Judd Apatow Just Sold His $27 Million L.A. Home to a Mystery Buyer

Judd Apatow, who already sports a net worth reportedly well north of $150 million, just added a huge check to his bank account. In a deal that quietly closed last month, records reveal the super-prolific Hollywood director/producer (Bridesmaids, Knocked Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin) and actress Leslie Mann sold their mortgage-free Los Angeles main residence for $27 million.

Because the deal was inked off-market, photos and details are scant. In fact, the lavish Brentwood Park estate has never been publicly marketed for sale. Built in 2005 by “Prison Break” producer Marty Adelstein, the manicured property was sold to Apatow in 2009, in an $18 million deal also inked off-market.

Tax records and aerial imagery reveal the traditional-style main house is quite large, with five bedrooms and seven baths in more than 10,000 square feet of living space. There’s also a detached pool house, plus a semi-detached three-car garage connected to the house by an enclosed walkway.

Other amenities include a full finished basement, a gated motorcourt, a backyard swimming pool and lush lawns shaded by mature oaks and sycamores. The entire property, which spans three-quarters of a flat acre, is ringed by tall hedgerows for residential tranquility.

The gated estate features a detached pool house, an in-ground trampoline and a swimming pool.

    Google Earth

Although it seems very likely their name will emerge in the coming weeks, the buyer’s identity is not yet known and remains shielded behind a mysteriously-monikered LLC. And as the house is located on what is perhaps the most prime street in Brentwood Park, some of the buyer’s new neighbors will include a long list of high-profile people — Sofia Richie, David Foster, and “South Park” creator Trey Parker, to name a few.

Maybe it’s not really a surprise that Apatow and Mann have sold their elegant estate. The showbiz pair recently became empty nesters, and last year Mann jokingly told Seth Meyers that she was left with “no idea who I am,” when her children moved out. No word yet about where the couple is relocating, but records show they’ve long owned a $9 million condo in New York City’s West Village neighborhood. More

As first reported by the Orange County Register, the former Anaheim Angels outfielder is asking a speck under $6.8 million for his sleekly designed Newport Beach spread, which is listed by Annie Clougherty of Compass.

Records show Upton and his wife Ashley paid $4.7 million back in spring 2020 for the modern farmhouse-style digs, which were originally designed by architect Randall Coombs and later reimagined by Scottsdale-based DeCesare Design Group. Completed in 2019, the white wood-sided structure offers five bedrooms and seven baths in almost 6,000 square feet of living space boasting reclaimed oak hardwood floors, Lutron lighting and brass fixtures throughout, plus a striking floating staircase adorned with solid oak treads.

An open-concept living and dining area flows seamlessly to an al fresco entertaining terrace.

Resting amid a parcel spanning less than a quarter of an acre, in the desirable Dover Shores neighborhood near the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve, the three-story house is highlighted upon entry by a sunken living room with a fireplace. Barn doors slide open to reveal a cozy den, and a family room and dining area connect to a gourmet kitchen outfitted with lava stone countertops, a butcher block-topped eat-in island and Thermador appliances.

Upstairs, a luxe master retreat comes complete with a fireplace, sitting area, private balcony, walk-in closet, and spa-like bath sporting dual vanities, a soaking tub and separate shower; and down on the lower level is a custom glass-encased wine cellar, as well as a surround-sound screening room flanked by a full wet bar equipped with a beer froster, ice maker, refrigerator and popcorn machine.

The lower-level screening room has surround sound and an accompanying bar area.

    Alejandro España

Outdoors, the turf-clad backyard hosts an expansive terrace ideal for al fresco entertaining with a built-in barbecue and fire-pit, and per the listing, plenty of room to add a pool. There’s also an attached three-car garage and moutcourt out front.

Upton, 36, became a free agent in 2022. He began his professional baseball career in 2007 with the Arizona Diamondbacks after being chosen as the first pick of the 2005 draft right out of high school, and went on to join the Atlanta Braves, San Diego Padres, Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Angels and Seattle Mariners. He’s been selected to four All-Star teams and won three Silver Slugger Awards.

A Celebrity Doctor Just Paid $27 Million for a Bayfront SoCal Mansion

He’s been labeled the “most popular psychiatrist in America,” with millions of followers on social media and 12 New York Times-bestselling books under his belt, and now Dr. Daniel Amen has the house to reflect that success. The 69-year-old mogul recently recently paid exactly $27 million for a bayfront mansion in Newport Beach, Calif., not far from the Costa Mesa headquarters of his Amen Clinics empire.

Built on speculation by a developer, the Tuscan-style house spans nearly 9,500 square feet of living space and was completed in 2006. Later that same year, it was sold to auto tycoon Fletcher “Ted” Jones Jr., owner of the world’s largest Mercedes-Benz dealership by volume, and his second wife Kimberly.

After the Joneses divorced about 10 years ago, records indicate Kimberly kept the lavish Newport marital home, though the waterfront property was on and off the market for much of the last seven years at prices fluctuating between $30 million and $32 million. At least two buyers’ offers were accepted during that time, but both deals eventually fell through before Dr. Amen stepped up to the plate.

Most of the home’s Old World-style finishes are antique and imported. Numerous French doors open to covered terraces.

    Andrew Bramasco

Sited on a third-of-an-acre lot, large for tightly-packed Balboa Peninsula, the estate is fronted by a detached four-car garage complete with an upstairs guesthouse. From the street, visitors heading to the main house must travel via a gated walkway that passes under the guesthouse before spilling into a tranquil courtyard accented by a large central fountain flanked by grassy lawns.

Beyond that, the main house features antique finishes, imported stone from Italy, and a mixture of hardwood and limestone flooring. There’s a gourmet kitchen open to a bar seating area and a fireside dining area, plus a separate formal dining room with bay views.

Open to the kitchen, this fireside dining area overlooks Newport Harbor.

    Andrew Bramasco

Other amenities are not limited to an upstairs master retreat with dual bathrooms and dual private terraces, a movie theater with seating for 10 lucky viewers, and a backyard with an infinity pool and two ancient olive trees. In addition to a wine cellar, the house also boasts what the listing describes as a “subterranean wine room” with space for entertaining. But perhaps the property’s most notable features are its panoramic coastline views and a massive private boat dock, the latter capable of mooring two 60-foot yachts.

Over the course of his 40-year career in psychiatry, Dr. Amen has built a majorly profitable business that now includes numerous books, dietary supplements, speaking engagements, television appearances and more than 200 employees. He was prominently featured on a recent episode of “The Kardashians,” and is perhaps best known for his usage of SPECT imaging for diagnostic purposes — the Los Angeles native’s clinics have performed some 200,000 of these $3,500 brain scans over 30 years.

Liquid Death’s Founder Has Dropped $10 Million on a Hilltop Malibu Mansion

Canned water, wrapped in packaging that makes it look like beer? It may be unconventional, but it’s also proven wildly lucrative. In less than five years, Los Angeles-based Liquid Death has built a $700 million valuation from it, along with a substantial amount of hype. The Washington Post has called the viral brand “a mind-set,” while The New Yorker noted that the decidedly irreverent marketing — one of the company’s slogans is “Murder your thirst” — was designed to “appeal to punks who are ‘straight edge’ — eschewing drugs, tobacco, and alcohol.” In any case, the company has rocked the industry — it’s now the fastest-growing water brand in the country, per Forbes.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the brand’s founder Mike Cessario does not have a background in bottling water. He’s a 41-year-old marketing expert who previously worked for companies like Street League Skateboarding and VaynerMedia.

A longtime Southern California local who has lived in the beach communities of Malibu and Manhattan Beach, Cessario has put some of that liquid success to residential use, paying $10.5 million for a hilltop house on Point Dume, one of Malibu’s most coveted neighborhood pockets.

The Point Dume house includes oversized windows and honey-colored hardwood floors throughout.

Built in 2001 and hidden behind gates and a long driveway on a 1.2-acre lot, the Mediterranean villa-style home packs five bedrooms and six bathrooms into nearly 6,800 square feet of living space. Highlights include towering ceilings, hardwood floors and large windows throughout; the kitchen offers commercial-grade stainless appliances and a built-in breakfast nook, while the living room and formal dining room both spill out to a wraparound deck kitted out with a fire-pit and a spacious al fresco dining area.

Four of the home’s five bedrooms are located on the ground floor, all of them equipped with ensuite bathrooms. Upstairs, the enormous master suite encompasses nearly all of the home’s second floor, packing in a large bathroom and walk-in closet. Adjacent to the suite is a large bonus room that could be a executive-style private office, and the master also sports a private ocean-view deck with its own separate yoga studio.

The primary suite includes a big deck with sitting areas and a separate yoga studio.

    Mike Helfrich

Out back, the landlocked estate boasts some of its best attributes. The verdant grounds include a big swath of grassy lawn, a rectangular swimming pool and a separate jacuzzi set directly underneath a gazebo laced with bougainvillea.

On one side of the house, a patio includes a fire-pit and fountain. And there’s also a manicured garden equipped with a whimsical bridge and open-air living room.

Lush landscaping tightly hugs the 1.2-acre estate.

    Mike Helfrich

The property also includes pathways and meandering trails that wind their way through lush, subtropical landscaping interspersed by native sycamore and oak trees. Hidden in a corner of the yard, obscured behind a giant palm tree, is an accessory structure complete with its own full bathroom and kitchenette that “could be a guest suite, office, cabana or studio,” per the listing.

Best of all, the property is a brisk walk to the beach and enjoys views of the Santa Monica mountains, the ocean and a long strip of the famously scenic Malibu coastline.

The Creator of ‘Friends’ Just Bought a $23 Million Malibu Home With an Oceanfront Basketball Court

It’s good to be Marta Kauffman. The veteran television writer and producer, who’s probably still best known for co-creating the über-successful sitcom “Friends,” has paid $23.6 million in cash for an oceanfront home on Malibu’s coveted Broad Beach. Complete with a basketball court and detached guesthouse, the compound is sited on a nearly 1-acre double lot, a rare amount of space for the neighborhood.

And it gets even better: Kauffman’s new home is right next door to a $16 million house she’s owned since 2006. When coupled together, the two properties give her nearly 1.3 acres of land and more than 7,000 square feet of living space right on one of Malibu’s most popular and pricey beaches.

Kauffman now owns one of the largest and most impressive compounds on Broad Beach.

    Google Earth

The latest Kauffman acquisition was sold to her by Milwaukee Brewers owner Mark Attanasio, who acquired the double lot in two separate transactions more than 20 years ago, paying about $6.4 million in total. He then spent another small fortune making upgrades and additions to the premises, including remodeling the Cape Cod-style main house and installing that aforementioned basketball court, before putting the place up for grabs at nearly $25 million earlier this year.

Previously, the walled and gated estate had been offered as a beachfront rental, asking as much as $150,000 per month.

Several sets of sliding and French doors throughout the house provide easy access to a backyard deck.

Open House Foto for Sotheby’s International Realty

Interior highlights of the four-bedroom main house include a spacious chef’s kitchen with premium appliances, a light-filled dining/family room combo that spills out to an oceanfront patio, and an upstairs master retreat with ocean views and a private balcony.

Also on tap are grassy lawns, well-tended gardens, a sandy beachfront sitting area and a huge wooden deck, complete with a jacuzzi and fire-pit, that’s primed for entertaining. But perhaps the property’s most unusual feature is the one-bedroom guesthouse, which lies directly below the detached two-car garage and includes its own bathroom and laundry room.

The spacious backyard has ample room for large-scale entertaining.

Open House Foto for Sotheby’s International Realty

Kauffman, who also co-created the Netflix series “Grace and Frankie,” now lays claim to one of the most impressive estates on Broad Beach. When combined with her longtime home next door, the 67-year-old’s holdings include two oceanfront homes, two detached guesthouses and garage parking for five cars. Smack-dab in the middle of the compound is the sports court, where some of her lucky “Friends” will be able to shoot hoops while watching the sun set over the ocean waves.

Ari Attanasio of Sotheby’s International Realty held the listing; Ellen Francisco of Coldwell Banker Realty repped the buyer.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s Former Beverly Hills Rental Mansion Is Up for Grabs at $85 Million

Last summer, before they finally settled on a $61 million spread high in the mountains above Beverly Hills, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck leased another 90210 residence. And perhaps unsurprisingly, that place has just popped up for sale with a whopping $85 million price tag, as first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Originally built way back in the 1930s, the celeb-pedigreed pad also was home to Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman for over two decades beginning in the early 1990s. The now-separated acting couple sold the house in 2015 for $28 million to local developers Stuart and Stephanie Liner, who subsequently undertook an extensive renovation of the premises. They then flipped the place three years later for $64 million to Australian billionaire James Packer, son of the late media mogul Kerry Packer.

    A wet bar-equipped lounge/game room is warmed by a striking floor-to-ceiling fireplace.

    Adrian van Anz

Resting on over an acre of land, the gated compound is comprised of a main home and several additional structures—for a total of 12 bedrooms and 17 baths in nearly 25,000 square feet of living space. Posh amenities include an elevator, a movie theater, wet bar-equipped lounge/game room, wood-paneled wine cellar, cigar room, gym and sauna, and not one but two garages with parking for up to eight vehicles.

As for the primary dwelling, it’s highlighted by a living room boasting a fireplace and an adjoining office/den, plus a formal dining room that seats 12. A family room flaunting a recently spruced-up bar area connects to an elaborate marble-clad kitchen, which sports an eat-in island, top-tier appliances and a separate breakfast nook with a built-in banquette.

A sparkling pool is flanked by a pool house with a living area, bedroom and bath.

    Adrian van Anz

Other standout features include a lush master retreat, which comes complete with a fireside sitting area and private balcony, as well as dual walk-in closets and baths; and outdoors, the resort-inspired grounds host a pool and spa flanked by a pool house with its own living area, bedroom and bath, along with an al fresco dining area outfitted with a full kitchen. There’s also a 2,800-square-foot accessory building.

The listing is shared by Santiago Arana of The Agency and Jade Mills of Coldwell Banker Realty.

‘Avatar’ Actress Zoe Saldana Is Seeking $16 Million for Her Beverly Hills Home

After a little more than seven years of ownership, Zoe Saldana has put her traditional tennis court property in Beverly Hills up for sale. As first reported by The Wall Street Journal, the veteran film actress—probably best known for her roles in Star Trek, Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy—is asking $16.5 million for the place she picked up from model/entrepreneur Kimora Lee Simmons for $8.7 million back in spring 2016.

Tucked away on a gated and hedged parcel spanning over a half-acre, in the guarded Hidden Valley Estates community where other residences include Adele, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicole Kidman and Penelope Cruz, the three-story structure was originally built in 1974. Since remodeled, it features five bedrooms and seven baths in 6,400 square feet of living space boasting hardwood floors, imported polished stone finishes and designer lighting throughout.

Steps pass through a manicured yard before emptying out at a columned front porch and yellow-hued door, which opens into a double-height entry foyer displaying a curving staircase. From there, highlights include a formal dining room surrounded by wainscoted walls, fireside living room adorned with steel-and-glass cabinetry and wood-clad family room, plus a bespoke kitchen outfitted with an eat-in island, top-tier appliances and a separate breakfast room.

A wood-paneled family room has French doors spilling out to a terrace.

    Jeremy Spann

A spacious upstairs master retreat sports a fireplace, sitting area and dual closets, as well as a marble bath spotlighted by a large oval soaking tub; and elsewhere is a media room, lounge area and gym, along with grassy grounds hosting a pool and spa, an al fresco dining area with a barbecue and kitchen setup, and a lighted tennis court. There’s also a two-car garage on the premises.

The property, also available for lease at $47,500 per month, is listed by Brett Lawyer of Carolwood Estates.

Simon Cowell’s Former Beverly Hills Estate Sells for Nearly $34 Million

Back in summer 2020, near the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Simon Cowell sold his longtime Beverly Hills main residence for exactly $25 million. Three years later, the nearly 1-acre property has made real estate waves once again, transferring in another off-market deal for a whopping $33.6 million — one of the priciest deals ever closed south of Sunset Boulevard, in the so-called Beverly Hills Flats neighborhood. The latest transaction was first reported by The Real Deal.

The unapologetically lavish property, which boasts a sublime location on the best block of a prestigious street, was acquired by Cowell way back in 2004 for just $8 million. The all-around mogul subsequently spent five years — and undoubtedly many millions of dollars — transforming the place into a high-tech fortress packed with custom amenities, including a wellness center and a million-dollar security system.

Cowell sold the property in 2020 by Alon Abady, a Beverly Hills local who is managing partner at Waterfall Bridge Capital, a commercial and residential real estate investment firm. Abady, 53, flipped the estate at a substantial profit to Syailendra Bakrie, a businessman and member of one of Indonesia’s wealthiest families. Earlier this year, the 43-year-old’s younger sister Adinda Bakrie paid $21 million for a contemporary mansion elsewhere in the Beverly Hills Flats.

Because the Cowell estate has never been publicly offered on the market, some of its various interior accouterments remain a mystery. But the “America’s Got Talent” judge had the property photographed and published many times over the years, and the traditional-meets-contemporary residential fusion boasts a black-and-white interior motif enhanced by copious amounts of marble and glass. There are at least five bedrooms and eight baths in nearly 10,000 square feet of living space.

Some of the property’s numerous amenities include a solarium, movie theater, lap-lane swimming pool, pool cabana with a retractable roof, an at-home tanning salon, a state-of-the-art gym, two kitchens, and that wellness suite with spa and massage facilities, plus a steam room. For the hired help, there are maid’s and butler’s quarters, and a security detail can monitor the premises through the world-class security system, which includes retina scan authorization.

Outside, the estate includes a sparkling pool, a detached pool house/guesthouse of some sort, verdant lawns, mature palm trees and a street-facing façade obscured by gorgeous native sycamores. A gated courtyard has parking space for at least a half-dozen luxury vehicles.

Fully customized by Cowell, the nearly 10,000-square-foot house includes a bevy of high-tech amenities. More
