Ellen DeGeneres Just Sold a Midcentury Bungalow in Montecito for $5.2 Million

Back in 2020, after they sold a Beverly Hills mansion to a San Francisco-based venture capitalist for a cool $45 million, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi went on a real estate buying spree in the Santa Barbara area. The former talk show host and actress snatched up a $49 million compound from comedian Dennis Miller, bought back a $14.3 million ranch they had previously owned from Tinder founder Sean Rad, and picked up a two-bedroom, two-bath 1950s bungalow just steps away from Montecito’s Butterfly Beach for $2.9 million, just to name a few of their purchases.

The couple went on to flip the Miller pad for $55 million to an unidentified buyer and once again offloaded the historic Rancho San Leandro hacienda—it’s right next door to Oprah Winfrey’s Promised Land estate—to Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe in an off-market deal for $21 million. Now they’ve come full circle, selling the petite cottage in a bidding war for $5.2 million just days after they listed it for a speck under $5 million. Not only is that around $200,000 over the asking price, but it’s also $2.3 million more than they paid for the place a little more than four years ago.

The open-concept great room holds a fireside living and dining area, plus a sleek kitchen.

    Blake Bronstad/Luxury Portfolio International

Tucked away at the end of a lengthy driveway shared with three other homes, amid a nearly half-acre parcel laced with palms, the single-level house was built in 1954 and offers about 1,700 square feet of glass-lined living space that has been extensively renovated through the years. With vaulted ceilings sporting whitewashed exposed beams throughout, the Bali-esque interiors are centered around an open-concept great room hosting a fireside living room, a dining area, and a sleekly designed kitchen outfitted with Portuguese limestone countertops and high-end stainless appliances.

Just off the kitchen is a small guest bedroom that sits across from a full bath and a laundry room. At the end of a hallway is a secluded primary retreat, which features a bedroom with its own patio, along with a walk-in closet and a spa-like bath that comes with a soaking tub and access to a privately walled courtyard. A second enclosed patio off the living area is embellished with a fire pit and a water feature, while a carport rests out front.

The great room opens out to an enclosed patio with a fire pit and a seated bar.

    Blake Bronstad/Luxury Portfolio International

The property-mad pair, who have largely decamped to the U.K., are rumored to already be looking at a new and very modern house in the Cotswolds after they experienced issues with flooding and backlash from neighbors over construction work at an $18 million farmhouse they first moved into last year. Back in the U.S., they still lay claim to at least two Montecito homes: a $32 million Roman-style estate known as Pompeiian Court that the two repurchased last year as part of a property swap deal with billionaire mining magnate Robert Friedland, as well as another smaller house nearby.

The just-sold listing was held by Riskin Partners Estate Group of Village Properties/Forbes Global Properties; Mark Bacino of Keller Williams Realty repped the buyer.

Mary Tyler Moore’s Connecticut Estate Sells for a Reduced $16.9 Million

The Greenwich, Connecticut, estate that served as the home of late TV legend Mary Tyler Moore has been swooped up after being listed about one-and-a-half years ago.

The waterfront property was first listed in September 2023 for $22 million, but the buyer, represented by Helene Barre and Fran Ehrlich of Sotheby’s International Realty–Greenwich Brokerage, paid a reduced $16.9 million, its most recent asking price. Joseph Barbieri at the same brokerage represented the seller, Moore’s husband, Dr. S. Robert Levine.

“It was an honor to represent this remarkable property, once home to a beloved TV icon,” Barbieri said in a statement. “I am pleased with the successful outcome of the sale.”

The double-height solarium features stained glass inserts sourced from churches and synagogues.

Daniel Milstein for Sotheby’s International Realty

Moore and Levine snapped up the Georgian Colonial in 2006 for about $10 million, and the five-bedroom, nine-bath abode includes almost 14,000 square feet of interior space and sits on an impressive seven acres of land. While the home was originally built more than a century ago, the couple worked with architect Stephen Wang to update the home. Standout details include a double-height solarium with stained glass sourced from various churches and synagogues, a laundry room with a built-in dog shower and grooming station, and a decked-out gym and spa.

Elsewhere, you’ll find a foyer with harlequin-patterned floors and a wood-paneled billiards room and library with built-ins. The primary suite—all 2,000 square feet of it—includes both dual bathrooms and walk-in closets.

The 65-foot pool is accompanied by its own fireplace.

Daniel Milstein for Sotheby’s International Realty

Across the expansive grounds, landscaped by Janice Parker, you’ll find a host of amenities to boot. A guest apartment sits above the three-car garage, and the 65-foot pool comes with its own fireplace. Plus, there’s a pond and five acres of conservation land.

Moore, the iconic actress known for starring in her eponymous sitcom, died in 2017 at the age of 80 after contracting pneumonia, according to The New York Times. She married Levine in 1983, and the two split their time between Greenwich and Manhattan. When Levine decided to sell the Connecticut estate in 2023, he told The Wall Street Journal that doing so was part of his process of moving on. Back then, he added that a portion of the proceeds from the sale would go toward the Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative, a nonprofit that works to advance research for restoring and preserving vision in people with diabetes.

‘Full House’ Creator Jeff Franklin Relists His Sprawling Beverly Hills Estate for $50 Million

It looks like Jeff Franklin, the creator of the Full House sitcom, is giving it another shot with his ultra-luxe Beverly Hills estate, but this time with a serious price chop. Originally listed in 2022 for a staggering $85 million, the palatial mansion is back up for grabs for just under $50 million—a jaw-dropping 41.8 percent discount.

Of course, the property’s history adds another layer of intrigue. The behemoth abode sits on the infamous site of the gruesome 1969 Manson murders, though the original home was bulldozed in the ’90s. And, talk about timing, Netflix just released its documentary Chaos: The Manson Murders earlier this month. Coincidence? Maybe.

Dubbed Villa Andalusia, the lavish showstopper sits on over three-and-a-half private acres at the tail end of Cielo Drive in Benedict Canyon and spans a mind-boggling 21,000 square feet. Designed by A-list architect Richard Landry, the mastermind megamansion specialist behind homes for Dr. Dre and the Kardashians, the estate features a total of nine bedrooms and 18 bathrooms, plus a backyard that looks more like a boutique resort than a private residence. Think waterfalls, a koi pond, a lazy river, and even a 35-foot water slide that leads to a hidden grotto.

RELATED: This $62 Million Beverly Hills Home Was Designed by One of Napa Valley’s Favorite Architects

The pool sports multiple waterfalls, a lazy river and a 35-foot waterslide.

Thomas Feezel from Thomas Samuel Media

“This is one of the most exciting pools we have ever designed— it features a beach entry, steam cave, spa, waterfalls over a grotto, and a swim-up bar, not to mention the water slide and lazy river ending at an infinity edge with in-water dining and endless city views,” said Landry.

Inside, it only gets more extravagant. A soaring 40-foot foyer with a grand fountain sets the stage, leading to an opulent sitting room complete with a massive indoor shark tank that peeks into the dining room. The chef’s kitchen is just as impressive, decked out with a stone pizza oven, high-end appliances, and dramatic picture windows that showcase the breathtaking city-to-ocean views. The grand primary suite is a world of its own, with dual balconies, baroque wooden doors, and a spa-like bathroom offering the most commanding view on the entire property.

A a massive shark tank separates the city-view living and dining rooms.

And, if entertaining is your thing, this place is a dream. There’s a plush home theater, a game room, and a wet bar. There’s even a hair salon, a spa, and even a gym, not to mention a subterranean garage that fits up to 16 cars. “There is simply nothing quite like this on the market,” added Compass agent Adam Brawer.

The Hollywood producer purchased the then-unfinished estate more than 25 years ago for just over $6 million and spent years finishing and perfecting it. Since relocating to Miami, he’s also offered it as a fully furnished rental for $250,000 per month.

Kanye West’s Infamously Gutted Former Malibu House Pops Back Up for Sale After 6 Months

Just six months ago, Steven “Bo” Belmont was jazzed about having acquired a Tadao Ando-designed house in Malibu from Kanye West for a discounted $21 million. At the time, the founder and owner of Belwood Investments, a California-based real estate crowdfunding firm that’s been flipping homes since 2018, aspired to raise at least $5 million to restore the unfinished property during the next year or so to its original state and then hoist it back up for sale at around $40 million.

“This is not just a phenomenal real estate investment; it is an opportunity to revitalize and preserve an architectural gem by the renowned Tadao Ando, ensuring it remains a jewel of Malibu,” Belmont said via a press release. “This acquisition exemplifies Belwood Investments’ commitment to transforming properties with historical and architectural significance while delivering exceptional returns for our investors.”

But that was then. Belmont has now decided to put the place back on the market a little sooner and a lot more incomplete than expected. He’s asking a substantial $39 million for the oceanfront spread, which is listed by Jason Oppenheim of The Oppenheim Group and Mauricio Umansky of The Agency.

The four-bedroom, five-bath home clocks in at just over 4,000 square feet.

    Roger Davies

Records show the increasingly erratic music mogul-turned-Yeezy fashion designer doled out a whopping $57.3 million in cash for the residence in fall 2021 and then controversially gutted the place in preparation for a redesign. He proceeded to rip out all the windows, doors, and interior finishes before changing his mind and flipping the vacant and uninhabitable concrete shell back on the market in early 2024 at $53 million. The price was later slashed to $39 million, and after languishing and sitting exposed to the elements for nearly three years, it finally sold for $21 million, a staggering $36 million less than West paid.

Originally designed and built for financier and art collector Richard Sachs by the Pritzker Prize-winning Japanese architect, the brutalist structure was completed in 2013 in collaboration with the architecture firm Marmol Radziner using 1,200 tons of concrete and 200 tons of reinforced steel. Per marketing materials, the house has four bedrooms and five baths in just over 4,000 square feet, with roughly 1,500 square feet of outdoor decks providing ocean views.

Though the property is still unfinished, it does have new framing, plumbing, and electrical systems, as well as a redone roof.

    Roger Davies

Lacking plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and interior finishes at the time he scooped it up, Belmont has since completed the framing, installed new plumbing and electrical systems, redone the roof, and is waiting for glass for the windows to arrive from Germany. The investor recently told The Wall Street Journal that he doesn’t intend to abandon the construction that is already under way and will continue to work on the mansion until he receives a fair offer. If one doesn’t come about, he added, he will list the property for between $55 million and $65 million closer to completion, which is expected by early 2026. Several unsolicited offers have already come in during the past few months, including a $30 million overture from a Montana developer and a $28 million submission from a local builder. “I’m obviously not going to take that,” he said, “but there’s been a lot of activity.”

A broker price opinion report prepared for Belwood by Rugiero at the time of purchase estimated the property’s final value once restored would top $50 million, while other brand-new or freshly rehabbed homes along this same stretch of sand typically go for around $20 million. However, it is one of only a handful of U.S. buildings designed by the 82-year-old Ando, who’s been called “Hollywood’s favorite starchitect” and whose homes are regarded as “the hottest must-have among the super wealthy.”

The brutalist structure has roughly 1,500 square feet of outdoor decks overlooking the Pacific.

    Roger Davies

In 2023, Jay-Z and Beyoncé paid $190 million for a much larger Malibu estate designed by Ando in a deal that remains one of the most ever paid for a California home. Kim Kardashian is planning to build an extravagant Ando-designed vacation mansion near Palm Springs, and Slack co-founder Stewart Butterfield and his wife Jen Rubio bought Tom Ford’s Ando-designed ranch in New Mexico in 2021 for $40 million.

After he offloaded his Malibu home, West paid $35 million in an off-market deal for a glitzy Richard Landry-designed contemporary mansion in the guard-gated Beverly Park neighborhood of Los Angeles that had previously belonged to Perfect 10 magazine founder Norm Zada, as well as the late Saudi billionaire Sheikh Saleh Abdullah Kamal. His other L.A. property in Calabasas, where his now-shuttered Donda Academy was located, has fallen into a state of neglect.

Stevie Wonder Once Called This SoCal Estate Home. Now It Can Be Yours for $15 Million.

If you’ve always wanted to live like a legendary singer and songwriter with countless hits and awards under his belt, now’s your chance. The sprawling SoCal estate where Stevie Wonder resided with his family for over a decade has just popped up for sale in the Los Angeles suburb of Calabasas, asking $15 million. The listing, which is also available for rent at $65,000 a month, is shared by Branden Williams, Rayni Williams, Dennis DeWalt, and Brandon Meneses of The Beverly Hills Estates.

Wonder purchased the home in October 2000 for nearly $2.9 million for his then-soon-to-be wife, clothing designer Kai Millard (Milla) Morris. Though the I Just Called to Say I Love You crooner moved out after their 2012 divorce, she has remained in the residence ever since and is now selling because their two sons are grown, according to The Wall Street Journal.

A music room holds Wonder’s rare Bösendorfer piano, which is not included in the sale.

Built in 1992 and recently renovated, the white stucco and terracotta-roof structure is tucked away on a nearly three-acre hillside parcel within the exclusive gated Hidden Hills West neighborhood. Six bedrooms and an equal number of baths are spread across more than 11,100 square feet of three-level living space that boasts the same acoustically ideal, high ceilings the 25-time Grammy-winning musician enjoyed while practicing and singing tunes with his family.

Upon entering the massive pivoting wood front door, a double-height marble entry foyer displaying a spiral staircase flows to a formal fireside dining room topped by a pendant ring-shaped light fixture. Other highlights include a family room sporting a trio of picture windows, a wet bar, and wine storage, plus a gourmet kitchen decked out with chevron-patterned parquet wood floors, custom cabinetry, a book-matched marble eat-in island, and top-notch Miele and Sub-Zero appliances.

Christina Ricci’s Scenic L.A. Home Is Back on the Market for $4.2 Million

It’s been barely a year since Christina Ricci doled out $4 million for a modern home in Los Angeles, and now the veteran film and TV actress is already looking to offload her stylish spread high above the hills of Silver Lake with a nearly $200,000 jump in price, asking just under $4.2 million. But the brand-new Hollywood Walk of Fame star holder has a good reason. A family member who was displaced during the recent L.A. wildfires has moved in with the Yellowjackets star and her hairstylist husband Mark Hampton and she needs a bigger place to better accommodate all of them, according to listing agent Lorraine Getz of Compass.

Completed in 2018 and resting amid a nearly quarter-acre cul-de-sac parcel overlooking the Silver Lake Reservoir, the three-bedroom, four-bath abode has roughly 3,400 square feet of open-concept, two-level living space accented with a mix of hardwood and ceramic tile floors throughout, plus a smart-home automation system. A spacious rooftop deck and vast expanses of glass offer jetliner views stretching from Downtown L.A. to the reservoir and mountains beyond.

The fireside living room opens to a terrace offering sweeping city skyline views.

    David Fitzgerald

A catwalk leads into the main level, which is highlighted by an open-concept great room sporting a living area that has a sleek linear fireplace topped by a TV and access to a terrace. A formal dining room flanked by a stone accent wall flows to an eat-in kitchen, which has a center island with an attached table and top-tier Miele and Sub-Zero appliances. A floating staircase winds its way upstairs, where three en suite bedrooms include a serene primary suite outfitted with a fireside seating area, a private balcony, a bespoke walk-in closet, and a spa-like bath boasting a soaking tub.

Outdoors, the turf-clad backyard is laced with a variety of citrus trees and hosts a pool and spillover spa notched into a wood sundeck. There’s also a two-car garage, along with a nearby “hidden” staircase that connects you to Lamill Coffee, L&E Oyster Bar, Bar Siesta, and other local hot spots.

A pool and an accompanying spillover spa are notched into an expansive wood-clad deck.

Artist Ashley Longshore’s Pop Art-Inspired New Orleans Home Just Listed for $2.3 Million

New Orleans is known for its vibrant culture, bold colors, and artistic flair—so it’s only fitting that Big Easy artist Ashley Longshore’s home embodies that same electric energy. Now, the acclaimed painter and designer’s dazzling residence is up for grabs, offering one lucky buyer the chance to own a one-of-a-kind creative sanctuary.

On the market for $2.3 million, the 1920s abode is nestled behind private gates, providing an adventurous oasis of color, texture, and whimsy. This place isn’t just for show, though. According to Architectural Digest, Longshore teamed up with Memphis-based designer Gwen Driscoll to make sure the more than 5,000-square-foot house didn’t just look cool but felt inviting and fun. On the practical side, it’s got four total bedrooms, four-and-a-half baths, tons of storage, and gated parking for four cars, including a two-car garage.

RELATED: John Goodman’s Longtime Digs in The Big Easy Can Be Yours for $5.5 Million

The kitchen features seafom green cabinets and marble checkerboard tile flooring.

“When I was finally in a place to get the house, what I loved about it was how it was gated and set back, and just the privacy of the home in general,” Longshore told the publication back in 2022. “And from the outside, it was very traditional, but then on the inside, I wanted it to feel like a jewel box of my art collection.”

The chef’s kitchen, with a long, slender white-cube island running down the middle, and adjacent dining room are decked out with hand-picked chandeliers and sconces that perfectly complement the funky floral wallpaper. A spacious walk-in wine cellar offers ample storage for storing favorite vintages, while sculptural elements—like a succulent art installation—add even more personality to the space. There’s even a “pink room of pop,” because, why not?

Elsewhere, the massive living room lies below soaring 20-foot ceilings, while huge walls of glass give a perfect view of the lush outdoor entertaining area and oversized pool. Take the hand-painted staircase—embellished by Longshore herself—up to the second floor, where the primary suite features a one-of-a-kind mural by the artist. The third-floor loft is yet another canvas for Longshore’s creativity, with every inch hand-painted in her signature style.

A contemporary pop artist best known for her vivacious, colorful, and satirical paintings that celebrate celebrity culture, Longshore is sometimes compared to the late Andy Warhol, building a cult following with her vibrant, mixed-media works featuring icons like Audrey Hepburn and Anna Wintour. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with major fashion houses, including Gucci and Bergdorf Goodman, and her work is in collections by A-listers like Salma Hayek and Eli Manning.

Amy Schumer Lists Her 200-Year-Old Brooklyn Townhouse for $14 Million

In early 2022 Amy Schumer hoisted her Manhattan penthouse on the market and picked up a renovated and restored 19th-century townhouse in Brooklyn. Fast forward almost three years, and the comedian and actress has decided to pull up stakes again and return to the Upper West Side, hoisting her Federal-style residence in historic Brooklyn Heights up for sale at $14 million. Adam Modlin of Modlin Group and Karen and Kyle Talbott of Corcoran Group hold the listing.

Records show The Kinda Pregnant and I Feel Pretty star and her chef husband Chris Fischer acquired the early 1800s property in summer 2022 for nearly $12.3 million and then customized it to suit their personal tastes.

Notably featured as the Castorini family’s home in the 1987 Oscar-winning film Moonstruck starring Cher and Nicolas Cage, the brick and mansard-roof structure clocks in at 26 feet wide and has four (and potentially five) bedrooms and four baths spread across a little more than 5,500 square feet on a total of five levels donning a whopping total of 30 windows for an abundance of natural light.

The fireside double parlor is divided by pilaster-framed pocketing doors.

    Evan Joseph Photography

Standing out on the first floor is a kitchen outfitted with an exposed beam ceiling, wide-plank floors, vintage wood cabinetry, a marble-topped island, top-tier Gaggenau and Lacanche appliances, a butler’s pantry with a zinc bar sink, and a breakfast nook. An adjacent wood-paneled bedroom-turned-library connects to a mudroom, which opens to a Michael Van Valkenburgh-landscaped backyard that currently holds a turf-clad play area but could easily be repurposed as a private gated parking space.

The main entrance on the second level leads to a duo of fireside parlors divided by large pocketing doors, plus a powder room and access to an iron-railed terrace with steps descending to the backyard. A grand primary suite occupying the entire third floor has a corner bedroom warmed by an original fireplace, as well as dressing and sitting rooms, an office, and a marble bath flaunting another fireplace, dual vanities, a vintage clawfoot soaking tub, and a floating glass-encased shower.

The couple converted a former brick patio in the backyard into a turf-clad play area.

    Evan Joseph Photography

Three more bedrooms that share a penny-tiled bath can be found on the top floor, along with a Miele washer and dryer. Rounding it all out in style is the basement, which hosts a custom wine cellar, an excavated gym, and full laundry facilities.

Per The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the listing, the New York native has decided to sell because she and her husband want to be closer to their 5-year-old son’s school in Manhattan. “He got into a good school,” she said, “and we’re too lazy to commute 45 minutes to take our son to school every day.”
