      A Celebrity Hairstylist’s Stylish Manhattan Apartment Is Up for Grabs

      Less than six months after John Barrett died from blood cancer at age 66, the beloved hairstylist and salon owner’s Upper West Side apartment has popped up for sale, asking just under $2 million. Per Curbed New York, which first reported the listing, Barrett acquired the double unit from Emmy-winning composer Peter Fish and his wife Diane Singer for $1.8 million back in 2013.

      A legendary hairdresser best known for creating bespoke tresses for famous clients such as Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell, Reese Witherspoon, Katie Holmes, Martha Stewart, Ethel Kennedy, Hillary Clinton and Princess Diana, the Ireland native operated a salon space on the penthouse level of the Bergdorf Goodman department store, where he invented his signature “Bergdorf Blonde” hair color.

      Sited within the 12-story, pre-war Parc Vendrome residential building—and featured in a 2019 Architectural Digest article—Barrett’s former home rests on the 10th floor, and has two bedrooms and an equal number of baths in a little more than 1,650 square feet of open-concept living space outfitted with wide-plank hardwood floors, high ceilings, custom light fixtures, plenty of wall space for art and a sound system.

      Highlights include an entry hallway that leads to a spacious living room boasting eight casement windows offering south-facing views of the Midtown skyline. An adjacent dining area connects to a professional chef’s kitchen equipped with white lacquer cabinetry, Carrara marble countertops and a matching backsplash, top-tier appliances and access to an al fresco dining terrace.

      Elsewhere is a cozy library nook flaunting built-in bookcases painted an eye-catching shade of lime green, plus a music alcove that comes complete with a grand piano Barrett acquired during a furnishings auction at the original Tavern on the Green. The primary bedroom hosts a large walk-in closet, as well as a luxe bath equipped with an extra-deep soaking tub and separate rain shower, and another en-suite guest bedroom has a built-in daybed.

      The new owner also will be privy to plenty of amenities courtesy of a $3,214 monthly common charge fee, including a 24/7 doorman, formal gardens, a roof deck, and billiards, music and banquet rooms.

      According to The New York Times, Barrett left Bergdorf in 2019 after more than two decades to open his own salon on East 57th Street; and though the Covid-19 pandemic hit the industry especially hard, and he was forced to declare bankruptcy, he emerged quickly without having to lay off any of his employees.

      Despite his declining health, he went on to cut hair for the likes of Martha Stewart, who decided to drop by his salon for a pick-me-up after her flight to Britain was canceled. “I used the newly found time to get a manicure pedicure by Luda and a haircut by the maestro himself,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “The new do is refreshing and lovely! Thanks John!!!”

      Norman Reedus Is Asking $3.8 Million for His Frank Lloyd Wright-Inspired Georgia Retreat

      Norman Reedus won’t be treading on Georgia turf much longer, because the “crossbow wielding, motorcycle driving badass with a heart of gold” is officially stepping away from his longtime residence on the outskirts of Atlanta.

      After eight years of ownership, and a brief stint on the rental market at $12,500 per month, The Walking Dead star has now adhered a $3.8 million price tag to the contemporary Chattahoochee Hills spread he picked up back in fall 2015 for nearly $3 million. Built in 2009, and crafted by noted New York City-based designer Shamir Shah, the Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired home is described by listing agent Addie Bartlett of Compass as offering “an unparalleled experience of refined living in an environment where simplicity is synonymous with luxury.”

      Nestled amid a heavily wooded parcel spanning a quarter of an acre—within the master-planned community of Serenbe, about 30 miles southwest of downtown Atlanta—the striking limestone and granite structure has four bedrooms and five baths in a little more than 4,100 square feet of multi-level living space boasting wide-plank white oak floors, high ceilings and large windows throughout. There’s also a bath-equipped bonus room over the attached two-car garage.

      The 2009-built home was inspired by the work of noted architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

      A lengthy driveway empties out at the house, with the front door pivoting into a main level highlighted by a spacious living room outfitted with a wall of windows and trio of glass doors spilling out to a screened porch warmed by a stone fireplace. Other highlights include a cozy fireside sitting room, dining room with a built-in buffet, and gourmet kitchen sporting an eat-in island topped with natural quartzite stone, top-tier Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances, two sinks, a wine fridge and walk-in pantry.

      A pair of guest bedrooms also can be found on the bottom level, while an upstairs primary suite holds a massive walk-in closet and dressing area, as well as a marble-clad bath equipped with dual vanities, a soaking tub and glass-encased shower.       Outdoors, the woodsy grounds host a meandering creek, an al fresco dining area bolstered by a grilling station, and plunge pool that doubles as a spa. The new homeowner also will have access to Serenbe’s vast array of amenities, which include a swim club, tennis courts, stables and 16 miles of nature trails.

      Before the 55-year-old Florida native rose to fame for his role as Daryl Dixon on AMC’s post-apocalyptic zombie drama The Walking Dead, which aired its final episode in November 2022, he headlined the cult classic The Boondock Saints, and had supporting roles in 8MM, Blade 2 and American Gangster. Reedus—who earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2022—is currently appearing in a Daryl Dixon spinoff, with the second season set to air later this year.

      In addition to the for-sale Georgia house, Reedus and his actress partner Diane Kruger own at least three N.Y.C. residences between them, including a four-bedroom, 3,650-square-foot townhouse in Manhattan. Reedus also maintains a big spread in upstate New York that’s currently occupied by his mother.

      A Mining Billionaire Quietly Dropped $47 Million on an Oceanfront Santa Barbara Mansion

      Although the secretive deal actually went down last September, it’s only now come to light that billionaire Ivanhoe Mines magnate Robert Friedland and his longtime wife Darlene have very quietly paid a hair under $47 million for an oceanfront estate in the seaside California town of Carpinteria. The deal was far and away the biggest residential real estate transaction recorded in Santa Barbara County in 2023.

      The home’s lucky sellers were Darren Entwistle, the controversial and longtime CEO of Canadian telecommunications giant Telus, and his wife Fiona. The Entwistles had placed the house on the market in the summer of 2022, asking a whopping $55 million, but delisted the property several months later. The $47 million transfer was inked off-market. The Canada-based couple originally acquired the estate in 2012 as a vacation home, paying $17 million.

      The $47 million deal for the 2-acre estate represents one of the largest sums ever paid for a Carpinteria home.

      Originally designed in the early 1990s by noted architect Robert L. Earl, the East Coast-inspired residence was extensively renovated by architect Andy Neumann and original builder Paul Franz in 2012. The six-bedroom, eight-bath main house features nearly 10,000 square feet of living space. Additional structures include an 800-square-foot guesthouse with one bedroom and a full bath, plus a garage building with room for three cars, plus a gym with an infrared sauna.

      Hidden away behind a long gated driveway flanked by manicured lawns dotted with reflecting ponds, on an almost 2-acre blufftop parcel sited just west of Loon Point, the white-shingled and gable-roof main house is shaded by magnolia trees and fronted by a cobblestone motorcourt. Inside, ornate interiors are studded with coffered ceilings, rich hardwood floors, Murano glass light fixtures and numerous sets of French doors that spill out to the gardens.

      Other highlights include a double-height foyer anchored by a dazzling chandelier and curvy wrought-iron staircase, formal living and dining rooms, and a mahogany-paneled office with a fireplace surrounded by a jade green marble mantle. A cozy family room connects to an all-white gourmet kitchen outfitted with marble slab countertops, an eat-in island and high-end stainless appliances, as well as an accompanying butler’s pantry and breakfast nook.

      Upstairs, the plush master retreat rests beneath an eye-catching recessed ceiling, and offers a fireside sitting area, covered balcony, and dual baths and walk-in closets. Five additional ensuite bedrooms are scattered throughout the house, including one with a private games room. Elsewhere are a wine cellar and an additional private office.

      The posh amenities continue outdoors, where the exquisitely manicured and picturesque Sydney Baumgartner-landscaped grounds host several areas ideal for al fresco lounging and entertaining. An added bonus: direct beach access and a viewing platform accessible via a private stone pathway.

      It’s also worth noting that the property is located on the most prestigious street in Carpinteria, where other neighboring homes are owned by the likes of Kevin Costner, Kourtney Kardashian, George Lucas, and Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis.

      The Friedlands own many other homes, including two side-by-side estates in prime Beverly Hills that they purchased for $26 million in 2021. In late 2020, they paid $16 million for Zsa Zsa Gabor’s longtime Bel Air mansion, which the couple has since demolished.

      Locksley Hall in California’s Belvedere neighborhood, which Robert Friedlend sold in 2015 for a record $47.5 million to former Facebook executive Matt Cohler.

      But nice as all those properties are, they rather pale in comparison to the Friedlands’ former home up in Northern California’s San Francisco Bay Area. In 2015, that historic hilltop property — known as Locksley Hall — was sold for a record-breaking $47.5 million to venture capitalist Matt Cohler, one of Facebook’s first five employees and an early investor in Instagram.

      Internationally, the Friedlands also continue to maintain a dramatic blufftop villa in Phuket, Thailand, that has no fewer than three infinity pools, though their main residence remains a luxury flat in Singapore. More

      A Nutritionist to the Royals Puts Her Glam U.K. Townhouse Up for Sale

      After nearly 14  years of ownership, Czech-born model-turned-health guru Gabriela Peacock has decided to return her U.K. mansion designed in the 1850s by noted architect William Radford back to the market.

      The “nutritionist that everyone wants on speed dial”—who is known for an A-list clientele that has included the likes of Prince Harry, princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, James Blunt and Dame Joan Collins—is looking to sell the stylish residence in the heart of Notting Hill for around $27 million, as first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

      Records show the founder of GP Nutrition and her hedge-funder husband David Peacock purchased the Victorian-style dwelling for £13 million in 2010 as newlyweds, after marrying on Lake Como. They spent the next two-and-a-half years extensively renovating the dated interiors, which included tacking on a basement level replete with an office and entertainment room, plus a gym, wine cellar, family room, guest bedroom, and staff wing with its own bedroom and kitchen.

      The 1800s townhouse underwent a full modernization at the hands of its current owners.

      Billed in marketing materials as “the perfect blend of period features and modern interventions”—and resting amid one of the neighborhood’s prime tree-lined streets, within walking distance of the shops and restaurants of Westbourne Grove, and less than a mile from Hyde Park—the detached five-story property offers gated parking for two vehicles out front, and features seven bedrooms and five bathrooms in a little more than 6,500 square feet of living space.

      Highlights include a raised ground-level entrance hall adorned with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the rear patio and garden, along with a double reception room ideal for entertaining. The garden level hosts a combination dining/living area spotlighted by folding glass doors spilling outside, as well as a gourmet kitchen outfitted with an eat-in island and top-tier stainless appliances. A plush master retreat occupying the entire first floor comes complete with a private balcony, walk-in dressing area and luxe bath, while four more bedrooms can be found on the top level.

      Per WSJ, the Peacocks are selling because they want to move to the countryside. The listing is held by Marcus O’Brien and Dan Martin of United Kingdom Sotheby’s International Realty.

      Steve Wynn Relists Palatial Beverly Hills Mansion at a ‘Discounted’ $75 Million

      Steve Wynn just can’t seem to catch a break on either coast. Last month, the legally blind octogenarian casino tycoon yanked his posh New York City penthouse off the market, despite having slashed the asking price from $90 million all the way down to a heavily discounted $65 million. Wynn paid a staggering $70 million for the Ritz-Carlton duplex more than a decade ago and was therefore willing to lose millions on the deal, but still a buyer failed to surface.

      Things aren’t going any better in California, where Wynn recently placed his uncommonly lavish Beverly Hills mega-mansion back on the market, asking $75 million. He bought the 2.7-acre estate about five years ago, in summer 2015, paying about $48 million for the premises after a much-publicized, years-long search for an L.A. home. The sumptuous spread subsequently underwent a multimillion-dollar remodel that involved all-new landscaping and updated interiors.

      In early 2020, Wynn debuted the palatial property on the market, asking $135 million. Four years later, the house remains unsold and the ask has precipitously dropped by an eye-popping $60 million—a 44% nosedive from what the 82-year-old originally wanted.

      Originally offered at $135 million, Wynn’s 90210 mega-estate is now listed at a heavily discounted $75 million.

      Today, the International-style mansion spans about 27,000 square feet of living space. Built by Guess co-founder Maurice Marciano in the early 1990s, with architecture by William Hablinski, the house offers 10 bedrooms, 16 bathrooms and an elevator to assist in navigating the mammoth structure. There’s a professional screening room with stadium-style seating, a gym, wine room, four family/guest bedroom suites and a lavish master with dual bathrooms, closets, dressing rooms and a private office.

      An estate of this magnitude requires a full-time staff, so the main house also offers separate staff wings—one with three bedrooms and a kitchen for the domestic help, another with an additional three bedrooms and kitchenette for a private security team.

      Other amenities include a decadent living room with views of the city lights, a formal dining room with fireplace, and a “reception” room with crimson-red walls and a convenient wet bar. Outside, there are formal gardens, manicured hedgerows and a carefully curated assortment of mature trees. There’s also a lighted tennis court with an air-conditioned seating house and kitchenette. Elsewhere, a rectangular swimming pool is tucked into a private corner of the lot, directly beside a convenient pool house with another kitchenette and changing facilities. Wynn’s park-like landscaping was designed by Robert Truskowski; the interior decor is by Roger Thomas of Wynn Resorts.

      Even if Wynn were to suddenly get lucky and sell both his Beverly Hills estate and New York penthouse tomorrow, he still owns at least two other lavish homes—in Idaho’s scenic winter resort community of Sun Valley, Wynn has a 25,000 sq. ft. mega-compound of a ski chalet. And in 2019, the billionaire paid about $43 million for an oceanfront estate on Florida’s perennially fashionable Palm Beach.

      Wynn’s priciest home, however, is his floating “mansion” Aquarius—a 302-foot, $215 million superyacht with a helicopter landing pad, a beauty salon and a 30-person crew. More

      Haylie Duff Is Seeking $3.2 Million for Her Santa Barbara-Style Home in Texas

      A little over three years ago, during the pandemic, Haylie Duff ditched the bright lights of Hollywood and acquired a new residence in her home state of Texas. The actress and singer recently told People that she and her longtime partner Matt Rosenberg and their two daughters had wanted to “take a chance and do something really different.”

      But that was then! Now Duff has changed her mind and is hoisting her Santa Barbara-style home about 20 minutes northwest of downtown Austin back on the market, asking $3.2 million—or almost $2 million more than the place was originally listed for back in October 2020. But she still maintains a foothold in the area, having purchased and renovated a lakeside vacation house less than a mile away.

      After Two Years, an Heiress’s Bel Air Mansion Finally Sells to a Fashion Entrepreneur

      After a little more than two years and a couple of substantial price chops, media heiress and former actress Taylor Thomson has finally managed to unload her longtime Bel Air home for $27 million in an off-market deal. And though that’s far less than the member of one of Canada’s wealthiest families originally wanted, it’s still a whopping $19.6 million more than she paid for the place some 23 years ago.

      Records indicate the discount-minded buyers who bought the English Tudor-style estate are digital entrepreneur Katherine Power and her husband, celebrity photographer Justin Coit. A cofounder of the Los Angeles-based fashion and shopping website Who What Wear—which was acquired by the British media company Future for an undisclosed sum in 2022—Power served as CEO of parent company Clique Brands for several years. She now operates the beauty brands Merit and Versed, and also owns the organic wine brand Avaline with actress Cameron Diaz. 

      As for the pair’s new digs, they were constructed and designed way back in 1926 by noted Hoover Dam architect Gordon Kaufmann. One of the first homes ever built in Bel Air, the premises underwent an expensive renovation and restoration by Thomson during her lengthy tenure.

      Resting on a prime street, amid an acre-plus parcel dotted by mature sycamore and redwood trees, the property features a six-bedroom main house boasting nearly 9,000 square feet of living space punctuated throughout with colorful tile, vintage light fixtures, metal window frames, arched doorways and soaring wood-beam ceilings. She’s a member of the Thomson family, which has amassed a collective fortune of about $44 billion as stewards of a media empire founded by her grandfather Roy Thomson; their biggest asset is Woodbridge, a holding company with a controlling stake in Thomson Reuters.

      In addition to her just-sold Bel Air property, Thomson still maintains a multimillion-dollar real estate portfolio that includes a Santa Monica compound that had a starring role in Beverly Hills Cop and an 1880s mansion once owned by Gordon Lightfoot in Toronto’s pricey Bridle Path neighborhood, where one of her nearest neighbors is Drake. Power and Coit still lay claim to a 1920s Spanish-Colonial residence in the Little Holmby neighborhood of L.A. they picked up for $4.2 million in 2015 that has since been revamped and showcased in Architectural Digest.

      Marshmello Spins Out of His $15 Million Beverly Hills Mansion

      Chris Comstock is only 31 years old, but the Philadelphia native is already cashing in big, having sold his lavish mansion in the mountains above Beverly Hills for exactly $15 million in an off-market deal. That’s way more than the $10.8 million Comstock—better known to his millions of EDM fans as Marshmello, the bucket-hat wearing DJ—paid for the place less than four years ago, back in summer 2020. The all-cash buyers, according to tax records, are Hovig and Annie Safoian—the married co-founders of cloud solutions provider SADA Systems. SADA, long a family-owned company, was recently acquired in a landmark deal valued at approximately $800 million.

      It’s been a nonstop party since 2015 for Comstock and his chewily sweet alter-ego, which established itself as one of the world’s top electronic music acts seemingly overnight. Behind the slickly produced hit records (“Silence,” “Wolves,” “Friends,” “Alone”) and the omnipresent smiley bucket head is Marshmello’s well-oiled marketing dream team; his hard-charging manager Moe Shalizi is often credited for the speedy creation of the Marshmello brand, and networking has helped, too—early shoutouts from other big-name EDM acts like Skrillex and Tiesto proved invaluable to his early success.

      The former Marshmello house is located in Mulholland Estates, a guard-gated community where other residents include Kendall Jenner, Paris Hilton and Christina Aguilera.

      Built in 1992 and designed by Richard Landry—the celebrity-favored architect who frequently puts the “extra” in extravagant—the stylistically opaque house boasts interiors by celebrity designer Jeff Lewis, who was hired to right previous decor wrongs. The blindingly white result has more than a subtle Miami vibe.

      While the house itself is not gated, the property lies within a 24/7 guarded community with frequent patrols and a plethora of security cameras. Glass front doors open into a double-height foyer with marble floors. Flanking the foyer are a fireplace-equipped living room and a dining room with dual chandeliers. Just beyond lies an eat-in kitchen with dual islands and all the expected top-of-the-line stainless appliances.

      There’s also a library/office and a family room that opens, via French doors, to a sprawling back patio. Upstairs are four ensuite bedrooms, including a jazzed-up master with its own kitchenette, plus spa-style bath and dual closets. The nearly 8,000-square-foot mansion also boasts a finished basement level; a lounge/entertainment center with a snazzy wet bar await downstairs. Out back, the hillside lot is steep but nicely terraced with adequate patches of grassy lawn and concrete terraces for al fresco dining.
