Comedian Daniel Tosh Is Seeking $12 Million for His Waterside Compound in Lake Tahoe

Looks like Daniel Tosh is bidding adieu to his swank High Sierra lifestyle. Now up for grabs at a dash under $12 million is the stand-up comedian’s sprawling waterfront estate, which is tucked away between Sunnyside and Tahoe City on the west shore of Lake Tahoe. Kristina Bergstrand of Compass holds the listing.

Records show the former host of the Comedy Central show Tosh.O—he currently hosts a podcast—paid around $7 million for the multi-structure spread back in 2018, when he was seeking a place to unwind with his wife Carly and their two children between grueling cross-country gigs. “Holidays at the lake are the only times I’m not stressed,” Tosh said in a statement. “My in-laws love to visit so having multiple, separate cabins ensured I could maintain my Tahoe tranquility.”

The four-bedroom, three-bath main upper house was built in 2008.

Set on a double lot spanning a total of 1.6 acres, the property offers three distinct dwellings introduced by a main residence crafted in 2008 by architect Gary Mckelvey and custom builder Doug Drake. A funicular and a staircase travel down the sloping backyard past two guesthouses before arriving at the estate’s 93 feet of shoreline.

A paver-clad driveway secured by rustic wood gates leads to a spacious motor court. Garage bays for up to four vehicles flank the portico entry to the four-bedroom, three-bath main house, which is dressed with dark wood shingles, stone accents, red-trimmed dormer windows, and a high-pitched gable roof. Inside, three levels of interiors by the Truckee-based firm High Camp Home are serviced by an elevator and slathered throughout with wood culled from one of the last water-powered mills in Northern California, per the listing.

All the expected amenities are in play within the primary home: a vaulted great room flaunting a massive rock fireplace, a dining area, and a gourmet kitchen outfitted with tritone cabinetry, a huge apron-front sink, and top-of-the-line stainless appliances. Floor-to-ceiling walls of glass drink in mesmerizing views of the water, while an entertainment level packs in a game room and a commercial-grade ice cream machine.

A funicular travels from the main home past a guesthouse and down to a lakeside cabin.

Two circa-1900s guesthouses have been updated and sit amid pine-laced grounds hosting a hot tub, a fire pit, a bocce court, a barbecue and picnic area, and a series of private ski runs—one green rated, two blue, and a black diamond, plus a chairlift in the form of the funicular. The larger three-bedroom, three-bath middle house has knotty pine paneling, a stone fireplace, and a sky-lit kitchen, while a charming boat storage shed-turned-studio bungalow sports a sleeping loft, a retro kitchenette, and a lakeside deck.

“The former boat equipment storage shed is now Meema’s cabin and is to die for,” said Bergstrand. “I could live there forever. The French doors that open to the lake, being right on the beach, smell of fresh pine in the air. It feels like summer camp but with all the modern amenities.”
