Beyoncé and Jay-Z don’t collect real estate willy-nilly the way some billionaires do. They curate. And what their portfolio lacks in quantity is more than made up for in ultra-prime locations, jaw-dropping price tags, and architectural significance. Case in point: their record-breaking 2023 purchase of Malibu mansion, which was the most expensive home sale in the state of California at the time.
The acquisition of ever-more-expensive homes by the Carters—née Beyoncé Giselle Knowles and Shawn Corey Carter—follows the trajectory of their stratospheric careers. Beyoncé spent 2024 juggling her country album Cowboy Carter (which she’s currently on tour for) and a return to the Lion King universe in Mufasa, this time alongside daughter Blue Ivy. Jay-Z hasn’t released new music since 2018’s Everything Is Love but still manages to dominate headlines—his entertainment juggernaut Roc Nation brought Kendrick Lamar to the Apple Music 2025 Super Bowl halftime show.
Their other business interests are just as headline-grabbing. The Empire State of Mind rapper launched the streaming service Tidal in 2015, buying a little-known Norwegian platform for $56.5 million and rebranding it into an “artist-first” platform alongside Beyoncé. He also owns the 40/40 Club sports bar chain and has a stake in the luxury champagne brand Armand de Brignac, which was valued at around $640 million in a 2021 deal with LVMH. The Crazy in Love singer, meanwhile, helms her own powerhouse entertainment company, Parkwood.
Before they started buying homes in earnest in 2017, the couple was known for renting over-the-top estates, including a $400,000-a-month crash pad in Malibu and a 12-acre spread in the Hamptons known as the Sandcastle. Today, Bey and Jay are together worth around $3 billion, more than $300 million of which includes a coast-to-coast collection of trophy homes. Here’s a look at the power couple’s residential holdings today.
New Orleans Outpost
Image Credit: Education Images/Universal Images Group via Getty Images Though ownership has never been publicly confirmed, a towering Spanish Baroque mansion in New Orleans’ Garden District has long been rumored to belong to Beyoncé and Jay-Z—or possibly her sister, Solange. What is known: in April 2015, an LLC tied to Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment purchased the former church-turned-residence on Harmony Street for $2.6 million. This acquisition came shortly after the release of Beyoncé’s self-titled visual album in December 2013. At the time, Jay-Z was riding the success of his 2013 album Magna Carta Holy Grail.
Originally built in 1925 for Westminster Presbyterian Church, the 13,000-square-foot building later housed the Ballet Hysell School before being converted into a private home. Now known as La Casa de Castille, the three-story abode features seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms, plus three one-bedroom apartments with separate entrances on the ground floor. The capacious main space—once the sanctuary—boasts 26-foot ceilings, hardwood floors, and floor-to-ceiling columns. The nearby kitchen includes a Viking range and movable walls that transform the space for entertaining.
The property sits on a corner lot just half a block from St. Charles Avenue and includes historic touches like antique tubs, arched windows, and a floating staircase. Though the home was briefly listed in 2021 for $4.45 million following a suspected arson incident, it ultimately didn’t sell. Whether or not the Carters ever lived here, the mansion remains one of the most storied properties in their rumored portfolio.
Meanwhile, Solange, through the Noble Jones Trust, owns multiple New Orleans properties, including a St. Ann Street residence and a church property on Camp Street. The 2017 Grammy winner bought the Camp Street place in 2018 for $850,000 as headquarters for her creative studio, Saint Heron. This move came shortly after the release of her critically acclaimed 2016 album, A Seat at the Table. Solange sold the property in 2024 for a speck under $1 million amid reported noise complaints.
New York City Penthouse

The seventh-floor loft is located within a converted 1929 warehouse converted to a 27-unit boutique pre-war building known for its industrial-chic character—think 12-foot ceilings, oversized casement windows, and exposed concrete columns. Details of the couple’s specific unit remain private, but its significance in the couple’s life is well known: this is where Beyoncé and Jay-Z were married in a 2008 ceremony with just 40 guests and 70,000 orchids flown in from Thailand, People reported.
The building has drawn plenty of celebrity attention over the years, with residents including Bethenny Frankel and, more recently, Hailey and Justin Bieber.
Hamptons Home
Image Credit: Google Earth Just two months after welcoming twins Rumi and Sir, Beyoncé and Jay-Z added some serious East Coast coastal elegance to their portfolio with the August 2017 purchase of the Pond House—a stately $26 million estate overlooking Georgica Pond in East Hampton. Designed by legendary architect Stanford White, the 12,000-square-foot home presides over nearly two acres with seven bedrooms, seven and a half bathrooms, and more than 200 feet of water frontage.
Originally listed for nearly $40 million, a thoughtful design tweak by the previous owner rotated the house 90 degrees, allowing the main living room to take in both sunrises and sunsets across the water, noted marketing materials at the time. The home showcases classic architectural details like parquet de Versailles floors, hand-carved heated marble bathtubs, and 18th-century French fireplaces. An 1,800-square-foot guesthouse, a 45-foot infinity pool, and proximity to a 17-acre preserve round out the secluded retreat.
Bel Air Estate
Image Credit: Google Earth After a years-long search and right about the same time they scooped up a home in the Hamptons, Beyoncé and Jay-Z purchased what’s become their primary residence, an $88 million modern compound in a particularly plum section of L.A.’s Bel Air neighborhood. And boy is it a doozy. The acquisition came on the heels of a transformative period for the couple: Jay-Z’s 4:44 had dropped just a few months earlier, while Beyoncé’s Lemonade was released in April 2016.
Designed by local architect Paul McClean and developed by Dean McKillen, the son of Irish property magnate Paddy McKillen, the 30,000-square-foot ultra-modern estate spans six sleek structures with eight bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, and more than 10,000 square feet of outdoor living space. A sculptural spiral staircase carved from a single piece of wood anchors the minimalist interiors.
Built on a $15 million lot and completed just before the Carters’ purchase, the home is packed with a laundry list of high-end amenities: a spa and wellness center, media room, basketball court, four outdoor pools, and a 15-car garage. All windows and pocketing glass walls are bulletproof, and there are dedicated living quarters for security and other staff—fitting for one of the world’s most high-profile couples.
Malibu Mansion
Image Credit: Google Earth In May 2023, the couple shattered California real estate records with their $190 million purchase of a sprawling minimalist mansion on an eight-acre bluff above Malibu’s exclusive Paradise Cove, eclipsing the venture capitalist Marc Andreessen’s $177 million Malibu buy in 2021. The singular residence was originally commissioned by prolific art collectors William and Maria Bell and took more than 15 years to complete. It was quietly shopped off-market for $295 million before the Carters came along.
The 40,000-square-foot concrete compound, more sculpture than traditional home, was designed by Tadao Ando, the same starchitect behind Kanye West’s former brutalist bachelor pad, which was recently scooped up by developer Andrew Mazzella. The museum-like home features Ando’s signature blend of raw concrete, glass, and light, with vast floor-to-ceiling windows and serene infinity pools, along with private beach access and sweeping Pacific Ocean views. The main residence includes seven bedrooms and multiple indoor-outdoor living spaces that blur the line between structure and landscape.
