By far Perry’s most talked-about real estate purchase is a 1930s Montecito estate that became the center of a long, very public legal battle between the singer and Carl Westcott, the founder of 1-800-Flowers. Westcott bought the home in May 2020 for $11.3 million and agreed just two months later to sell it to Perry for $15 million, beating out another interested buyer—Maria Shriver. Just days after signing the contract, though, Westcott tried to walk away, saying he’d been recovering from back surgery, was taking painkillers, and wasn’t in the right state of mind when he agreed to the sale.
Perry’s team disagreed, and what followed was a years-long showdown over whether the deal was binding. While the case worked its way through the courts, only $9 million of the sale price changed hands. Finally, in December 2023, a judge ruled that the contract was valid and that Westcott had been of sound mind. Perry and Orlando Bloom officially got the keys in May 2024.
The fight, however, didn’t end there. Perry then sought about $5 million in damages, claiming she’d lost significant rental income during the dispute and had to cover major repairs. Westcott’s team pushed back and even tried, unsuccessfully, to call Bloom and fellow actor Chris Pratt (who had leased the home for a period) to testify. In November 2025, the judge said Perry was owed only $1.84 million of the nearly $4.8 million she claimed, and, instead of a direct payout, that amount will simply be deducted from the $6 million she still owes Westcott, trimming the final balance to a little over $4.15 million. The ruling is expected to be finalized by the end of December 2025, closing the loop on a saga that began more than five years ago.
The property itself is impressive: a gated, nearly 9,300-square-foot compound in the Santa Ynez foothills with two guesthouses, a tennis court, a pool, and big mountain views. It’s believed to have undergone extensive renovations while the case dragged on, though details have stayed mostly private. What’s certain is that Perry now fully owns one of Montecito’s most contested estates, bringing one of California’s longest-running celebrity real estate battles to an end.
