A Famed Travel Writer Lists His Remote Island Retreat in Maine for $1.3 Million
Around 23 years ago, Paul Theroux picked up a private retreat off the coast of Maine. Now the Hawaii-based travel writer and prolific novelist of more than 50 books—among them The Mosquito Coast, which was adapted into a 1980s movie, as well as a more recent TV series starring his nephew Justin Theroux—has decided to part ways with his longtime Calf Island home, hoisting the place on the market for a relatively affordable $1.275 million.
Tucked away on a seven-acre parcel offering sweeping coastline views paired with more than 3,000 feet of waterfront footage on Wheeler Bay, the property features a post-and-beam main home and separate guesthouse that were handcrafted in the late 1970s by late contemporary artist and furniture-maker Duane Paluska. In addition to a combined four bedrooms and two baths in a little more than 1,700 square feet of living space, there are also pathways meandering through serene spruce-lined meadows, a mix of sand and pebble beaches, and a ramp leading down to a floating dock with a row boat.

Highlights of the primary dwelling include a window-lined living room displaying rustic hardwood floors and a vaulted wood-beam ceiling, along with a simple, “functional” kitchen that has an accompanying dining area warmed by a wood-burning stove. Per the listing, which is held by Joseph Sortwell of Christie’s International Real Estate, a large open room upstairs also has plenty of space for a bedroom and a living area.
Elsewhere is the wood-shingled guesthouse, which has two bedrooms, a bath, and an open living room sporting a loft and another wood-burning stove, plus its own porch. A small shed and boathouse also can be found on the premises.

“Being a coastal New Englander really shaped my life,” the 83-year-old Maine native once told National Geographic. “I would find it almost impossible to live in an inland city or town. I simply can’t do it. I need to live where there’s the smell of the sea, where there’s water.
“I also like the idea of forest next to a sea—like the Maine coast or the California or Oregon coasts,” Theroux added. “Where there’s sea and forest going up to the sea. That’s heaven to me.”

DC Studios Chief James Gunn Snags Mia Farrow’s Bel Air Family Home for $8.5 Million
Over eight decades ago, this historic Monterey Colonial-style house in the coveted Lower Bel Air enclave of Los Angeles was owned by John Farrow and Maureen O’Sullivan—he an Oscar-winning film director from Australia and she an Irish-born actress who starred as Jane Parker in numerous Tarzan films, and both the parents of Mia Farrow, who is best known for her role in the 1968 horror film Rosemary’s Baby and as Woody Allen’s former partner. It was also occupied at one time by film and TV composer Bruce Broughton. Now the property has changed hands once again, this time selling to a trust connected to veteran filmmaker and entertainment executive James Gunn.
Records reveal the Guardians of the Galaxy director and co-CEO of DC Studios doled out $8.5 million for the creamy stucco and terracotta-roof structure, which was originally listed for a speck under $11 million. Crafted in 1937 by architect Arlos R. Sedgley and known as Greystoke Cottage, the recently renovated home rests on over a half-acre of land and sports four bedrooms and five baths spread across nearly 4,300 square feet of John Cottrell-designed living space on two levels.
The dining room boasts rustic hardwood floors and a vintage chandelier.

Main-level highlights include formal living and dining rooms, plus an updated kitchen outfitted with a center island, high-end stainless appliances, and a cozy fireside breakfast nook. There’s also a wood-paneled library and a media room that has French doors opening to a Juliet balcony, as well as a primary suite with a fireplace, a wraparound balcony, dual walk-in closets, and a spa-like bath spotlighted by a soaking tub.
The downstairs portion of the home holds three additional bedrooms, including one that could easily be converted into an office space. The amenities continue outdoors, where the Tichenor & Thorpe-landscaped grounds host a covered veranda that has steps leading down to a lower terrace ideal for al fresco lounging and entertaining, along with a pool surrounded by a sundeck and pathways meandering through lush gardens. A two-car garage also can be found on the premises.

Roy Lichtenstein’s Longtime Home in the Hamptons Pops Up for Sale at $20 Million
Roy Lichtenstein’s paintings are some of the most expensive pieces of pop art out there, commanding seven, eight, and nine-figure sums on the auction block. Now you can own the late icon’s former home too for a cool $20 million.
The acclaimed artist’s shingle-style Southampton retreat has recently hit the market, nearly three decades after his death at the age of 73. Lichtenstein’s wife Dorothy remained at the property in the years since but passed away in July, which is why it’s now up for sale. Per the listing, the couple bought the historic carriage house in 1970, which was once part of the Meadow Beach estate, which sprawled over about 10 acres and was owned by financier Henry M. Day. Originally built in 1897, the Gin Lane mansion now sits on just shy of two acres that’s just a short stroll to the beach.

“We came for several summers, and one fall just didn’t leave,” Lichtenstein once said of the property, according to Curbed. During the painter’s time here, he made several modifications, including expanding the home’s footprint. Today, the charming abode features five bedrooms and six full bathrooms across its 5,825 square feet.

Surrounded by mature cypress, umbrella pine, and cryptomeria trees, the three-floor residence is tucked behind an entry gate. The spread is chock full of windows and glass doors that spill onto tons of terraces, decks, and balconies to create a relaxed indoor-outdoor experience. Even better, the deed includes a private path down to the beach.
“Many of these outdoor spaces offer ocean views, while all provide the chance to enjoy the sound of the surf and the fresh sea breeze,” notes the listing, which is being held by Harald Grant and Bruce Grant of Sotheby’s International Realty—Southampton Brokerage.

Internally, the abode has held onto a lot of its original character. You’ll find a plethora of period architectural elements like wainscotting, built-in bookshelves, and millwork. Elsewhere, the pad is kitted out with French doors, a stately library with a fireplace, and a sun-filled dining room. There’s also a spacious and updated chef’s kitchen with stone tile floors, and a primary bedroom with an ensuite bath and private terrace.
Another home the Lichtensteins owned in Southampton sold earlier this year in April for $3.4 million, $1 million less than its asking price. Located at 65 Wooley Street, the couple purchased the house alongside artist Paul Waldman and his wife Diane, the former Guggenheim Museum deputy director.

For the past four years, Brett Mahoney has lived in a Los Angeles residence he purchased for $4.75 million from former married Tinseltown stars Chris Pratt and Anna Farris. Now the Powerbook II: Ghost, Empire, and CSI: Miami producer is flipping his Hollywood Hills estate in the Nichols Canyon enclave back up for sale with a nearly $2.8 million jump in price, asking a smidge under $8 million. The listing is held by Billy Rose and Natasha Sizlo of The Agency.

Ralph Lauren Opened Fashion Week at This $15.3 Million Equestrian Compound in the Hamptons
Ralph Lauren could’ve gone just about anywhere to present his spring 2025 collection during New York Fashion Week, but the fashion designer opted for an enclave he knows well—the Hamptons.
Last week, Khalily Stables, a sprawling equestrian compound in Bridgehampton, served as the catwalk for Lauren’s latest designs, and now the 19-acre farm has been hoisted onto the market for a cool $15.25 million. Formerly known as Campbell Stables, the palatial property at 6 West Pond Drive was originally listed in 2017 for a whopping $40 million, nearly three times the amount of the current asking price. It was later snapped up in 2021 at a steeply discounted $14 million, The New York Post reported.
The grounds comprise 15 grass paddocks and two state-of-the-art barns with a total of 27 stalls.

Behind its entrance gates and tree-lined drive, the stately spread encompasses two barns with a total of 27 horse stalls, 15 grass paddocks, two riding arenas, a pair of grand-prix grass riding fields, and one large indoor arena with a viewing area. The main barn features 18 stalls, while the smaller holds the other nine. Also included is a one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment with a fully equipped chef’s kitchen, in addition to a two-bedroom, one-bath home and on-site office for staff.
The comfortably appointed compound includes an office and residences for staff.

“I’m proud to have helped bring together an iconic brand with a world-class equestrian stable for such an extraordinary event in the Hamptons,” Corcoran broker Rolanda Blue Doolan told The Post.
The Ralph Lauren show, which kicked off New York Fashion Week last Thursday, was a star-studded affair attended by some 250 celebrity guests. Everyone from Big Little Lies star Laura Dern to Naomi Watts, Usher, Jude Law, Coleman Domingo, and Anna Wintour was there while supermodels including Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington-Burns rocked the runway clad in Lauren’s classic and quintessentially American designs.
The 19-acre horse farm includes a couple of modest residences for caretakers and staff.

The grounds, however, played a bigger role than just a backdrop for the presentation—which showcased looks from the Ralph Lauren Collection, Purple Label, and Polo Ralph Lauren. The verdant fields of Khalily Stables also set the stage for Lauren’s personal vintage car collection and even hosted an immersive pop-up satellite of the famous Polo Bar in Midtown Manhattan for the after-party. (Yes, Lauren, who owns a home in Montauk, went as far as to recreate the restaurant and even brought along the eatery’s maître d’ Nelly Moudime to handle the A-list guests with kid gloves.)
While scenes like this aren’t par for the course, the high-profile fashion extravaganza—and its bucolic venue—will surely go down in history.

Bethenny Frankel’s Longtime Home in the Hamptons Is Hitting the Market for $6 Million
Now that Bethenny Frankel has settled into a $5.4 million summer home on New York’s Shinnecock Bay—where she’s been seen toodling around town with her daughter Bryn in a vintage Bronco and is just steps away from easily indulging in her beloved pastime of paddleboarding via a private beach—The Real Housewives of New York City alum and Skinnygirl Cocktails mogul has no need for her other Hamptons residence.
