California Love? Dr. Dre Is Selling His Beachfront Malibu Mansion for $20 Million

A beach house by Dre could now be yours.

After two decades, music mogul André Romelle Young (aka Dr. Dre) has decided to sell his luxurious Malibu estate. Located in the celebrity-studded enclave of Carbon Beach, the three-story residence was originally built in the early ‘90s, as reported by Dirt. The hip-hop legend snapped it up shortly after in 2000 for a modest $4.8 million. Today, Dre’s digs will set you back $20 million.

Fit for rap royalty, the contemporary Pacific Coast Highway abode is set behind a gated courtyard and comprises nearly 9,000 square feet of living space. You can expect dramatic soaring ceilings and walls of glass throughout. No matter what level you’re on, you’re guaranteed direct ocean views, too. On top of that, there are a number of beachside balconies that allow you to make the most of the legendary southern California weather.

Altogether, you’ll find six bedrooms and seven bathrooms, plus a gym, a sauna and an office. Of course, there’s also an in-house recording studio that has been graced by a certain rapper-turned-producer from Compton. Dre has won no less than six Grammys throughout his illustrious 40-year career, so the recording gear is sure to be top-notch.

Design-wise, the home has a flowing, open-plan layout and is flooded with natural light. The coastal color palette of soft, sandy neutrals is at once cozy and chic. So too are the furnishings. In the great room, a giant stone fireplace stretches all the way up to the ceiling and is one of the most striking features. Nearby, the kitchen has been decked out with top-of-the-line stainless steel appliances. The spacious primary suite, which takes up the entire third level, comes with its own fireplace, sitting area, walk-in closet and a terrace overlooking the ocean.

    Get your money right, gents.

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne’s Stylish LA Estate Hits the Market for $18 Million

After recently celebrating a milestone wedding anniversary, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne are calling it quits on their Hancock Park home after 7 years.

The former Black Sabbath frontman and his wife, host of The Talk UK, have just listed their 11,565-square-foot estate for $18 million in one of LA’s most affluent areas, according to the Los Angeles Times. The trophy property was built in 1929 by A.K. Kellogg. The historic home features six bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a movie theater and large swimming pool—sitting on over half an acre of land it’s the epitome of Old Hollywood glamour.

The swimming pool is covered in hand-laid mosaic tile

The Osbourne’s three-story dwelling is an ode to the rich history of the Hancock Park neighborhood, which dates back 100 years. The Spanish Colonial Revival-style mansion was meticulously restored to ensure that its architecture remained intact.

A wood-paneled library is one of the public rooms on the main level

From the inside, it boasts the most essential conveniences of modern life, with a velvet-lined screening room and grand chef’s kitchen, yet it remains stately in appearance. Arched doorways and wood-paneled built-ins speak to the age of the property while luxe furnishings and crystal chandeliers are in line with the family’s dramatic flair. A two-story foyer is among the manor’s most commanding elements.

A private screening room on the lower level is wrapped in red velvet

The one-time reality stars are said to have acquired the LA manor in 2015 from film producer Oren Koules. They paid $11.85 million for the home and if the current asking price is met, the Osbourne estate would be amongst the priciest properties ever sold in Hancock Park. Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Grey’s Anatomy, set a record earlier this year when her three-story mansion, previously owned by Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos, was purchased for $21 million. All of this leaves us wondering which prominent figure will be next to inhabit the Osbourne’s abode.
The listing is held by Hilton & Hyland’s Jonah Wilson and Josh Greer. Check out more photos of the home below.

Ad-Rock From The Beastie Boys Just Picked Up This $3.5 Million Pasadena Home

This quintessential midcentury modern house sits in one of Pasadena’s best neighborhood pockets, behind gates on a quiet side street. Designed by local architect Robert E. Bennett—a son of J. Cyril Bennett, architect of the Pasadena Civic Auditorium—it was built in 1960 as Bennett’s own personal home, and remained in the family for over 60 years. Earlier this month, the low-slung structure was sold for the very first time ever to Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz, best known as a member of iconic, pioneering hip-hop group Beastie Boys.

Because the house was never on the market, recent photos aren’t available. But tax records show Horovitz, 54, paid exactly $3.5 million for the roughly 3,500-square-foot structure, and dated photos from previous rental listings provide a glimpse inside.

A look inside the single-level home which boasts an indoor-outdoor design.

The older photos show the house received some rather unfortunate cosmetic upgrades over the past six decades, including a rather ’90s kitchen and some decidedly un-midcentury decor. But the home’s pristine bones always remained intact, with its very livable indoor/outdoor floorplan, and many other midcentury hallmarks remain—terrazzo and polished concrete floors, walls paneled in lustrous hardwood, and even a “hidden” bar in the living room.
All three of the bedrooms are located in their own wing of the single-level structure, screened off from a vast area that merges the living room, dining room and den into a single living area. A central fireplace has a stone mantle that runs floor-to-ceiling, and the home’s skylit entryway boasts a gorgeous atrium. The master bedroom overlooks the bedroom and boasts several closets and private bath, while the two guest bedrooms share a single full bathroom.

The retro kitchen accented with modern appliances.

But perhaps the property’s best features are outside, where a covered loggia shades an original conversation pit overlooking the sunken rectangular pool. The entire yard is landscaped simply, with drought-tolerant plantings, and around front lies an attached two-car garage.
Horovitz still owns another house in the neighboring city of South Pasadena, this one a Craftsman-style bungalow acquired in 2018 for $1.7 million. Presumably the New York native shares that place with his longtime wife, feminist activist Kathleen Hanna. The couple have also long owned a contemporary co-op loft in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, which was put up for sale in March at $3.1 million and is currently in contract to be sold. with And over the summer, they put their lakefront hideaway in semi-rural New Jersey up for grabs at $975,000; public listings say the funky spread is currently in escrow at an unknown price.
