Home Depot Co-Founder Bernie Marcus Just Put His Atlanta Condo on the Market for $5 Million

He’s putting a nail in his Atlanta property! After more than a decade of ownership, Bernard “Bernie” Marcus has decided to let go of his Atlanta home in Buckhead’s Park Avenue high-rise residential tower near the Phipps Plaza and Lenox Square shopping malls. The Home Depot co-founder and staunch philanthropist is asking $5 million for the condo, which is listed by Nicholas Brown of Compass Georgia.

Records show Marcus and his wife Billi paid $3 million for the unit on the 37th floor of the 44-story structure in December 2010. The couple previously owned another smaller unit in the same building that they purchased in summer 2010 for $2 million and sold four years later for a speck under $1.4 million.

The Park Avenue luxury high-rise building is sited at the intersection of Wieuca Road and Park Avenue in the sought-after Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta.

As for this particular dwelling, it has three bedrooms and five baths spread across roughly 5,700 square feet of living space overlooking sweeping views stretching from the Downtown Atlanta skyline to Stone Mountain and Kennesaw Mountain beyond. Highlights include a grand salon, which is “an entertainer’s dream” per the listing, and holds a full bar, a card-playing area, and access to a wraparound terrace via sliding walls of glass. A circular formal dining room is topped by a domed ceiling adorned with a custom hand-blown glass chandelier and a gourmet kitchen boasts top-tier appliances and a climate-controlled wine room.

There’s also a sumptuous primary suite outfitted with floor-to-ceiling windows, a seating area, a luxe bath, and ample closet space. Elsewhere is an executive office and a wood-paneled library/study with a private balcony, as well as a guest bedroom and a self-contained suite for live-in staff that has its own kitchen, living room, and bath.

Accessible to a wraparound terrace, the grand salon hosts a lounge, full bar, and card-playing area.

The gated building also comes with numerous amenities courtesy of a hefty $4,071 monthly HOA fee, including valet and concierge service, a swimming pool and fitness center, a landscaped garden, a clubroom, a catering kitchen, wine storage, guest suites, and two reserved parking spaces.

After graduating from Rutgers University in his hometown of New Jersey in 1954, Marcus began his career as a drugstore pharmacist and later worked his way up the ranks at several retail businesses before founding The Home Depot in 1978 with now-Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United owner Arthur Blank. Marcus retired in 2002 and has since focused much of his energy on philanthropy, having donated more than $2 billion to nonprofits via The Marcus Foundation. The 95-year-old also plans to leave 90 percent of his currently estimated $11 billion fortune to the foundation upon his death.

“Atlanta holds a special place in my heart—it’s the city where we started The Home Depot back in 1978 and built it into one of the world’s greatest companies,” said Marcus, who also owns a home on the shores of Lake Toxaway in North Carolina. “This city will always be part of me and my commitment to its growth, well-being, and success will continue on.”

Kenny Rogers’s Chateau-Style Mansion in Georgia Is Up for Grabs at $2.5 Million

A little over four years after his death from natural causes at age 81, Kenny Rogers’s final homestead is newly available. As first reported by The Wall Street Journal, the Grammy-winning country singer moved into the property in the Atlanta suburb of Sandy Springs shortly before he passed away in March 2020 to be closer to his medical team. Now the opulent French Country-style residence is up for sale, asking a dash under $2.5 million. The listing is held by Thom McCorkle of Ansley Real Estate Christie’s International.

The stucco and stone-accented home clocks in at nearly 6,000 square feet.

    Bartolotti Media

Records show Rogers’s widow Wanda Rogers-Webb purchased the property in October 2019 for $1.7 million and subsequently renovated the premises, which included adding a custom-built elevator to help the ailing musician better navigate the multi-story house. The six-bedroom, six-bath home rests amid a cul-de-sac parcel spanning over half an acre and is fronted by a tiered fountain surrounded by manicured boxwood hedges. Steps lead up to double front doors, which open into almost 6,000 square feet of living space.

A grand double-height entry foyer displaying marble floors and a curving staircase flows to a turreted office space where Rogers conducted business and kept many of his music awards. Other highlights include formal living and dining rooms, as well as a gourmet kitchen boasting an eat-in island, high-end stainless appliances, a butler’s pantry with a wine fridge, and a window-lined breakfast nook.

The singer kept many of his music awards in a turreted office space next to the foyer.

    Bartolotti Media

Elsewhere is a fireside family room, plus a lavish primary suite that comes complete with a private balcony and a luxe bath sporting a wet bar, dual vanities, and a lavish built-in soaking tub. A lower-level entertainment area has a movie theater, a climate-controlled wine cellar, and a game room with a kitchenette and a seated bar, while the private backyard hosts a covered loggia overlooking a waterfall-fed pool and spa. There’s also a three-car garage.

Per WSJ, Rogers’s widow is selling because she has remarried and is relocating. “This home, sadly, was our last home with Kenny,” said Rogers-Webb, who was married to the singer for more than 20 years. “To make the decision to move was a little bittersweet for me and the boys.”

During his decades-long career, the Texas native sold more than 100 records. His numerous country hits ranged from the breakthrough single Lucille, which was released when he was 38 years old, to The Gambler, which has been called “one of the most popular singalong songs in the world.” Also topping the pop charts were Lady, written and produced by Lionel Richie, and Islands in the Stream, composed by the Bee Gees and performed by Dolly Parton.

In addition to three Grammy awards, recognition for lifetime achievement by the Country Music Association, and induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2013, the musician also dabbled in acting and photography. He even co-founded the chicken restaurant chain Kenny Rogers Roasters, which now operates overseas.

Country Singer Zac Brown Seeks $3.2 Million for His Georgia Lake House

After four years of ownership, Zac Brown has decided to part ways with his Georgia retreat perched atop the south shores of Lake Lanier in his hometown of Cumming, about 45 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta. The founding member and frontman of the Grammy-winning country/rock group Zac Brown Band—probably most known for the hit songs Chicken Fried, Knee Deep, and Same Boat—is asking $3.25 million for the waterfront spread, which he acquired for $1.8 million in June 2020.

Built in the early 1990s, the white wood-sided and stone-accented structure features seven bedrooms and five baths in a little more than 9.400 square feet of living space on three levels boasting surround sound and automated window treatments. Outdoors, the woodsy grounds span almost an acre and include a heated infinity pool flanked by a waterfall and spa, a cedar-clad dock with a party deck up top, a separate boathouse, and 150 feet of waterfront footage, plus a detached five-car garage.

Sitting amid a secluded cove on Lake Lanier, the cedar dock has two boat slips and a party deck.

Main-level highlights include a formal dining room and a spacious double-height living area sporting picture windows, a built-in entertainment center, and a stone fireplace stretching to the ceiling. An adjacent kitchen outfitted with quartz countertops, an eat-in island, Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances, and a walk-in pantry connects to a fireside breakfast room that flows out to a screen porch with water views. A spacious primary suite holds a seating area warmed by a fireplace, a walk-in closet, and a spa-like bath with dual vanities, a soaking tub, and a shower.

Upstairs are three bedrooms and a loft-style lounging space that segues into a library hosting a wet bar, while the terrace floor has two more bedrooms with access to a kitchenette, as well as a sauna-equipped gym and a movie theater that comes complete with professional lighting, tiered seating, and multiple TVs and gaming systems. There’s also a recreation room with a seated bar, a fireplace, and French doors spilling out to an expansive deck.

Per listing agent Katie McGuirk of Ansley Christie’s International Real Estate, the 46-year-old musician—who is also widely known as a songwriter, producer, record label head, and philanthropist—purchased the lakefront home during the Covid-19 pandemic so he could have a place to make music and unwind with friends and family.

“This has been an incredible home for me and my family, with a great location that feels like it’s a world away from the city,” said Brown in a press statement. “We’re sad to let it go, but I look forward to passing it on to new owners who will fill it with new memories.”

Gwyneth Paltrow Lists in L.A., Milla Jovovich Snags an NBA Star’s House, and More Celebrity Deals

    Published on June 6, 2024

Now that Gwyneth Paltrow’s custom-built mansion in Santa Barbara’s posh seaside Montecito enclave has finally come to fruition, the Oscar-winning actress and lifestyle guru has decided to lighten her SoCal real estate portfolio, having stuck a nearly $30 million price tag on her longtime Los Angeles home in the Lower Mandeville area of Brentwood.
Though that’s a whopping $20 million or so more than the Goop CEO and her ex-husband Chris Martin of Coldplay fame paid for the 1950s spread almost 12 years ago, back in spring 2012, Paltrow did extensively renovate the premises during her ownership. According to The Wall Street Journal, she added a one-bedroom guesthouse boasting a climate-controlled wine cellar, an office, a gym, a game room, and a movie theater. There’s also an apartment resting atop the garage.
Nestled on a parcel spanning roughly two-thirds of an acre and described in marketing materials as “Southern Transitional,” the Windsor Smith-designed house features eight bedrooms and 11 baths in a little more than 12,700 square feet of single-level living space boasting reclaimed wood floors and patterned stonework throughout.
Highlights include a voluminous living room with French doors leading out to a backyard hosting a plunge pool, as well as a bookshelf-lined family room and a gourmet kitchen outfitted with an eat-in island, a breakfast nook, double cooktops and ranges, plus a wood-burning oven. Elsewhere is a secluded primary wing hosting dual baths.

Paltrow has shared the digs with her husband, writer-producer Brad Falchuk, since they were wed in 2018. The couple, who have four grown children between them, now plan to split their time between their homes in Montecito and Amagansett, N.Y., along with a potential new dwelling in L.A.
The residence, which sits right next door to a modern farmhouse-style spread that was reportedly just purchased by rapper and songwriter Kendrick Lamar for more than $40 million, is listed by Lea Porter of The Beverly Hills Estates.

NFL Quarterback Tyrod Taylor Tosses His Georgia Home on the Market for $5 Million
Tyrod Taylor has officially hoisted his swanky estate in the Roswell suburb of Atlanta up for sale. The New York Jets quarterback acquired the residence for $2.4 million a little over five years ago, back in spring 2019, and now it’s returned to the market with a $5 million ask.
Originally built in 2016 and fully remodeled during Taylor’s tenure in collaboration with Infinite Home and The Chalice by Ashleigh Chalice, the brick-clad structure features seven bedrooms and 10 baths in a little more than 15,000 square feet of multi-level living space boasting an elevator, six fireplaces, a fully loaded guest apartment, a billiards room, a humidor, and a wellness center with a gym and sauna. Other posh amenities can be found amid the gated and landscaped grounds, which span just over 2 acres and host a fire-pit, a sports court, and a waterfall-enhanced pool and spa.

Additional standout features include a double-height entry foyer displaying a glass and steel-framed wine cellar, a wood-paneled library/office, and a family room holding a fireplace flanked by built-in shelving and French doors spilling out to a lanai with a barbecue station. An adjacent gourmet kitchen is furnished with custom cabinetry, an eat-in island, Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances, and a breakfast nook, while a sumptuous primary retreat flaunts a fireplace, a mini-bar, dual showroom-style closets, and a luxe bath outfitted spotlighted by a fireside soaking tub and a steam shower.
Originally selected in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens, the 34-year-old Virginia native recently rejoined the Jets in March. He also launched the luxury streetwear brand DIALLO alongside Dex Robinson.

An NBA Player’s Hidden Hills Mansion Finally Sells to Milla Jovovich
Ben Simmons has officially offloaded his Hidden Hills residence via auction for a smidge over $12 million, or a substantial $5.4 million less than the NBA All-Star paid for the place three years ago, back in spring 2021.
Records reveal the buyer is Resident Evil actress Milla Jovovich and her English director/producer husband Paul W.S. Anderson. After languishing on the market since May 2022, initially with a hefty $23 million ask, the listing price was reduced several times before the house finally sold to the couple at a substantial discount.
Resting at the end of a secluded cul-de-sac, amid a gated and olive tree-laced parcel spanning 1.5-acres, the home was built in 2021 by Nobel LA in the trendy modern farmhouse style, complete with a striking exterior hewn from vertical reclaimed wood siding and charcoal-hued brick. A total of seven bedrooms and eight baths are sprawled across 12,000 square feet of living space, with amenities including two pools, a guesthouse, a gym, and a three-car garage.
A dramatic two-way fireplace serves as the focal point of a spacious great room, which holds a living area with automated Fleetwood glass doors opening to a patio and a dining room with a duo of custom metal chandeliers that reportedly cost more than $100,000 each, plus a climate-controlled wine wall and tucked-away catering kitchen with commercial-grade appliances.

Other highlights include a candy dispenser-equipped screening room, along with a fireside family room providing an indoor garden and access to a backyard terrace sporting a fireside lounge area. A sleekly designed kitchen has glass burners and a pop-up vent integrated into the marble island, as well as a dining area; and elsewhere is a sky bridge leading to a primary retreat displaying a fireplace, a designer showroom closet, and a luxe bath equipped with two chiseled marble block sinks, a soaking tub and steam shower.
Jovovich and Anderson still own two L.A. properties: a contemporary Hollywood Hills mansion they paid $10.2 million for in 2022 and a house in the Mount Olympus neighborhood that was reportedly once occupied by Jovovich’s mother Galina.

Norman Reedus Is Asking $3.8 Million for His Frank Lloyd Wright-Inspired Georgia Retreat

Norman Reedus won’t be treading on Georgia turf much longer, because the “crossbow wielding, motorcycle driving badass with a heart of gold” is officially stepping away from his longtime residence on the outskirts of Atlanta.

After eight years of ownership, and a brief stint on the rental market at $12,500 per month, The Walking Dead star has now adhered a $3.8 million price tag to the contemporary Chattahoochee Hills spread he picked up back in fall 2015 for nearly $3 million. Built in 2009, and crafted by noted New York City-based designer Shamir Shah, the Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired home is described by listing agent Addie Bartlett of Compass as offering “an unparalleled experience of refined living in an environment where simplicity is synonymous with luxury.”

Nestled amid a heavily wooded parcel spanning a quarter of an acre—within the master-planned community of Serenbe, about 30 miles southwest of downtown Atlanta—the striking limestone and granite structure has four bedrooms and five baths in a little more than 4,100 square feet of multi-level living space boasting wide-plank white oak floors, high ceilings and large windows throughout. There’s also a bath-equipped bonus room over the attached two-car garage.

The 2009-built home was inspired by the work of noted architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

    Cheyenne Crawford/HomeStar Media

A lengthy driveway empties out at the house, with the front door pivoting into a main level highlighted by a spacious living room outfitted with a wall of windows and trio of glass doors spilling out to a screened porch warmed by a stone fireplace. Other highlights include a cozy fireside sitting room, dining room with a built-in buffet, and gourmet kitchen sporting an eat-in island topped with natural quartzite stone, top-tier Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances, two sinks, a wine fridge and walk-in pantry.

A pair of guest bedrooms also can be found on the bottom level, while an upstairs primary suite holds a massive walk-in closet and dressing area, as well as a marble-clad bath equipped with dual vanities, a soaking tub and glass-encased shower. Elsewhere is an office space, plus a lower level displaying a bedroom, gym and dining/entertainment space with a wet bar.

A screened-in porch off the main living area has a stone fireplace.

    Cheyenne Crawford/HomeStar Media

Outdoors, the woodsy grounds host a meandering creek, an al fresco dining area bolstered by a grilling station, and plunge pool that doubles as a spa. The new homeowner also will have access to Serenbe’s vast array of amenities, which include a swim club, tennis courts, stables and 16 miles of nature trails.

Before the 55-year-old Florida native rose to fame for his role as Daryl Dixon on AMC’s post-apocalyptic zombie drama The Walking Dead, which aired its final episode in November 2022, he headlined the cult classic The Boondock Saints, and had supporting roles in 8MM, Blade 2 and American Gangster. Reedus—who earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2022—is currently appearing in a Daryl Dixon spinoff, with the second season set to air later this year.

In addition to the for-sale Georgia house, Reedus and his actress partner Diane Kruger own at least three N.Y.C. residences between them, including a four-bedroom, 3,650-square-foot townhouse in Manhattan. Reedus also maintains a big spread in upstate New York that’s currently occupied by his mother.

After Buying Elton John’s Condo, an Art Collector Lists His Spectacular Atlanta Mansion

Seven years ago, this particularly lavish Atlanta residence fetched the highest sales price ever in the desirable in-town Ansley Park neighborhood when it traded hands in a $5.4 million deal. Now it’s up for sale again, and this time the asking price is a speck under $8 million, which would mark another milestone in the area if it were to go for anywhere near that amount.

Though the listing brokerage declined to disclose the seller’s identity, property records show the current owner of the home is Scott Westervelt. Records also indicate that the local art collector and Presbyterian minister, whose longtime wife Josephine Robinson Westervelt passed away in June 2020, was also the mystery buyer who recently paid $7.2 million for Elton John’s condo in Buckhead’s 40-story Park Place high-rise residential tower.

Records indicate that art collector Scott Westervelt paid just over $7 million for Elton John’s Buckhead condo in November.

Late Lynyrd Skynyrd Guitarist Gary Rossington’s Longtime Georgia Home Lists for $12 Million

Nine months after his death earlier this year at age 71, the Georgia estate of legendary guitarist Gary Rossington is available for the first time in its three-decade history. Resting in the well-to-do community of Milton, about 30 miles north of Atlanta, the bucolic residence is up for sale at exactly $12 million, as first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

A founder of the legendary Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd—and the last surviving original member—Rossington had cheated death more than once, according to Rolling Stone. Not only did he survive a car accident in 1976 in which he drove his Ford Torino into a tree, inspiring the band’s cautionary song That Smell, but he also emerged with two broken arms, a broken leg, and punctured stomach and liver after a 1977 plane crash that killed singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines and backing vocalist Cassie Gaines.

Rossington went on to have quintuple bypass surgery in 2003, suffered a heart attack in 2015 and then underwent numerous heart surgeries, having left Lynyrd Skynyrd in summer 2021 to recover from one of those procedures.

A glass-lined great room is spotlighted by a fireplace stretching to the ceiling.

Mike Smith/Drone Media Solutions for Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby’s International Realty

Meanwhile, the musician and his longtime wife Dale pieced together their 80-acre property over several years, purchasing the first 7-acre parcel for just over $1 million in 1997, per WSJ. Built in the early 1990s, and affectionately known as “Free Bird’s Nest,” the since-renovated premises are showcased by a main home and separate guesthouse—for a total of nine bedrooms and an equal number of baths in 7,500 square feet of living space.

Other highlights include a double-height entry foyer that flows to a formal dining room and study, as well as a fireside great room that connects to an eat-in kitchen outfitted with top-tier appliances, a workstation and windowed breakfast nook. Another living area has a fireplace and French doors opening to an expansive wood deck, while a main-level master retreat comes complete with a sitting area, mini-bar, and spa-like bath equipped with dual vanities, a dressing area, garden tub and tiled shower.

A finished terrace level features a seated bar, billiards area, cozy fireplace and full bath.

Mike Smith/Drone Media Solutions for Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby’s International Realty

Three more bedrooms can be found upstairs, including an en-suite one, and two that share a bath; and the terrace level offers plenty of room for relaxing and entertaining guests with a fireplace, built-in bar, billiards area and Rossington’s simple music studio, which consisted of a desk, armchair, CD player and small amplifiers.

The amenities continue outdoors, where the sprawling grounds host a custom waterfall-fed pool and spa, fire-pit, pair of barns “ready for storage or conversion into animal spaces,” per the listing, and large spring-fed fishing lake sporting two docks, one floating and another with dual boat slips. There’s also a spacious motorcourt flanked by an attached two-car garage out front.

An inviting backyard pool area is surrounded by grassy lawns and a fishing lake.

Mike Smith/Drone Media Solutions for Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby’s International Realty

In addition to their primary Georgia residence, the couple also maintained a home in the Wyoming city of Jackson Hole. Per WSJ, Rossington’s widow is selling because she is planning to move to Florida where she can be closer to family. “Without Gary, it’s time for us to move on,” she said. “We’ve had our time here.”

The listing is held by Cynthia Chandlee of Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby’s International Realty.

Amid Divorce, Kim Zolciak and Kroy Biermann List Their Extravagant Georgia Estate for $6 Million

Don’t be tardy for this fire sale! Kim Zolciak-Biermann and Kroy Biermann have officially listed their marital home amid a messy divorce and financial struggles.

As first reported by TMZ, “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” alum and former NFL player’s elaborate stone and brick mansion in a gated community within the suburban city of Milton, about 30 miles north of Atlanta, just hit the market for exactly $6 million. Originally offered for $3.2 million earlier this month, the property was purchased by the estranged couple for a mere $880,000 back in 2012, about a year after they were married.

Per TMZ, the home was set to enter foreclosure next month—“so Kim and Kroy are getting ahead of the auction in attempting to sell it themselves.” The outlet also said Kroy Biermann had previously filed documents asking a judge to allow the sale of the home to help pay off the pair’s various debts.

Built in 2008, the two-story structure rests on almost 2 acres of gated land overlooking a lake and the 18th fairway of The Manor Golf & Country Club, and features seven bedrooms and 11 baths in roughly 9,000 square feet of living space on two levels tricked out with soaring ceilings, designer chandeliers and lots of other bling-bling. There’s also a porte-cochère and six-car garage with room for lifts to store up to eight vehicles, plus a separate area atop the garage sporting a two-station salon and bath.

In addition to a double-height entry foyer displaying a curving staircase lined with elaborate ironwork, the main level also hosts a wood-paneled study spotlighted by a coffered ceiling and fireplace flanked by custom built-ins, and the family room adjoins a gourmet kitchen outfitted with custom cabinetry, an eat-in island, Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances, and a circular breakfast nook.

Other highlights include a wet bar-equipped entertainment space, formal living and dining rooms, and a primary bedroom suite flaunting a fireplace, sitting area, two-story walk-in closet, and luxe bath with dual vanities and a soaking tub.

Four more en-suite bedrooms, a landing-area bonus room, playroom and domed circular sitting area can be found upstairs; and relaxation is the name of the game on the terrace level, where you’ll find another family room, as well as a movie theater, 500-bottle wine cellar and gym, along with dedicated billiard, arcade and massage rooms.
