in LuxuryEllen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi recently added yet another multimillion-dollar property to their real estate portfolio—and this time, it set a record. The couple’s newest California compound cost them a whopping $70 million, making it the most expensive deal in the history of Santa Barbara County.
DeGeneres and de Rossi’s side-by-side properties sit atop an oceanside bluff in Carpinteria and total about 10 acres. The two adjacent parcels are divided into a three-and-a-half-acre Tuscan-inspired farmhouse and a larger landscaped lot with open lawns and a small lake, reported Dirt. Together they dropped $41.7 million on the mansion and another $28.2 million on the mostly vacant land next door. The compound also includes its own private trail that leads to the beach down below.
The opportunity to scoop these up comes from seller and retired hedge fund manager Bruce Kovner, who put his 22-acre oceanfront site on the market. Known as the Sanctuary at Loon Point, the property consists of two homes and three lots of land on Padaro Lane. DeGeneres and de Rossi now own one of those abodes, plus a parcel.

Their stone-clad estate has five bedrooms and eight bathrooms spread across three levels and an impressive 9,066 square feet. Given its Italian influence, there are stone archways, exposed wood-beam ceilings, marble detailing and mosaic tiling throughout. Of course, the pad also has custom copper gutters and bronze windows and doors that were imported from Italy, reported Architectural Digest. Outside, there are Renaissance-style statues and olive trees akin to what you’d see in Tuscany and the roof has been constructed from terracotta.
Elsewhere, the great room is outfitted with a massive antique marble fireplace, and nearby, the chef’s kitchen has been decked out with state-of-the-art appliances, dual butler pantries and a large center island. There’s also a wine cellar and a swanky movie theater with leather recliners on the first floor. Upstairs, the primary suite sports two walk-in closets and a private spa terrace that overlooks the grounds. Speaking of which, the compound comes with a marble and mosaic-tile swimming pool, an outdoor kitchen and raised garden beds. In terms of entertainment, we’re sure DeGeneres and de Rossi will put the extra spa, several fire pits and a few alfresco dining areas to good use. More

in LuxurySome things Mark Wahlberg enjoys the most: playing golf, shooting hoops and stepping into the boxing ring. His former Beverly Hills estate offers all three, and now it can be yours.
The actor’s one-time California mansion has hit the market for $28.5 million, and the palatial pad is definitely fit for a movie star. Set on nearly two acres, it offers up a gigantic main house, a two-story guest home, an outdoor basketball court, a putting green and a two-level gym with its own boxing ring—just in case you wanted to channel Wahlberg’s character from The Fighter.
The Departed star bought the abode in the coveted 90210 zip code back in 2001 and later sold it in 2013, according to the The Wall Street Journal. The main house was originally built in 1984. The residence was scooped up in 2018 by current owner Don Rufus Hankey, who spent the better part of four years renovating the property. Some of the recent updates include brand-new floors and appliances; improvements were also made to the existing stonework and landscaping. The manse now features an outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven, smart technology throughout and bi-fold windows for prime canyon views.

“On top of being a gorgeous remodel with all of the bells and whistles including a resort-style pool and grotto, a huge movie theater and full sports court, I can honestly say that I’ve never seen a property in Beverly Hills that offers a stand-alone 2,300-square-foot gym with a full boxing ring,” says Compass agent Myles Lewis in a press statement. Lewis holds the listing with Don’s wife, Skye Hankey, a real-estate agent at Premier Realty Services.

Inside the 9,000-square-foot main house, you’ll find five bedrooms and eight bathrooms. The living areas offer up long walls of glass and soaring high ceilings, while white oak wire-brushed wood floors give the interiors a farmhouse feel. The chef’s kitchen has been decked out with Wolf and SubZero appliances, along with marble countertops and temperature-controlled wine storage. Elsewhere, a home theater is equipped with a 136-inch screen, a wet bar and a wood-burning fireplace.
As for the manicured grounds, honestly, they read more like a waterpark. A large swimming pool, a grotto and a waterslide especially fit the bill. To top it off, the property includes over 1,000 feet of deck space, a motor court, a fire pit and a three-car garage. “Calling it ‘uniquely luxurious’ doesn’t even do it justice,” adds Lewis.

in LuxuryFrom a futuristic Richard Neutra compound in La Crescenta to a tropic-themed Malibu cottage, the Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea has racked up quite the real estate portfolio. Now, another one of his former California properties has hit the market and it’s chock full of Art Nouveau style and the musician’s personal flair.
Nicknamed The Castle, the striking two-acre spread is nestled in the hills of the Los Feliz neighborhood. Originally designed in the ‘20s by Angelus Temple architect A.F. Leicht, the Los Angeles abode comprises four bedrooms, four bathrooms and roughly 5,600 square feet of living space. Michael Balzary (aka Flea) bought the manse for $1.7 million back in 1996 and later sold it for $3 million in 1999 to late Getty oil heir, John Gilbert Getty, reported The Wall Street Journal. The Castle changed hands yet again in 2014 when current owner and artist, Muna El Fituri, scooped it up for $8.3 million.

Per Balzary’s request, the property now has a recording in the two-story, detached garage (which the rocker surely put to good use). The grounds also come with lush gardens and a basketball court out back painted the purple of Flea’s beloved Lakers. Inside, the architectural estate is laden with Egyptian and Moroccan influences. Think large geometric pillars, arched passageways, hand-cut stone walls and curved gold-colored ceilings. In fact, step into the two-story formal living room and you’ll find ornate trim that’s supposed to resemble the Sistine Chapel, notes the WSJ.

Elsewhere, an elegant octagonal-shaped lounge area is swathed in gold as well. Seriously, it covers every wall. In the foyer, there are soaring 26-foot-high ceilings, a dramatic stone staircase and a grand chandelier at the center. If you’re into rare and ultra-cool perks, check out the observation tower. It’s complete with its own rooftop terrace where you can catch uninterrupted views of downtown Los Angeles, the Pacific Ocean and beyond. If you want a shot at owning The Castle, it’ll cost you a cool $9.8 million.
Ernie Carswell with Douglas Elliman and Steve Sawaii and Daria Greenbaum of Compass hold the listing together.
