor dining and entertaining.

Among the three bedrooms and two baths is the primary suite, where two walls of glass sliders open the sunny bedroom to a wraparound deck and the swimming pool. There’s also a fitted walk-in closet and a spacious bathroom.

Lush plantings envelope and privatize the terraced backyard.

    Alexis Adam

Outside, dark decking bordered by plumes of flowering shrubbery meanders along the backside of the house, while a small container pool includes a window for checking out the view of the ocean while swimming underwater. A long stairway leads down the terraced slope from the house to a courtyard patio with a fire pit.

Being at the far western end of Malibu, the house is about 30 miles and, on a good day, a solid 45-minute drive to the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. However, it’s a much shorter distance to Nobu Malibu and an even lesser distance to the Trancas Country Mart. Perhaps best yet, it’s just up the hill from some of Malibu’s best surfing spots as well as Neptune’s Net, the 1950s gas station turned legendary seafood restaurant that’s been featured in countless films and TV shows, including the 1983 Tom Cruise film Losin’ It and Vanderpump Rules (it’s where Jax Taylor proposed to Brittany Cartwright during season seven of the wildly popular reality series).

The listing is held by Sean Matthews at Compass.

YouTuber Cody Ko’s Cozy Oceanfront Beach House in Malibu Resurfaces for $3.7 Million

Now that Cody Ko has had a few months to settle into Reese Witherspoon’s former vacation home resting in the foothills just above Malibu’s Zuma Beach, the popular YouTuber/podcaster and his fellow influencer wife Kelsey Kreppel are doubling down on their efforts to unload the oceanfront getaway in the far western reaches of the same city that they’ve shared since winter 2021. First listed for a smidge under $4 million, the house just popped up for sale again, this time with a reduced $3.7 million asking price.

Purchased by Ko for $3.6 million barely two years ago, back in winter 2021, the dwelling was built in the early 1970s and has since been extensively renovated. Nestled within a gated community right next to a contemporary Ed Niles-designed mansion that’s currently listed for nearly $60 million, the property includes a two-bedroom, two-bath main house, plus a detached guesthouse with its own bedroom and bath, for a total of almost 1,800 square feet of living space offering sweeping coastline views stretching from the Channel Islands to Catalina.

An open-air courtyard separating the main home and guesthouse is spotlighted by a custom-built fireplace.

As for the main two-story home, highlights include a living room displaying a floor-to-ceiling stacked-stone fireplace and glass doors spilling out to a covered wood deck overlooking the Pacific. Also standing out on the bottom floor is a small yet sleekly designed kitchen, which comes complete with granite countertops, top-tier stainless appliances and an accompanying dining area.

The primary bedroom has wall-to-wall windows framing picturesque ocean vistas.

Two en-suite bedrooms can be found on the upper level, including a glass-lined master retreat sporting a luxe bath equipped with a snazzy vanity and soaking tub/shower combo; and rounding it all out is the aforementioned guesthouse, which is separated from the primary home by an open-air courtyard warmed by another large fireplace. There’s also access to two sandy beaches, outdoor sport courts and deeded parking for four vehicles courtesy of a $740 per month fee.

Homeowners enjoy access to a half basketball court on the premises.

Born in Canada, Ko is probably best known for co-hosting the award-winning Tiny Meat Gang podcast with longtime friend Noel Miller, while Los Angeles native Kreppel is a former preschool teacher who now vlogs about fashion, owns her own fashion and accessories line, and hosts the Circle Time podcast.

The pair—who collaborate on certain series like Couples Cringe—were wed earlier this year, and picked up a 1.8-acre Malibu estate for $7.7 million in April from Meg Haney—the Tennessee-born daughter of Chattanooga real estate billionaire Franklin Haney—who purchased the spread from Witherspoon and ex-husband Jim Toth for $6.7 million back in 2020. Ko and Kreppel also recently sold their architectural compound in Venice’s Silver Triangle for the exact asking price of $4.3 million.

The listing is held by Eric Haskell and Billy Rose of The Agency.
