Irish Comedian Graham Norton Just Listed His N.Y.C. Pied-à-Terre for $5.6 Million

Irish comedian Graham Norton, the host of an eponymous, long-running talk show in the U.K., spends most of his time across the pond, but for the past 20 years he’s also kept a New York City crash pad, which he’s now spinning on the market for $5.6 million.

The Murray Hill carriage house is situated within Sniffen Court, a private gated mews in Manhattan’s Murray Hill neighborhood. Encompassing just 10 residences, the homes were originally built in 1863 and 1864 as horse stables. At the turn of the 20th century, they were converted into single-family townhouses. Notable former residents of Sniffen Court include Lenny Kravitz and the composer Cole Porter and others, while Norton snapped up his boldly dressed pied-à-terre from the German model Claudia Schiffer. Chris Kann at Corcoran holds the listing.

The walls and ceiling of the dining room are coated in glossy vermillion lacquer.

Tax records indicate Norton purchased the property back in 2002; the property is currently co-owned with his husband, Scottish filmmaker Jono McLeod. The pair recently completed a full renovation and refresh led by Gachot Studios, with the goal being to showcase Norton’s art collection and to amp up the color palette, which is readily apparent. The great room, with soaring 15-foot ceilings, is centered around a lilac stone fireplace; the cozy dining room is swathed in an eye-popping bright orange; and the kitchen, with its stainless-steel countertops and custom cabinetry, is done up in a mossy green.

The second-floor guest bedroom is accompanied by a contemporary marble bathroom, and the third floor is taken up by the primary suite, which encompasses a sizable dark-blue bedroom plus a separate sitting room/office with windows overlooking the mews. The primary bathroom includes both a tub and a shower, and there’s even a tucked-away kitchenette/morning bar with a little windowed banquette.

Colors in the primary bedroom and adjoining are dark and muted.

The home is topped by a rooftop deck with room for alfresco dining. Perimeter hedges add a touch of privacy, while potted landscaping adds charm. If the weather’s not cooperating for an outdoor hang, not to worry—a clerestory window spanning the length of the house’s 20-foot width imbues the great room with an openness that’s the next best thing.

Sniffen Court has been recognized on the National Register of Historic Places since 1973, making Norton’s refurbished Romanesque Revival residence a true diamond in the Big Apple’s rough.
