‘Hacks’ Star Megan Stalter Just Snagged Herself Some Midcentury L.A. Digs

During the past few years, Megan Stalter has transitioned from the Chicago comedy scene to a breakout role as “party fashionista slash silly rich girl” assistant Kayla in the Emmy-nominated HBO Max series Hacks. Most recently, she also landed her first leading film role in Hannah Pearl Utt’s indie comedy-drama Cora Bora.

Now the 32-year-old comedian and actress is putting down roots in the hip Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, having doled out just under $2 million for some midcentury-modern digs with both an architectural and a celebrity pedigree.

Records show Stalter paid slightly over asking price for her recently acquired property, which was originally built and designed by noted University of Southern California-trained architect Ray Otero in the mid-1960s for a member of trumpeter Herb Alpert’s Tijuana Brass band. Last sold back in 2001 for $515,000, and tastefully updated in the years since, the boxy white structure is notched into a sloped hillside parcel spanning less than a quarter-acre of land, and fronted by a gated driveway that opens to a covered parking area with room for two vehicles.

The living room boasts a wood-burning fireplace and sliding glass doors that open to a balcony providing eye-catching vistas.

Reached via a steep staircase, the lofty home offers three bedrooms and two baths in almost 1,400 square feet two-level living space adorned throughout with high ceilings, the original wood paneling and even central air-conditioning. Walls of glass offer up picturesque hillside and city lights views, with the open-concept floor plan highlighted by a taupe-hued living room displaying a wood-burning fireplace with a stove-pipe chimney, and sliding glass doors spilling out to a balcony on one side and an enclosed al fresco dining patio on the other.

An adjacent window-lined dining area connects to the galley-style kitchen, which is outfitted with quartz countertops, a light-gray subway tile backsplash and newer stainless appliances, including a Bosch dishwasher. There’s also an inviting primary bedroom sporting a stylish bath equipped with dual vanities and a glassy shower, plus another bedroom that doubles as an office space.

Only helmed as of now by three owners during its nearly 60-year history, the property was listed by Tracy Do and Victor Montecinos of Coldwell Banker Realty. Kerry Kimble of The Agency repped Stalter.

A Pizza Mogul’s $34 Million Beverly Park Mansion Sells to a Prominent Surgeon

After first putting his Beverly Hills-adjacent home up for sale at the beginning of this year, pizza pie tycoon Larry Flax and his wife Joni have successfully unloaded the elaborate spread, complete with its healthy extra helping of custom ingredients, for $34.4 million. While that’s significantly less than the California Pizza Kitchen cofounder’s original $48.5 million asking price, it’s still a very impressive number for the guarded Beverly Park enclave, arguably the most desirable gated community in Los Angeles.

Records confirm the spendy buyer is an entity tied to Dr. Bardia Anvar, a Beverly Hills-based general surgeon and founder of the national surgical-based Skilled Wound Care chain, and his wife Tania Pourat, a dentist. Anvar and Pourat, who also own a custom-built home in the Beverly Hills Flats neighborhood, now hold title to a 14,000-square-foot Beverly Park manor sporting seven bedrooms and some 12 bathrooms.

Completed in 1994, and tucked away behind gates and a circular motorcourt embellished with a tiered fountain, the property includes a French chateau-inspired main house and detached guesthouse spread across a 2.8-acre parcel of lushly landscaped land.

Wrought-iron and wood-trimmed doors open into a limestone-clad foyer, which displays a sweeping staircase and gold-leaf dome boasting a marbled alabaster skylight. From there, the formal living room has a glass-encased entertaining area and floor-to-ceiling French doors spilling out to a covered loggia with a fireplace, plus a 20-seat dining room adorned with a coved ceiling and hand-painted wall paneling flanked by a china room with plenty of felt-lined storage space.

The house offers walls of glass overlooking the lush grounds.

    Adrian Van Anz

And that’s not even the topping on this proverbial real estate pizza! There’s also a limestone-bathed family room with its own marble fireplace and wet bar, connecting via pocket doors to a gourmet kitchen outfitted with a wraparound granite island, commercial-grade appliances, a butler’s pantry and fireside dining area overlooking an 1,800-bottle wine cellar.

Other highlights include a wood-paneled library and glass conservatory topped by a Murano glass chandelier, along with a sumptuous upstairs master retreat that comes complete with a separate seating area with fireplace, kitchenette and private balcony, as well as dual bathroom suites equipped with walk-in closets, a soaking tub, fireplace and an office. Also on tap is a movie theater with a velvet stage curtain.

Outside, the rigidly manicured grounds feature rose gardens, a big grassy lawn, a full-size tennis court and meandering pathways. Spacious patios provide plenty of opportunities for al fresco lounging and entertaining, and there’s a 70-foot swimmer’s pool with a spa serviced by an outdoor kitchen and built-in BBQ.

Rounding it all out is garaging for five cars, and monthly HOA dues of nearly $5,200 just for the privilege of calling the exclusive community home. Some of the nearest neighbors include Adele, Denzel Washington, Sofia Vergara, Rod Stewart and Eddie Murphy.

This is hardly Dr. Anvar’s first brush with celebrity. Less than two years ago, he paid $10.3 million for the oceanfront Malibu home of actor Leo DiCaprio. As for Flax, he’s moved on to a $12.5 million condo at the Century, one of L.A.’s most prestigious residential skyscrapers.

Jade Mills of Coldwell Banker and Linda May of Carolwood Estates repped both Flax and Anvar in the Beverly Park transaction.

Kris Kristofferson’s Sprawling Northern California Ranch Hits the Market for $17.2 Million

Country superstar Kris Kristofferson has placed his Northern California ranch of almost 40 years on the market. Nestled on 557 lush acres outside of Elk, about three hours north of San Francisco, the retired singer-songwriter recently listed the sprawling oceanfront compound for a cool $17.2 million, The Wall Street Journal first reported.

Kristofferson originally bought the ranch in 1980 and, over the decades since, has leased a good chunk of the land for cattle grazing, which shouldn’t really come as a surprise. He is a Texas native, after all.

    Anthony Wells/Mendo Sotheby’s International Realty

“The ranch has always been a place of creativity and inspiration,” the A Star Is Born actor told the newspaper. Dating back to the 1800s, the legacy ranch began as a dairy farm and still includes some of the original structures. In addition to the 2,400-square-foot barn that Kristofferson and his wife used as a vacation house, there is also a 1,900-square-foot ranch house, a dairy barn, and a feed barn, all of which are in need of a little TLC.

Listed for $17.2 million, the compound includes original buildings from its beginnings as a dairy farm

    Anthony Wells/Mendo Sotheby’s International Realty

As it stands, the property features 300 acres of open pasture and approximately 250 acres of forestland that are dotted with old-growth redwood and fir trees. Offering up a mile of Pacific Ocean frontage, the property sits right below Devils Basin. Given the scale and location, there’s a possibility that the land could be subdivided or even expanded upon. “I grew up here, and this property, in a lot of ways, is steeped in history,” Justin Nadeau of Mendo Sotheby’s International Realty told the WSJ. “Nobody has seen a property like this one come to market.”

The property measures over 550 acres

Kristofferson and his wife still own another home in Hawaii, on Maui, which has become their main residence. As for the ranch, Nadeau added at the time of the listing that the couple feels like “it’s time to let it go and move on.”

John Fogerty’s Massive SoCal Estate Hits the Market for $20 Million

John Fogerty is selling his California compound down on the corner for $20 million.

The Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman is parting ways with his longtime Thousand Oaks estate after a decade of ownership, TMZ first reported. Dubbed White Stallion Ranch, the 22-acre spread is nestled within the gated Hidden Valley community. In 2013, the “Bad Moon Rising” singer shelled out roughly $9 million for the 18,600-square-foot residence, which was originally built in 2004 by architect Ron Firestone. However, the palatial pad has since benefitted from a massive renovation.

John Fogerty’s California estate is on the market for $19.9 million

    Re/Max One

At the heart of the property is a Tuscan-style farmhouse, complete with nine bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. Throughout the mostly single-story abode you’ll find cathedral ceilings, hardwood floors, and stone accents—including a fireplace in the great room. Though, there are a few high-tech features such as motorized window treatments and smart home controls. Nearby, the kitchen is decked out with glossy marble countertops, custom cabinets, top-of-the-line appliances, and a huge center island.

As one might expect, the multi-platinum music legend had two state-of-the-art soundproof recording studios installed. Here, you can belt out your best “Proud Mary” or practice your guitar skills. Of course, there are a slew of other perks as well, including two separate movie theaters, a gym, a wellness center, and a bar room equipped with climate-controlled wine walls. If you plan on playing host, the compound also comes with a detached guest house.

Outside, walking paths allow guests to wander around the landscaped grounds, which have been covered in drought-tolerant turf. Although, the sweeping mountain and Pacific Ocean views are probably best enjoyed from any of the terraces. Elsewhere, there are plenty of alfresco spaces to kick back and relax. Think a poolside covered patio with a fire pit and outdoor kitchen. The manse also has a sports court, if you’re more of the active type. Either way, you could be the fortunate one to call this place home.

Jordan Cohen of Re/Max One holds the listing.

Moroccan-born rapper French Montana, born Karim Kharbouch, is saying goodbye to his Los Angeles home.

The “Unforgettable” artist first purchased the home in late 2020 from basketball player Paul George, a forward on the Los Angeles Clippers, for $8.4 million, and is now spinning off the home for a whopping $22.75 million. The home is located in the exclusive guard-gated enclave called Ashley Ridge, part of the glitzy, celebrity-filled Hidden Hills community. It’s sited on a 1.5-acre parcel of land, and you’re welcomed in via a private circular driveway with lush, manicured landscaping and towering mature trees with leafy canopies. The residence spans 16,000 square feet and has seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms, ideal for those who love to entertain or those with a large family.

The custom-built estate features bespoke wooden ceilings and oak beams, limestone floors, grand skylights, custom lighting, carved wooden doors, and marble fireplaces. No detail or expense was spared when it came to materiality. There are also floor-to-ceiling windows and custom glass sliding doors that overlook the pastoral grounds and welcome in plenty of natural light. There’s a spacious chef’s kitchen, which feels bright and airy thanks to vaulted beamed ceilings and open skylights. The home has a minimalist, natural aesthetic with indoor greenery at every turn.

The heart of the home is the 4,000-square-foot great room with vaulted wooden ceilings, motorized skylights, sliding glass doors that open to the backyard, a bar, and two large living areas with fireplaces. The primary suite is also of note and occupies a wing of the house. There are vaulted wooden ceilings, a two-sided fireplace, a lounge with a kitchenette, massive walk-in closet, and a spa-like bathroom with a built-in sofa near the glass-enclosed shower and soaking tub.

Amenities include a movie theater, gym, steam shower, wrapping room, bonus room, library, walk-in wine cellar, outdoor kitchen, custom barbecue, fire pit, fountains, five-car garage, RV storage space, and a full-size basketball court. The outdoor areas are resort-like with a pool and spa, stone deck, incredible landscaping, and an outdoor entertainment area with a music and TV center. There  are also fruit and shade trees located throughout the property.
