Rihanna Takes a Slight Loss on Matthew Perry’s Former L.A. Penthouse

After first hitting the open market a little more than two months ago with a nearly $25 million price tag, Rihanna has officially offloaded her Los Angeles penthouse to an unnamed buyer for a pinch under $20.8 million. And while that’s still a large sum of money by any measure, that amount is around $85,000 less than the Barbadian superstar paid for the place a little over a year ago.

The 36-year-old billionaire purchased the condo for a discounted $21 million in March 2023 from short-term owner Nick Molnar, co-founder of the tech company Afterpay, who originally wanted $28 million. Before that, the residence was owned for roughly four years by the late Friends actor Matthew Perry, who bought the sprawling unit for $20 million in 2017 and subsequently gave it an extensive makeover in collaboration with architect Scott Joyce and interior designer LM Pagano.

Spanning the entire 40th floor of The Century building—a 42-story, Robert A.M. Stern Architects-designed luxury residential tower nestled along Century City’s Avenue of the Stars—the mansion-sized flat has four bedrooms and seven bathrooms across 9,300 square feet of contemporary yet classic living space. Four massive wraparound terraces offer up picturesque views stretching from Downtown L.A. across the Santa Monica Mountains to the Pacific Ocean.

Other highlights include a lavish soundproof movie theater and a broad entrance galley perfect for showing off artwork or collectibles. There’s also a spacious living room displaying two fireplaces, a formal dining room that seats 25, and a game room/library warmed by a fireplace, as well as a gourmet kitchen outfitted with a duo of marble-topped islands, top-tier Miele, Wolf, and Sub-Zero appliances, a wine refrigerator, and a breakfast nook. An opulent primary suite comes complete with a cozy fireside seating area, dual baths and walk-in closets, and stellar vistas via a semi-circular bank of soaring windows.

Topping it all off are plenty of building amenities, courtesy of a hefty $8,814 monthly HOA charge, which include 24-hour concierge and security guards, four deeded parking spots in an underground garage, a wine cellar, a screening room, access to an outdoor swimming pool and gardens, a gym and fitness studio, a restaurant, conference rooms, and storage facilities.

In addition to her recently sold condo, Rihanna still owns another smaller condo at The Century. But her current main residence remains a $14 million mansion in the mountains above Beverly Hills. Per Forbes, the We Found Love hitmaker is now the world’s richest female musician, with an estimated net worth of $1.4 billion. More

Celebrity Real Estate Roundup: Joe Jonas Buys in Brooklyn, Sarah Silverman Scoops Up the House Next Door, and More

Barely two months after Joe Jonas’s longtime apartment in the Nolita neighborhood of Manhattan changed hands for about $5.3 million, the now-single pop star has reportedly added another New York City property to his portfolio. Per a trusted informant and public records filed in New York City, he’s just doled out $6.7 million for a residence in a historic Brooklyn neighborhood.

Sited within the 33-story Olympia Dumbo building, which was created by Fortis Property Group in collaboration with Hill West Architects and the design firm Workstead, the corner unit rests on the 26th floor and has three bedrooms and four baths spread across 2,654 square feet of living space adorned throughout with blonde hardwood floors.

Other highlights include an entry foyer that flows to a spacious great room offering views of the Manhattan Bridge. Double doors slide open to reveal a kitchen outfitted with sleek maple cabinetry, a stone-topped eat-in island, top-tier Gaggenau appliances, and an adjacent dining area sporting a wet bar and a Thermador wine cooler; and elsewhere is a bedroom that’s been converted into a den, along with a primary suite hosting a large walk-in closet, and an inviting bath spotlighted by dual vanities and a freestanding soaking tub.

Jonas also will have access to plenty of amenities courtesy of $2,833 in monthly common charges, including a 24-hour doorman and concierge, a private garden lounge, a club providing everything from a two-lane bowling alley to a fitness center, a bridge level offering indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a tennis court, and a private parking spot.

Byron Allen Lists Side-by-Side Homes in Beverly Hills

    Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images1

Barely two years after Byron Allen simultaneously scooped up a couple of multimillion-dollar homes in one of the most desirable neighborhood pockets of Beverly Hills, the comedian-turned-media mogul is already flipping them back up for sale. The ask? A smidge under $40 million, which is a whopping $8 million more than he originally forked over for the two homes.

Records show the CEO of Entertainment Studios paid Canadian tech titan and former eBay president Jeff Skoll a total of $32 million for the two properties in spring 2022; that was shortly after he had secured more than $80 million in financing to demolish an existing house just down the street and replace it with a 24,000-square-foot mega-mansion worth $150 million. Slated for completion this year and expected to include a bowling alley and a subterranean gym, the new spread adds to Byron’s personal property portfolio that contains luxe residences in locales such as New York, Aspen, Maui, and Malibu.

As for the side-by-side homes now up for sale, Allen first plunked down $22.5 million for a sleek modern estate resting atop a promontory and then paid another $9.5 million for a more humble and decidedly dated Tudor abode right next door. The two separate but contiguous parcels create a 1.5-acre compound with combined living space topping 10,000 square feet.

The pricier of the two homes was built in 1999 and features five bedrooms and seven baths in 7,500 square feet of open-plan living space offering picturesque views spanning from the downtown Los Angeles skyline to the Pacific Ocean. Notable amenities include a wet bar-equipped great room, a gourmet kitchen outfitted with top-tier appliances, and a sumptuous primary suite boasting dual closets and baths, along with a wood-paneled study, a gym, and a wine cellar. The almost 1-acre grounds also host an infinity-edge pool.

The more modest house was built in the early 1950s and sits on over a half-acre of land fronted by a motorcourt and an attached two-car garage. Inside, there are three bedrooms and an equal number of baths in just over 3,000 square feet. Standing out is a loft space that’s accessible via a wooden ladder and a mostly paved backyard with a pool.

LL Cool J’s Encino Mansion Hits the Market for $6 Million

    Karen Neal/CBS via Getty Images1

A little over six years ago, LL Cool J doled out $4.3 million for an architectural-style home in the affluent Royal Oaks enclave of Encino. Now the Grammy-winning rapper—who’s also widely known for his work as a songwriter, record producer, and actor—has decided to part ways with the place he and his wife Simone Smith have owned since spring 2018, asking a speck under $6 million.

Described in the listing as a “masterpiece,” the 2017-built dwelling has four bedrooms and six baths in a little more than 6,000 square feet of modern living space boasting vaulted ceilings and walls of glass. Secluded by gates and high hedges, the boxy stucco structure’s main level is highlighted by a great room sporting living and dining areas that flow to a gourmet kitchen, as well as an opulent primary suite.

Elsewhere are four additional guest bedrooms, along with a secondary living room that has floor-to-ceiling Fleetwood doors spilling out to a resort-like backyard holding a pool house, pool and spa, and built-in barbecue. There’s also an attached two-car garage on the premises.

In addition to his for-sale house, LL Cool J also owns a New York home that he paid $1.5 million for way back in 1999.

‘Vampire Diaries’ Star Paul Wesley’s Secluded Topanga Retreat Is Up for Sale

    GVictoria Sirakova/Getty Imagesetty Images

It’s been five years since Paul Wesley doled out $1.9 million for a secluded log cabin-style home in the remote area of Topanga Canyon. Now the actor—probably best known as Stefan Salvatore on the “Vampire Diaries”—is tossing the place back on the market, asking $3.6 million.

Hidden away behind gates and dense foliage on three-quarters of an acre and previously listed for rent at $16,000 per month, the wood-clad structure provides sweeping views of the Santa Monica Mountains. Originally built in the early 1970s but upgraded through the years, the place boasts four bedrooms and three baths in just over 2,600 square feet of open-concept living space punctuated throughout with rustic hardwood floors, vaulted ceilings, oversized windows, and floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors flowing out to expansive decks ideal for al fresco lounging and entertaining.

Standout features include a sunken living room flaunting a wood-burning fireplace etched into a white-painted brick wall and a dining area that connects to an updated kitchen, which is outfitted with an eat-in island, Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances, and a breakfast nook. There’s also an office space that doubles as a screening room, complete with surround sound, as well as a sauna-equipped gym; and outdoors, the grassy grounds are laced with mature oaks and redwoods and come complete with a cedar tub, a shower, a bocce court, and a vegetable garden.

Sarah Silverman Buys Another Los Feliz House

    Kevin Mazur/Getty Images

Emmy-winning actress and stand-up comedian Sarah Silverman has shelled out $2.1 million for a residential property that abuts an ultra-contemporary Los Feliz residence she bought nearly four years ago for $3.5 million.

Built in the late 1940s and on the market for the first time in over 50 years, the post-and-beam spread was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright associate Alfred Gilman and last sold in June 1972 for $63,500. The 53-year-old Los Angeles native won the property in an apparent bidding war—paying around $563,000 over the asking price—with the purchase giving her almost half of a contiguous acre in a celeb-studded neighborhood, where nearby neighbors include Scarlett Johansson and Kate Mara.

Described in the listing as “ready for a major restoration or a possible rebuild due to condition,” Silverman’s newly acquired home features three bedrooms and two baths in a little more than 2,300 square feet of split-level living space boasting a wealth of wood details and picture windows throughout. There’s also a detached two-car garage on the premises.

Among the highlights are a fireside living room and a double-height dining room that opens directly to a large back patio and garden area. Secluded down a short hallway is the primary suite, while the lower level hosts a large family room with a stone fireplace, two additional bedrooms, and a full bath.

Dodgers Star Shohei Ohtani Scores SoCal Estate for $7.8 Million

Shohei Ohtani may be out some $16 million because of his crooked interpreter, but MLB’s $700 million man seemingly still has more than enough cash left over to splash out on his choice of prime real estate.

In March, the Los Angeles Dodgers star paid $1.4 million for a 1.1-acre parcel on the Big Island of Hawaii, where he plans to build a roughly 5,000-square home with ocean views in Hapuna Estates, a new gated community within the Mauna Kea Resort. And now, he’s just forked over millions more for a modern mansion in the leafy L.A. suburb of La Cañada Flintridge. Reportedly one of the city’s priciest transactions ever, the deal was first written up by the Los Angeles Times.

Originally hitting the market for a speck under $9 million back in June 2023 and subsequently reduced to $8.3 million, records show the nearly 1-acre spread ultimately went to the Japanese baseball sensation for a discounted $7.8 million. The seller was comedian and podcaster Adam Carolla, who picked up the place for $7.3 million almost six years ago, back in late 2018.

An aerial view of Shohei Ohtani’s new La Cañada Flintridge estate.

    Google Earth

Built in 2013 and extensively renovated during Carolla’s tenure, the gated structure is sited amid a secluded cul-de-sac and features five en-suite bedrooms and a total of six baths sprawled across a little more than 7,300 square feet of three-level living space displaying a mix of contemporary and midcentury-modern interiors accented throughout with bluestone walls, clerestory windows, and stone and wood details. Floor-to-ceiling walls of glass allow for seamless indoor/outdoor environs and other amenities range from an office, a movie theater, a gym, and a sauna to a dumbwaiter and a home-automation system.

Additional standout features include formal living and dining rooms, a fireside family room that spills out to the backyard, and a gourmet kitchen outfitted with custom cabinetry, a central island, an eat-in peninsula, top-notch Miele and Thermador appliances, and an accompanying breakfast nook. There’s also a spacious primary suite boasting a fireplace, a sitting area, a private balcony, a walk-in closet, and a luxe bath equipped with dual vanities, a spa tub, and a glass-encased shower.

Outdoors, the landscaped grounds are dotted with oak trees and host an infinity pool and spa bordered by a grassy lawn on one side and a deck on the other, as well as a barbecue and bar setup resting alongside an al fresco dining area, a fire-pit, a sports court, and an attached four-car garage.

Before he joined the Dodgers in 2023 as a pitcher and a designated hitter, inking the biggest contract in baseball history, 29-year-old Ohtani played six seasons for the L.A. Angels; and he’s also suited up for the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters of Nippon Professional Baseball. According to Sportico, the two-time MVP also stands to earn around $65 million in lucrative endorsement deals this year, representing brands such as New Balance, Fanatics, and Rapsodo, which makes tracking devices used for baseball, softball, and golf.

Other recent sports-related transactions include former Brooklyn Nets coach Jacque Vaughn scooping up a $2.5 million condo at the Quay Tower, where Zendaya reportedly owns a $5 million unit, and Boston Celtics star Al Horford’s mansion in the community of Brookline coming to market for $9 million. Kendrick Lamar Reportedly Drops $40 Million on a 9-Bedroom Estate in L.A.

For many years, Kendrick Lamar has lived in the seaside town of Manhattan Beach. After years of renting, the acclaimed rapper and songwriter bought a brand-new mansion there about five years ago, with the sandy beach and deep blue sea lying just two short blocks from his doorstep. But he began making moves far more inland in late 2022, when he purchased a traditional spread in the prime East Gate neighborhood of Bel Air. Now he’s reportedly added another Los Angeles property to his portfolio, this one a modern farmhouse-style spread in the Lower Mandeville Canyon area of Brentwood that sits right next door to a home owned by Gwyneth Paltrow.

Though records have yet to clear, The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Lamar has doled out “more than $40 million” in an off-market deal for his new estate, which is roughly $20.5 million more than its previous owners, Viet Dinh, the former chief legal and policy officer at Fox Corp., and his wife Jennifer Ashworth, paid for the property back in 2019. Should escrow close, it will be one of the priciest transactions in L.A. so far this year.

An aerial view of the property.

    Apple Maps

Built in 2018 and designed by noted L.A. architect Philip Vertoch, the wood and stone-trimmed structure features nine bedrooms and 15 baths in a little more than 16,200 square feet of tri-level living space adorned throughout with blonde hardwood floors, high wood-beam ceilings, and stone, reclaimed wood, and marble accents. Glitzy amenities include a duo of staircases and an elevator, as well as a wine cellar, a gym, a movie theater, and a spa bath sporting a sauna and massage and steam rooms.

Hidden away behind gates on a parcel of land spanning nearly an acre, Lamar’s new residence has an attached three-car garage tucked off to the side. Though current MLS images aren’t available and it’s not known whether the Dinhses made any improvements during their tenure, previous listings show a spacious living area boasting built-in shelving, a wet bar, a fireplace notched into a wood-paneled wall, and glass doors spilling out to a covered loggia warmed by a fireplace.

Other highlights include formal living and dining rooms, plus a gourmet kitchen outfitted with an eat-in island and a secondary caterer’s kitchen. Sequestered upstairs, the opulent primary retreat has a two-way fireplace between the bedroom and a lounge area, along with a balcony and dual walk-in closets and baths. More amenities can be found outdoors, where the private and grassy grounds are spotlighted by a pool with a Baja shelf and spa. There’s also a detached guesthouse on the premises.

Over the course of his 20-plus-year music career, Lamar has certainly achieved rare levels of success. The 36-year-old Compton native won a whopping 17 Grammys out of 50 nominations, nabbed a Pulitzer Prize for DAMN—the first nonclassical or jazz recording ever to earn the coveted honor for music—and even appeared in a novel hip-hop-centric Super Bowl halftime show in 2022.

In addition to his Brentwood, Bel Air, and Manhattan Beach homes, Lamar lays claim to a Calabasas residence long occupied by several of his family members. And last year, he paid $8.6 million in cash for a three-floor penthouse in New York City’s Pierhouse building that offers views of Lower Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge.

Per WSJ, real estate agents involved in the deal included Cindy Ambuehl and Morgan Trent of Christie’s International Real Estate and Mark Norton of Palm Realty Boutique. More

Meghan Trainor Snags Zedd’s Rockstar-Worthy L.A. Manse for $17 Million

Anton Zaslavski—better known to millions of electronic music fans as Zedd—has officially offloaded his contemporary residence in the upscale Los Angeles enclave of Encino for just over $17.1 million, or roughly $2 million more than the DJ paid for the palatial mansion in the posh San Fernando Valley enclave less than three years ago.

Records confirm the buyer is Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Meghan Trainor, known for smash pop music hits like Lips Are Moving and All About That Bass. After hitting the market in January with a nearly $19 million ask, the house sold to Trainor at a substantial discount. The Russian-German DJ/record producer acquired the two-story home from former A-list couple Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner for $15.2 million a little over two years ago, back in September 2021.

An elegant formal living room is warmed by a fireplace.

    Simon Berlyn

Resting beyond gates, on almost an acre of land laced with mature oaks, the white brick and wood-accented structure was built in 2019 and features six bedrooms and 12 baths in roughly 15,000 square feet of Jae Omar-designed living space adorned with walls of glass offering seamless indoor/outdoor environs. Glitzy amenities include several custom touches and upgrades added by Zedd himself, ranging from a “personal wellness retreat” boasting a gym, a sauna, and a massage room, to a recording studio and a vocal booth.

Among the other highlights: a double-height entrance gallery topped by a starburst chandelier and displaying a floating staircase, plus a formal living room and an office space. A fireside family room sits adjacent to a sleekly designed eat-in kitchen outfitted with an eat-in island, top-tier appliances, a walk-in pantry, and an accompanying breakfast nook, while a secondary prep kitchen leads to a formal dining room spotlighted by a glass-encased wine display.

The main kitchen features high-end appliances and a breakfast nook.

    Simon Berlyn

The creature comforts continue upstairs, where a sumptuous primary bedroom spanning the entire floor sports a spacious wraparound terrace, a floor-to-ceiling fireplace, not one but two walk-in closets, and a luxe bath equipped with dual vanities, a soaking tub, and a large shower. Five additional guest bedrooms also can be found on this level, each with its own walk-in closet and bath.

As for the picturesque grounds, they host a putting green, lap pool and spa, a fire-pit, and an outdoor kitchen, along with an expansive roof deck. There’s also a two-story guesthouse that comes complete with an authentic British-style pub and a state-of-the-art Dolby Atmos movie theater, as well as a two-bay garage with room for four vehicles out front.

Amenities at the modern estate include an authentic British-style pub.

    Simon Berlyn

This isn’t Trainor’s first foray into Encino. Back in 2020, she and her husband, Spy Kids actor Daryl Sabara, paid rapper TMG Fresh $6.6 million for a smaller but no less glitzy mansion in the neighborhood. More recently, the couple splashed out $3.1 million for a newly built modern farmhouse-style home also in the area. As for Zedd, the wealthy DJ has upgraded to an even larger property nearby, doling out $18.4 million late last year for a lavish Nordic-inspired Encino mansion known as “Odin.”

The listing was held by David Kramer and Andrew Buss of Hilton & Hyland/Forbes Global Properties; Justin Paul Huchel of Carolwood Estates repped Trainor. More

Hollywood Producer Ryan Murphy Puts Sleekly Redone Neutra House on the Market for $34 Million

Back in winter 2022, shortly before Ryan Murphy put a Cliff May-designed horse ranch in the bucolic Sullivan Canyon pocket of L.A.’s Brentwood neighborhood up for sale at nearly double the $7.15 million he paid for the place less than two years before, the prolific TV show creator and real estate investor doled out $29 million for a landmark midcentury-modern home in the affluent Bel Air enclave of Los Angeles. Now that revamped property has popped up for sale, dressed to the nines and asking an eye-popping $34 million. The listing, which was first reported by The Wall Street Journal, is shared by Aaron Kirman of Christie’s International Real Estate and Riley Schmidt and Timothy Wollaston of Riley Real Estate.

Originally designed in the mid-1950s by pioneering modernist architect Richard Neutra—and previously occupied by fashion mogul Tom Ford for around two decades—the “Brown House” has been extensively restored and modernized during Murphy’s ownership in collaboration with a team that included designer Trevor Cheney of Seventh House Gallery. The result? A total of five bedrooms and eight baths in almost 3,800 square feet over two levels boasting restored terrazzo floors and numerous built-ins, plus vast walls of glass providing seamless indoor/outdoor environs.

For the right price, Murphy is willing to sell the home’s avant-garde furnishings as featured in Architectural Digest—an antique silver collection, a 19th-century Biedermeier table, contemporary artwork, and a built-in settee left behind by Ford, just for starters.

A spacious fireside living room has floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors that open to a terrace overlooking city lights and ocean views.

    Matthew Momberger

Perched atop a hill overlooking the Bel-Air Country Club, amid a gated parcel of land spanning just over three-quarters of an acre, the glass, wood, and concrete structure is accessed via a ramp that leads to an entryway bolstered by soaring cantilevered bars. Once inside, a walnut-paneled hallway leads to a double-wide living room holding an eye-catching brick fireplace and floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors spilling out to an expansive terrace. Nearby, a dining room is spotlighted by a gray alabaster table that seats eight and a rectangular window resembling a still-life painting.

The dining room’s picture window gazes out to a garden holding a 19th-century Italian sculpture of Cupid.

    Matthew Momberger

Other highlights include an office, a media room, a main kitchen connected to a secondary catering kitchen below, and a sumptuous primary bedroom sporting aubergine lacquered walls and a stylish sitting area. Outdoors, you’ll find Scott Shrader-landscaped grounds hosting a Romanesque-style garden that’s been reoriented around a 17th-century urn fountain and a lengthy black-bottom pool flanked by a one-bedroom, one-bath guesthouse, all of it offering up picturesque city lights and ocean vistas.

A 17th-century stone fountain serves as the centerpiece of a gravel patio amid sculpted plantings.

    Matthew Momberger

The 58-year-old Indiana native first rose to prominence in the early 2000s after creating Nip/Tuck, which ran for 100 episodes. Subsequent mega-hits like Glee and American Horror Story cemented his status as one of the modern era’s most successful producers and led to the inking of his 2018 Netflix contract, the biggest development deal in TV history. On the real estate front, the six-time Emmy winner has bought and sold numerous multimillion-dollar properties from coast to coast during the past few decades, including a Beverly Hills mansion he transferred to fellow producer David Zander for $16.3 million in 2020 and a Laguna Beach compound that traded hands the following year for $10.6 million.

In addition to his primary residence, a $15.5 million spread in L.A.’s Brentwood neighborhood where he lives with his photographer husband David Miller and their three sons, Murphy’s hefty property portfolio also includes a $24.5 million Axel Vervoordt-designed townhouse in Manhattan’s West Village and a waterfront hideaway in Provincetown, R.I. He also lays claim to a sprawling country estate in New York’s Westchester County that he picked up from actor Richard Gere for $24.1 million in 2023 and is now renovating.

The Latest in the Saga of Marilyn Monroe’s Iconic L.A. Home

In Los Angeles, tearing down historic homes has become commonplace, causing the loss of some particularly fabled old beauties. One famous recent case in point: the “Zimmerman House” in Brentwood, which was crafted in the 1950s by modernist architect Craig Ellwood and purchased by Hollywood actor Chris Pratt and author Katherine Schwarzenegger, who destroyed the structure in favor of a brand-new mansion.

Another Brentwood home recently sparking ire among demolition foes has been this storied 1920s hacienda, the site of Marilyn Monroe’s 1962 death and the only house she ever owned. Resting amid a half-acre parcel of land at 12305 Fifth Helena Drive, the residence was acquired last year in an $8.4 million, all-cash deal by billionaire heiress Brinah Milstein and her husband Roy Bank, a former reality TV producer, who are seeking to demolish the place.

The acquisition of Monroe’s house gives Milstein and Bank more than an acre of prime Brentwood land.

    Google Earth

The couple, who own the roughly 6,000-square-foot mansion immediately next door, for which they paid $8.2 million back in 2016, would like to link the two properties together to create one large compound. But in January, after much strum and drang by preservationists, the Monroe residence scored a reprieve when the L.A. city council unanimously voted to consider the house for historic preservation, prompting the building department to revoke the couple’s demolition.

According to a new lawsuit, Milstein and Bank are now asserting that they have the right to demolish the famed home, claiming that city officials acted unconstitutionally in their efforts to designate the home as a landmark and accusing them of “backdoor machinations” in trying to preserve a house that doesn’t meet the criteria for status as a historic cultural monument.

The lawsuit claims the home has had 14 owners since Monroe’s death and has been substantially altered, with more than a dozen permits issued for various remodels during the past six decades. “There is not a single piece of the house that includes any physical evidence that Ms. Monroe ever spent a day at the house, not a piece of furniture, not a paint chip, not a carpet, nothing,” the lawsuit says. It also claims that the home is a nuisance to the neighborhood, with fans and tour buses regularly stopping by to snap pictures of the privacy wall.

    Marilyn Monroe’s former home.

    Mercer Vine

Despite its modest scale and unpretentious nature, the 2,600-square-foot bungalow gained worldwide fame in 1962 as the location of Monroe’s apparent overdose at the age of 36. The walled and gated property was the only house ever owned by the legendary actress, and in the 60 years since, the estate has become one of the city’s most famous local landmarks. Blogger Lindsay Blake previously published an in-depth post filled with numerous fascinating tidbits about the property, including how Monroe placed a plaque above the front door that read “Cursom Perificio” in Latin. Translation: “My Journey Ends Here.”

The home’s exterior architecture remains incredibly similar to how it appeared in the early 1960s, but the interiors have been significantly altered. Most notably, the kitchen and bathrooms have been modernized, and the estate’s formerly detached guest casita has been merged into the main house. Still, numerous original features—casement windows, terracotta tile floors, wood-beamed ceilings—happily hearken back to Golden Age times. More

One of Matthew Perry’s L.A. Homes Lists for $5.2 Million

Before he passed away in October 2023 at age 54, Matthew Perry plumped up his real estate portfolio with yet another Los Angeles residence. The comedian, producer, and actor—best known for his Emmy-nominated role as Chandler Bing on the long-running sitcom Friends—doled out a speck under $5 million in an off-market deal for a sleek midcentury-modern villa in Hollywood Hills that was originally listed for around $6 million. Now that place has popped up for sale once again, this time asking $5.2 million.

Built in 1957 and recently renovated, the place is nestled amid an almost quarter-acre parcel above the Sunset Strip. Fronted by a short yet wide driveway that empties out at an attached two-car garage, as well as a privacy screen and an off-kilter set of steps leading up to an atrium-style entryway, the all-white structure has three bedrooms and four baths in a little more than 2,500 square feet of single-level living space, boasting a mix of stone and blonde hardwood floors throughout. Fleetwood sliding glass doors also spill out to a covered lounge area overlooking a swimming pool and a fire pit.

A central patio overlooks a swimming pool and a fire-pit.

    Christopher Amitrano

Highlights consist of a formal dining space-turned-billiards room that connects via a two-way fireplace to an office nook and an accompanying living area, which sits adjacent to a streamlined kitchen outfitted with stainless appliances, a stylish backsplash, and an eat-in peninsula illuminated by a trio of dangling pendants. All of the bedrooms are of the en-suite variety, including a primary retreat hosting a walk-in closet, and a spa-inspired bath equipped with dual vanities, a rectangle soaking tub, and a glass-encased shower, and another one that’s been converted into a “very chic screening room” replete with a projector and surround sound.

In addition to the Hollywood Hills house, Perry—who in late 2022 released his first book, Friends, Lovers, and The Big Terrible Thing, a memoir where he opens up about his struggles with a Vicodin addiction—also owned a contemporary Pacific Palisades cottage that he purchased for exactly $6 million back in 2020. It’s there that he died from the “acute effects of ketamine,” according to an autopsy conducted by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
