    Sidney Poitier’s Former Fifth Avenue Duplex Just Listed for $11.5 Million

    More than 20 years after Academy Award-winning actor Sidney Poitier scooped up an apartment on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the park-view duplex residence has popped back up for sale.

    On the market for $11.5 million with Corcoran’s Chris Kann, Poitier and his wife, Joanna, paid just $2.5 million for the Fifth Avenue pad back in 1994. According to New York Magazine, Poitier bought the apartment so they could be closer to their daughters, who were attending NYU at the time. After graduation, the family decided to relocate to Los Angeles, and Poitier sold the home in 2001 for $5 million to an art-collecting couple who already lived in the building. Now that the owners have passed, the unit is being offered by their estate.

    The apartment sits just above the treeline with open views over Central Park.

    Poitier’s former pre-war co-op is positioned right across from Central Park and the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir. Altogether, the spacious abode features five bedrooms and seven bathrooms spread across its two floors. Interestingly, it’s the only home in the building with six rooms, not to mention three bathrooms, that face the park.

    The home itself is accessed via a semi-private elevator that opens to a small foyer and an ample stair gallery. Just inside, a massive double living room that is roughly 25 feet square with a charming wood-burning fireplace, a wet bar, and sweeping skyline views thanks to three oversized single-pane picture windows. The nearby formal dining room leads to a windowed eat-in chef’s kitchen configured around a large central island. Additionally, this level holds two bedroom suites and a sculptural staircase that curls up to the second floor.

    The primary suite includes two walk-in closets and a dressing room.

    Upstairs, the spacious primary bedroom is complete with two huge walk-in closets, a dressing room with additional closet space, a fireplace, and a roomy bath. Two more en suite bedrooms are joined by a wood-paneled library that doubles as a media room and a service wing with a large laundry room, a home office, a bathroom, and a tiny staff bedroom easily converted to a gym or meditation space.

    The landmarked building at 1158 Fifth Avenue was originally designed by architects Howard Krane and Kenneth Franzheim in 1924. The French Renaissance-style structure in Manhattan’s Carnegie Hill sports a beautiful lobby staffed by full-time doormen and concierges, a fitness center, and bicycle storage.

      Tennis Icon John McEnroe’s Former N.Y.C. Apartment Can Be Yours for $9.8 Million

      The former Manhattan home of tennis ace John McEnroe has been lobbed onto the market, and you can score the athlete’s one-time pad for $9.8 million.

      The Grand Slam champion sold his Upper West Side co-op back in 2013 for a cool $3.1 million, and since then, the apartment has been expanded into a four-bed, four-bath combo unit, Mansion Global first reported. Located on Central Park West, the ESPN commentator’s former crib sits on the fourth floor of The Beresford, a designated New York City landmark. Along with Johnny Mac, the esteemed prewar building has played host to dozens of famous tenants since it was built in 1929. Most notably, Diana Ross, Meryl Streep, Jerry Seinfeld, and Diane Sawyer have all lived there, while New York Yankees legend Alex Rodriguez purchased a unit in the building in 2022.

      “What’s great about the Beresford is that it’s a building full of intellectuals and creatives of all stripes—from Fortune 500 CEOs to the creator of Sesame Street’s Cookie Monster,” Daniel Douglas of Corcoran, who holds the listing with colleague Eileen A LaMorte, told the real estate site. “While it’s undoubtedly a prestigious address, designed by the great Emery Roth, it’s open-minded and not stuffy.” 

      The apartment itself is accessed from a semi-private elevator landing that leads to an entrance gallery and entertainment area. The great room is decked out with a fireplace, and nearby there’s a formal dining area, a cozy library with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, and a massive 25-foot eat-in kitchen. The latter is any aspiring chef’s dream. Think sleek cabinets, composite counters, and top-of-the-line appliances from Sub-Zero, Miele, and Viking. Elsewhere, the primary suite occupies its own wing and is complete with an ensuite bathroom. “I like to call the scale of its rooms ‘approachable grandeur’ as they are grand but livable spaces,” Douglas added. “Any bigger would be too much.” 

      The renovated unit now has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a library.

      The tennis Hall-of-Famer, who became well-known for his outbursts on the court, is also somewhat of a real estate mogul. The retired athlete and his wife, singer-songwriter Patty Smyth, have owned their fair share of properties since they got married in 1997. Most recently, the couple offloaded their longtime home in Malibu, California, for a whopping $29 million. The estate was tucked within the guard-gated Malibu Colony community and was originally built in the 1930s. Prior to that, the couple has a house in the Hamptons they sold in 2017.

      Bad Bunny Is Renting This Swanky N.Y.C. Penthouse for $150,000 a Month

      Bad Bunny is officially a New Yorker.  

      Originally from Puerto Rico, the Grammy-winning rapper, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, is renting an ultra-swanky penthouse in Chelsea for a whopping $150,000 per month, the New York Post first reported. Spanning an impressive 4,552 square feet, the apartment sports four bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms. The palatial pad is matched with 4,593 square feet of patio space, which includes a private 32-foot lap pool, an outdoor kitchen, and multiple seating areas.  

      Last listed for $18.5 million with Chase Landow and Ryan Serhant of Serhant, the airy abode is expected to have its streaming debut next year when it airs on the broker’s new Netflix series, The Post reported. For now, we’ll walk you through what’s inside. The apartment is decked out with oak flooring, custom wood paneling, and soaring 12-foot ceilings. Of course, living high above the Big Apple also comes with the benefit of picturesque city views, courtesy of the home’s sliding glass walls.

      Fashion Designer Phillip Lim Sends His Manhattan Loft Down the Runway at $8.5 Million

      On the heels of his big return to New York Fashion Week, Phillip Lim is exiting his longtime Manhattan home.

      The designer, who co-founded his eponymous fashion label 3.1 Phillip Lim in 2005, has hoisted his Soho co-op onto the market for a cool $8.5 million, The Wall Street Journal first reported. Of course, if you’re looking for something a little less permanent, Lim’s loft can also be rented for $45,000 per month.

      Nestled within a historic cast-iron building, the sprawling abode is an amalgamation of two apartments. In 2007, when he made the move from California, the designer snapped up the first unit for $2.2 million. A few years later, in 2011, he nabbed the apartment next door for $1.8 million and initially used the extra space as a design studio. Per the WSJ, he later shelled out an additional $3 million to combine the two units into a single 3,500-square-foot spread. 

      Accessed via a private keyed elevator, the home comprises two bedrooms and two and a half baths. There’s a small private terrace off the living room, and, unsurprisingly, there are tons of stylish touches throughout, including white-oak herringbone floors. There’s a hidden wet bar in the dining room, and in the living room, a swing dangles from the ceiling in front of floor-to-ceiling custom bookshelves.

      Included with the sale is a black marble sculpture that Lin designed.

      Lim designed and installed a statement-making black marble sculpture as a divider between a sitting area and a dining room. And the best part is that the massive sculpture is baked into the asking price. Lim told the newspaper that all the furniture inside is also up for grabs, though for an extra fee. 

      The designer and cookbook author is currently looking for another place in the city that he can revamp. In the meantime, he has a home on the bucolic North Fork of Long Island.
