Formula 1’s Jenson Button Puts Colorful Rental Villa up for Sale in Palm Springs

Seeking a potential income opportunity—specifically a 1930s Spanish-style rental property that’s been revamped in keeping with the iconic style of The Beverly Hills Hotel and Jayne Mansfield’s “Pink Palace,” plus a little bit of Barbie DreamHouse thrown in for good measure? Look no further! A vacation villa owned by former Formula 1 champ Jenson Button and his wife Brittny has just popped up for sale in the California desert city of Palm Springs, at the base of the San Jacinto Mountains, asking $2.1 million.

Per records, the U.K.-born racer and his interior designer wife Brittny purchased the place in fall 2021 for $1.7 million from filmmaker and screenwriter Josh Evans, son of actress Ali McGraw and the late movie producer Robert Evans. They subsequently reworked the premises for use as “The Mesa Bungalows,” with rates currently starting at $900 per night via Natural Retreats.

A neon sign out front welcomes guests to the four-bedroom rental villa.

    Natural Retreats

Built way back in 1937, the two-story structure offers four en-suite bedrooms with their own separate entrances and five baths in 2,200 square feet of retro-inspired living space adorned throughout with varying shades of pink and green accents. There also are palm-laced grounds sporting a kidney-shaped pool and spa, white iron gazebo and tiered water fountain.

Other highlights include a kitchen outfitted with a mint-green gas stove, an eat-in island and a butler’s pantry, along with an adjoining dining area that connects to a living room spotlighted by a vaulted wood-beam ceiling and floor-to-ceiling fireplace; and elsewhere is a primary bedroom boasting a bath equipped with dual vanities, a freestanding soaking tub and large glass-encased shower, as well as a guest bedroom with access to a sundeck.

The kitchen is decked out with a mint-green gas stove and pink refrigerator.

    Natural Retreats

A couple of additional guest bedrooms spill out to resort-like grounds spanning over a third of an acre, and hosting the aforementioned pool and spa flaunting a cascading waterfall. There’s also an upper-level patio, which is ideal for al fresco lounging and entertaining with a pergola holding a kitchen and barbecue setup, an inviting fireplace and a custom wood daybed shaded by colorful metal palm leaves.

An upper-level patio is the ideal spot for relaxing with a frond-covered day bed and cozy fireplace.

After having one of the most successful careers in Formula 1 history—earning 15 wins, 50 podium finishes and a 2009 World Championship—and then taking a turn at the Super GT series, Jenson Button returned to the Nascar driver’s seat over the summer after taking a sabbatical. He also recently joined with actor Keanu Reeves to release the documentary The Impossible Formula 1 Story, which is now airing on Disney+.

In addition to their Palm Springs home, the Buttons also maintain a primary residence in Calabasas. Earlier this year, the couple offloaded a Spanish Colonial-style getaway in the historic El Mirador neighborhood of Palm Springs for $2.1 million; and in 2022, the pair netted a total of $9.3 million on two properties they sold in Palm Springs and Santa Monica.

Listed by Joseph Babineaux of Windermere Real Estate Desert Properties, the turnkey property is being marketed as a short-term vacation rental investment opportunity or private desert getaway.

Bob Dylan’s Grandson Buys a Hollywood Hills Retreat for $3 Million

Last year, Bob Dylan sold the rights to his entire back catalogue of music in a landmark deal worth “north of $200 million,” according to multiple reports. So it’s not entirely surprising that the entire Dylan clan is now flush with cash, or at least flusher than before—and that includes Pablo Dylan, the 27-year-old aspiring rapper-turned-folk-rocker son of Bob Dylan’s son Jesse and actress Susan Traylor. A few weeks ago, Pablo paid nearly $3 million for a house in a particularly star-stocked part of the Hollywood Hills.

Perched high above street level and privately shielded from view behind giant bougainvillea plants and a big driveway gate, the single-story Spanish hacienda was built in 1950 but recently underwent a renovation. Arguably the standout is the skylit kitchen, which was fully remodeled and now sports high-end Sub-Zero and Viking appliances, plus a built-in wine cooler and custom cabinetry. Tile or hardwood floors flow throughout much of the rest of the 2,600-square-foot residence, including into the large living room and a casual breakfast area with French doors opening to the garden.

Dylan won a bidding war for the remodeled 1950s house, paying $250,000 over the seller’s asking price.

The main house offers just two bedrooms, though both are spacious and well-equipped with walk-in closets and ensuite bathrooms. But the listing notes that the home’s fireplace-equipped office could function as a third bedroom, and there’s an additional bedroom and bathroom in the detached guesthouse, which was likely once a garage. As it stands now, the property does not appear to have covered car parking, but the gated motorcourt is large enough for two or three cars and there is street parking available in the neighborhood.

Outside, the quarter-acre property’s grounds are undeniably lovely, with flowers and a grassy lawn surrounding a saltwater swimming pool. While there is no city lights view available here, the place is commendably private and outfitted for entertaining, complete with a barbecue center and multiple terraces for al fresco dining or lounging. Tall trees shade much of the property from the occasionally oppressive SoCal sunshine.

Like many homes in this particular neighborhood, Dylan’s new digs have a bit of celebrity history. From 2012-2015, according to records, the house was owned by “The O.C.” actor Ben McKenzie. Other nearby current homeowners include actors Will McCormack and Kim Raver. As for Dylan himself, he’s not new to the Hollywood Hills; he grew up at his father’s longtime estate in the woodsy Laurel Canyon enclave. More

An Heir to the Anheuser-Busch Dynasty Has Put a $4.5 Million Price Tag on His Oceanview Malibu Home

On the celebratory heels of welcoming twins, outdoorsy Anheuser-Busch heir Billy Busch Jr., who oversees the hunting and outdoor gear concern Geist, and his professional surfer wife, Kirra (Seale) Busch, have hoisted their fashionably updated 1960s home in Malibu on the market at $4.45 million.

Technically, the property was acquired in August of 2020 for not quite $2.7 million by a family trust controlled by Busch Jr.’s father, William K. Busch, aka Billy Busch Sr. Both Junior and Senior Busches starred in the 2020 MTV reality series The Busch Family Brewed.

Discreetly set below the street on a downward sloping, quarter-acre parcel with a sweeping, over-the-treetops view of the Pacific Ocean, the flat-roofed residence was built in 1962 in the foothills above County Line Beach at the border between Los Angeles and Ventura counties. The single-story home has recently undergone a sleek transformation to include high-end finishes, wide-plank honey-toned oak floors, and dark-framed windows.

Dark-framed glass sliders in the dining area frame sweeping views of the ocean.

    Alexis Adam

Beyond the gated courtyard entrance and the smooth stucco exterior, the front door opens directly into the 1,909-square-foot home’s open-plan great room. At one end of the angled space, huge glass sliders connect the living room to the terraced backyard and swimming pool. At the opposite end, a dining area with a built-in dining banquette has glass sliders to an ocean view deck.

In between the living and dining areas is a huge kitchen centered around a long work island with an integrated snack bar and a marble countertop that waterfalls off the ends. A full-height bank of black-lacquered cabinets holds an induction range, double ovens, and the fridge, while a row of windows alongside the sink opens accordion style to an alfresco serving bar for outdoor dining and entertaining.

Among the three bedrooms and two baths is the primary suite, where two walls of glass sliders open the sunny bedroom to a wraparound deck and the swimming pool. There’s also a fitted walk-in closet and a spacious bathroom.

Lush plantings envelope and privatize the terraced backyard.

    Alexis Adam

Outside, dark decking bordered by plumes of flowering shrubbery meanders along the backside of the house, while a small container pool includes a window for checking out the view of the ocean while swimming underwater. A long stairway leads down the terraced slope from the house to a courtyard patio with a fire pit.

Being at the far western end of Malibu, the house is about 30 miles and, on a good day, a solid 45-minute drive to the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. However, it’s a much shorter distance to Nobu Malibu and an even lesser distance to the Trancas Country Mart. Perhaps best yet, it’s just up the hill from some of Malibu’s best surfing spots as well as Neptune’s Net, the 1950s gas station turned legendary seafood restaurant that’s been featured in countless films and TV shows, including the 1983 Tom Cruise film Losin’ It and Vanderpump Rules (it’s where Jax Taylor proposed to Brittany Cartwright during season seven of the wildly popular reality series).

The listing is held by Sean Matthews at Compass.

A Former Hollywood Filmmaker Just Relisted His Custom Hawaii Getaway

Almost a year after it first hit the market with a $24 million price tag, a just-like-new residence near Hanalei Bay, on the sought-after North Shore of the Hawaii island of Kauai, has popped up for sale again. But you’ll still need a substantial chunk of change to pick up the custom-built bungalow, which is now listed for $18 million.

Scott Sloan—who previously owned a Los Angeles film production company, and is most known for the independent features Dog Gone Love, Steaming Milk, and Jack and Jill vs. the World—and his wife Brittany, acquired a three-quarter-acre property for $2.8 million some 10 years ago. The Santa Barbara-based couple then subdivided the lot, renovated and sold an existing structure known as the “Bounty House” for $3.5 million in 2018, and enlisted California architect Kevin A. Clark to craft a new four-bedroom, five-bath vacation house for them on the remaining half-acre of land.

The home’s gracious outdoor space is highlighted by custom Ipe-wood decks and railings.

    Travis Rowan Photography

Completed in October 2022, the board-and-batten and corrugated copper-roof structure is nestled amid a double corner lot, just steps from world-class surf breaks, beaches, hiking trails, and the shops and restaurants of Hanalei Town. Tucked away behind automated tropical hardwood gates and a lava rock wall, the stylish abode has a little more than 3,700 square feet boasting wide-plank oak floors, high ceilings, wood-paneled walls and loads of built-ins throughout, plus Lutron lighting, audio-visual, solar and Tesla Powerwall systems. There’s also more than 1,000 square feet of outdoor space adorned with Ipe-wood decks and railings.

Especially standing out is an open-concept great room featuring a soaring living room with an integrated entertainment center and sliding glass doors spilling outside. A dining area with a built-in banquette connects to the kitchen, which is outfitted with custom cabinetry, white marble countertops, an expansive eat-in island, and high-end Miele, Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances.

The living room rests beneath a vaulted ceiling and has sliding glass doors leading outside.

    Travis Rowan Photography

Elsewhere is a primary bedroom suite displaying a sitting area and walk-in closet, as well as a spa-inspired bath flaunting dual vanities, a huge granite soaking tub and access to an open-air rainfall shower for two people. Topping it all off are lush professionally landscaped grounds overlooking picturesque mountain vistas, and hosting a custom “spool” with an electric cover and wraparound lanai sporting a built-in Kalamazoo grill, along with an attached single-car garage.

Sold fully furnished, complete with indoor/outdoor artwork, the turnkey home is being offered by Neal Norman of Hawaii Life.

‘Fargo,’ ‘Ted Lasso’ Star Juno Temple Scores a Gated Hollywood Hills Compound for $2.8 Million

English actress and indie film darling Juno Temple has certainly come a long way since she appeared as a teenager in minor supporting roles in 2006’s Notes on a Scandal, a British drama starring Judi Dench and , and in the 2007 hit Atonement, starring James McAvoy and Keira Knightley. Fifteen-plus years and dozens of films later, the 34-year-old is now a bonafide Hollywood celebrity, with a prominent starring turn on the recently-premiered fifth season of FX’s Fargo.

It was Temple’s Ted Lasso role that arguably served as her mainstream breakthrough, but she’s been on the fringes of big stardom for years. And after several years of , in her own words, Temple has bought a Los Angeles home to serve as her stateside base.

Tucked away in a semi-remote pocket of the Hollywood Hills, the Mediterranean-flavored house was built in 1995 but recently underwent a contemporary renovation. Temple paid about $2.8 million for the keys, roughly $80,000 more than the seller’s asking price, an indication that she faced some competition for the property.

The 3,600-square-foot house has four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms.

    Google Earth

The listing notes that the house offers “a level of privacy that is hard to find.” Fully gated and tucked into the very back of a steep canyon, at the end of a little-known cul-de-sac, the roughly 6,000-square-foot lot is smallish but ideal for a celebrity, cloistered behind big trees and tall hedges. The property also offers an unusual amount of parking for the tightly-packed Hollywood Hills, with a three-car garage and long driveway with space for four additional cars.

In addition to the garage, the three-story home’s lowest level contains a guest bedroom suite ideal for use as maid’s quarters and a bonus room that could be a wine cellar or a meditation area, per the listing. Upstairs, the main floor features generously scaled living spaces, including a high-ceilinged living room with a fireplace, a kitchen with premium appliances and French doors leading to an outdoor living area with an AstroTurf lawn.

On the home’s top floor are the remaining three bedrooms; the spacious primary suite overlooks the outdoor plunge pool and offers a walk-in closet, plus a bathroom with its own linen closet and a jacuzzi tub. The remaining two bedrooms share a large bathroom, and both flaunt treetop views of the neighborhood.

Because the property backs up to a large nature preserve, the backyard feels much larger than its stats suggest. Per the listing, a semi-private pathway adjacent to the lot leads to acres of wildflowers and abundant hiking trails, perfect for a nature lover. More

Rupert Murdoch’s Nephew Is Selling a Cliff May-Designed Equestrian Spread for $21 Million

After nearly 14 years of ownership, Los Angeles-based businessman David Calvert-Jones has decided to part ways with his longtime residence in the horse-friendly Sullivan Canyon community, on the border of Brentwood and Pacific Palisades. The Australian-born nephew of billionaire media mogul Rupert Murdoch together with his wife Karina are asking a speck under $21.5 million for their revamped spread, which the couple acquired for just over $4 million.

Before that, the home was owned for almost five decades by Hollywood actress and activist Maxine Cooper, who is best known for her role as private detective Mike Hammer’s secretary Velda in the 1955 film noir classic Kiss Me Deadly, as well as appearances in the TV shows Dragnet, Perry Mason and The Twilight Zone. She and her Oscar-nominated producer and screenwriter husband Sy Gomberg purchased the place for a mere $122,500 back in the mid-’60s.

The Cliff May-designed home is fronted by a cobblestone motorcourt flanked by an attached three-car garage.

    Tyler Hogan

Originally built and designed in the early ’40s by noted architect Cliff May, the equestrian property underwent an extensive renovation and expansion during the Calvert-Joneses tenure, and includes a five-bedroom, five-bath house featuring a little more than 6,200 square feet of split-level living space adorned throughout with a mix of stone and rustic hardwood floors, vaulted wood-beam ceilings, ample built-ins, and steel-framed windows and doors framing picturesque views of the garden-laced grounds.

Hidden away on a leafy cul-de-sac parcel spanning nearly two-thirds of an acre, within the Riviera Ranch enclave that May developed, the creamy stucco, stone and terra-cotta-roof structure is known as “Paradise Found,” and secluded behind walls and a gated driveway lined with mature olive trees. Once inside via an attractive hand-carved wood door, a fireside living room doubles as a screening room and a formal dining room rests beyond a decoratively trimmed entrance with pocketing wood doors.

Eye-catching walls and an antler chandelier are part of the breakfast room’s unique charm.

    Tyler Hogan

A glass-lined breakfast room topped by an antler chandelier connects to the gourmet kitchen, which is outfitted with an expansive eat-in island, a pantry and high-end stainless appliances, and other highlights include a family room and private office space. There’s also an inviting primary bedroom suite sporting a sitting area nestled beside a cozy fireplace, two sets of French doors leading outside, a walk-in closet, and spa-like bath equipped with dual vanities, a built-in soaking tub and separate shower.

In addition to a large detached guesthouse and horse stable, the exterior amenities also consist of a central courtyard hosting a lengthy swimming pool flanked by an open-air cabana warmed by a fireplace, several al fresco lounging and entertaining spots, and a spacious motorcourt flanked by an attached three-car garage.

Set on nearly two-thirds of an acre, the property includes a structure where you can keep your horses.

A Sleek L.A. Spec Mansion on Storied Hollywood Ground Lists for $45 Million

Over in a particularly prime pocket of Los Angeles, on a hallowed parcel once home to legendary Hollywood actress Claudette Colbert, a newly built spec mansion has just popped up on the market. The asking price is a hefty $45 million, or a about $37 million more than the Holmby Hills spread last sold to a development group for almost four years ago, back in March 2019.

Completed this year, the grand house rests on property that has a celebrity pedigree dating back to the 1930s. That’s when Colbert commissioned Frank Lloyd Wright’s son Lloyd Wright to build her a striking Colonial-style mansion on a 4-acre hilltop estate surrounded by picturesque gardens, where the It Happened One Night star lived until the ’60s with her husband Dr. Joel Pressman, head of UCLA’s Neck & Hand Surgery Department.

A vintage souvenir postcard published circa-1941 from the “Homes of Movie Stars in California” series shows a view of Claudette Colbert’s Holmby Hills mansion.

    Nextrecord Archives/Getty Images

Later owned by retired Northrop Grunman chairman and CEO Kent Kresa, and subsequently occupied by businessman Juan Villalonga, the house sold in 2014 for $7.3 million to a real estate developer who razed Colbert’s home and subdivided the surrounding land into smaller lots. An original piece of the property was next snapped up in 2019 for around $7.6 million by Kohen Development Group, who went on to design and construct a sleek architectural-style home boasting six bedrooms and 12 baths filtered across a little more than 17,600 square feet of three-level living space.

Tucked away behind a gated driveway and high hedges, on nearly three-quarters of an acre near the prestigious Harvard-Westlake Middle School campus, the contemporary showpiece is centered around a mature olive tree that’s encased by glass walls and sits amid a water feature on the basement level.

A dining area with a floor-to-ceiling wine display connects to a glass-lined living room overlooking the grounds.

    Christopher Amitrano/CS8 Photo

Other highlights include a living room flaunting a soaring two-way fireplace clad in stone and dining area sporting a glass-encased wine display, along with a family room that adjoins a gourmet kitchen outfitted with top-tier Miele and PITT appliances, a couple of mini-wine cellars, dual eat-in islands and a secondary prep kitchen. A movie theater with blackout shades flows via pocketing doors to a bar holding court outside, and there also is another bar in a nook off the family room, plus two laundry rooms, an elevator and office space.

A sumptuous upstairs master retreat features a private balcony, fireplace, hidden ceiling TV, and double walk-in closets and lavish baths, while the aforementioned basement level comes complete with a gym, sauna, and steam and massage rooms; and outdoors, the manicured grounds host a hot and cold plunge pool, circular infinity-edge pool and spa flanked by a sundeck, built-in barbecue, and several spots ideal for al fresco lounging and entertaining. There’s also a roof deck and two-car garage.

The listing is shared by Mauricio Umanksy and Zach Goldsmith of The Agency, and Aaron Kirman, Bryce Lowe and Kirby Gillon of AKG | Christie’s International Real Estate.

Tom Petty’s Widow Just Spent Millions on a 1920s Spanish-Style Hacienda in L.A.

It’s hard to believe six years have passed since 66-year-old music legend Tom Petty unexpectedly died after slipping into unconsciousness at his Malibu home. Since then, Dana York — the Michigan native who was Petty’s wife for the last 16 years of his life — has continued living at the same Malibu estate, though it appears that residential situation could be changing. A trust linked to the Petty family recently paid $6.6 million for a luxury home in L.A.’sLittle Holmby neighborhood, an affluent enclave near UCLA and the bustling Wilshire Corridor.

Originally built in the 1920s, the Spanish Colonial Revival-style home was recently renovated by its longtime owners, “Curb Your Enthusiasm” executive producer Alec Berg and his wife Michele Maika Berg. The Bergs put their stylish hacienda on the market for $6.25 million, and it appears York fell hard for the keys, as she paid $350,000 over the asking price.

From the street, most of the roughly 4,600-square-foot house is hidden behind tall hedges and trees. But past a gated courtyard entryway, the five-bedroom, 6.5-bath stunner offers decorative tilework throughout, a wrought iron staircase, lustrous hardwood floors stained a deep brown, arched doorways, and antique French paned windows throughout. But the kitchen is all-new, featuring state-of-the-art luxury appliances and a big island, while the executive office boasts convenient garage access. Rounging out the main floor are a fireplace-equipped living room, a powder room and maid’s quarters.

Upstairs are the four family bedrooms, the primary suite equipped with an original fireplace and dual bathrooms, plus a bonus room that could be another office or a gym. Views drink in the lush backyard, which is awash with tropically-inspired landscaping. Also out back is a convenient lap pool and a separate hot tub, plus plum and nectarine trees; an outdoor kitchen services a stone patio and multiple terra-cotta terraces.

There’s also a state-of-the-art security system with multiple cameras monitoring the premises, a detached guesthouse and a full outdoor kitchen with a built-in barbecue center.

It remains to be seen if York purchased this Little Holmby estate was purchased for her personal use or for her adult son Dylan Epperson, who was recently married. Epperson’s current main residence, also owned by York, is a significantly smaller bungalow in Pacific Palisades. As for York, her longtime main residence is a Mediterranean-style mansion directly overlooking Malibu’s bustling Pacific Coast Highway, originally purchased by Tom Petty way back in 1998. Earlier this year, York sold Petty’s separate Malibu “recording studio,” an oceanfront cottage on Escondido Beach, for $10.3 million to Canadian hotel mogul Salim Sayani. More
