Madonna’s Former Hollywood Hills Manse Just Hit the Market for $21 Million

A pedigreed property in the Hollywood Hills where Madonna used to reside has just hit the market, and the digs are just as eccentric as the Queen of Pop herself.

Known as Castillo del Lago, the singer’s former manse is listed for a cool $21 million, offered up by the current owner, fashion designer Leon Max, The Wall Street Journal first reported. The Material Girl picked up the abode back in 1993, but she ultimately sold it shortly after in 1996. Originally designed in the ‘20s by renowned architect John DeLario, the Spanish-style estate is believed to be among the first homes to be built in Los Angeles. It’s also where 1930s mobster Bugsy Siegel set up a gambling den and several scenes of Beverly Hills Cop were filmed.

Now considered a local landmark, the residence sits at the top of a scenic ridge. It comprises two towers, each of which offers a bird’s eye view of the iconic Hollywood sign. (Seriously, you can’t miss it.) Sited on a three-acre lot, the castle-like spread is surrounded by lush lawns, rose gardens, citrus trees and fountains galore. The grounds also sport a sparkling lap pool, an outdoor fireplace, a two-car garage and a dreamy central courtyard that’s covered in wisteria.

Originally designed by architect John DeLario, the formal dining room has a honeycomb ceiling

Measuring an impressive 10,513 square feet, the spread includes nine bedrooms and six baths. Internally, there are a ton of old-world architectural details. Think coffered ceilings, terra-cotta flooring, intricate tilework, sculpted archways and wrought iron accents throughout. A vintage, wood-paneled elevator and library are among the home’s most notable features.

In the formal dining room, you’ll find a striking, geometric ceiling that resembles golden honeycombs. Elsewhere, the primary suite has its own dedicated wing which encompasses multiple sitting areas and dual baths. Of course, if you’re in it for the perks, a media room, a wine cellar and a separate gym are among some of the amenities.

According to WSJ, Max is shopping the prized pad around because he’s headed across the pond to England. Though we imagine he’ll have a hard time leaving this place behind.

Baseball Great David Ortiz’s Miami Mansion Hits the Market for $12.5 Million

While David Ortiz’s MLB career might be over, Big Papi is still taking big swings—the latest being the massive Miami manse he built.

The former Boston Red Sox slugger has hoisted his home in South Florida’s Pinecrest neighborhood onto the market and for $12.5 million. According to records, the American League All-Star originally bought the one-acre lot back in 2016, the same year he announced his retirement. He then custom-built an uber-modern estate in 2019 and had it decked out with its own state-of-the-art movie theater, an elevator and, wait for it, a sports bar with enough space to mount nine TVs.

David “Big Papi” Ortiz is selling his Miami mansion for $12.5 million

1 OAK Studios / ONE Sotheby’s International Realty

Altogether, the spread measures a whopping 10,200 square feet and includes five bedrooms and eight bathrooms across two stories. Outdoors, you’ll find a sparkling swimming pool, a spa, shower and summer kitchen. The tropical grounds are also dotted with multiple fire pits that you can cozy up next to, a gazebo, lush greenery and a reflecting pool.

Internally, giant full-length windows and soaring high ceilings bring in a ton of extra sun making the whole space feel bright and airy. From the looks of it, it’s clear that the superstar athlete liked to entertain. There are two different living areas to kick back in, an expansive dining room, plus a great room. Naturally, the kitchen has plenty of space to prep for guests with dual refrigerators, a large center island and a walk-in pantry.

The primary suite has a hidden TV that drops down from the ceiling

1 OAK Studios / ONE Sotheby’s International Realty

Of course, the primary suite is as impressive as the rest of the property, if not more, outfitted with its own sitting area, spa bath, soaking tub and 16-foot shower. Considering there was nowhere to put the TV that wouldn’t interrupt the views, Big Papi decided to install a hidden screen that unfolds straight from the ceiling instead. Pretty clever, huh?

F1 Champ Jenson Button’s Palm Springs Estate Just Hit the Market for $2.5 Million

Buyers, start your engines: The race to own Jenson Button’s Palm Springs pad is on.

The Formula 1 driver, who famously won the world championship in 2009, is zipping out of his California desert retreat so you can drive on in. The Englishman and his wife, Brittny, bought the Spanish-Colonial residence roughly a year ago. However, they now own a second vacation rental in the area, which is why they’ve decided to sell.

“Between my design career and Jenson’s busy work schedule, on top of our family life, we don’t have time to manage two homes in Palm Springs,” Brittny told Dirt. “We are so sad to say goodbye, but we know whoever is lucky enough to purchase the property will be very happy there.”

Formula 1 champion Jenson Button is selling his Palm Springs vacation home for $2.5 million.

    Michael Karam/Calilookbook

On the market for $2.5 million, the estate is situated within the historic El Mirador neighborhood. Spanning 3,000 square feet, the main home comprises four bedrooms and four bathrooms. There’s also a guest casita for your pit crew. Oh, and the couple’s furniture is up for grabs, too.

The abode was originally built in 1946 by American starchitect John Porter Clark, who is credited as one of the pioneers of desert modernism. For an older spread, the Mediterranean-inspired villa has a ton of charm. Think vaulted wood-beam ceilings, dramatic columns and terracotta flooring throughout.

The Spanish Colonial home was furnished by the racing driver’s wife, Brittny, who’s an interior designer.

    Michael Karam/Calilookbook

The light, airy living quarters are characterized by bright white paint and expansive windows. Highlights include a custom chef’s kitchen outfitted with top-of-the-line Dacor and Sub-Zero appliances. There’s also a cozy breakfast nook and a separate dining area for entertaining racing royalty. Nearby, the living room sports a soaring, floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace that creates a cozy vibe.

Large French doors open up to the landscaped grounds, which have been decked out with a two-car garage, a fountain and a covered wraparound veranda. Extra perks include a sparkling pool and spa, a fire pit and a built-in barbecue. Best of all, you can enjoy jaw-dropping views of the nearby San Jacinto Mountains from your new digs. The peaks are a great place to put the pedal to the metal like Button, too.

Carmelo and La La Anthony’s Spanish-Style LA Home Just Hit the Market for $2.6 Million

Before their split, Carmelo and La La Anthony shared a chic, Spanish-style retreat in Los Angeles. Now, nearly two years after calling it quits, the former couple is finally parting ways with their longtime family home.

The NBA star and his ex-wife, who officially filed for divorce back in June 2021, have listed the sprawling California estate for a cool $2.6 million. The palatial pad dates all the way back to 1929 but has since undergone an extensive renovation. Today, the modern abode offers three spacious bedrooms, three bathrooms and more than 2,000 square feet of living space.

Carmelo and La La Anthony’s former Los Angeles home just listed for $2.6 million.

    Todd Goodman

“The property is a completely private and redone Spanish oasis in the heart of Beverly Grove for the most discerning of buyers,” Nima Tehrany of Compass, who holds the listing together with colleague James Baulding, told Architectural Digest.

The secluded one-story residence is hidden behind sturdy gates and tall hedges. Staying true to its roots, the home sports a white stucco exterior, a red tiled roof and charming archways. Inside, you’ll find vaulted beamed ceilings, oversized picture windows and hardwood flooring throughout. The light-filled living room features a cozy fireplace and postcard-like views of the olive trees outside. Elsewhere, the eat-in kitchen comes equipped with stainless steel appliances and a wine fridge, while the breakfast nook is surrounded by limewash walls that create a modern yet old-world feel.

The Spanish-style residence was originally built in the ’20s but has been totally renovated.

    Todd Goodman

When you need to unwind, the primary suite is outfitted with a massive walk-in closet clad in dark wood. There’s also a spa-like en suite complete with a freestanding soaking tub, dual sinks, a glass-walled shower and vistas of the bamboo-lined yard. Speaking of which, the grounds themselves have a few surprise perks, including an open-air cabana, multiple al fresco dining areas and a sparkling plunge pool and spa. Sounds like a slice of paradise in Beverly Grove.
