French Artist Claire Tabouret’s Hand-Painted Home in L.A. Lists for $3 Million

Her enigmatic portraiture graces the collections of billionaire businessman François Pinault and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, among others. But L.A.-based figurative artist Claire Tabouret is probably best known as of late for traveling to her native France to create new stained-glass windows for the nearly 1,000-year-old Notre-Dame Cathedral, which reopened last December after a devastating 2019 fire and an ensuing restoration.

French officials chose Tabouret to replicate her vibrantly hued sketches of groups of people in prayer from a pool of more than 100 applicants, saying they hoped her work would “give the cathedral a flavor of the contemporary gesture that had been promised in the wake of the fire.”

A formerly white fireplace in the living room was given Tabouret’s special colorful touch.

Though the stained-glass windows won’t be on view to the public until the end of 2026, an equally eye-catching display of Tabouret’s artistry can be found some 5,600 miles away, across the Atlantic Ocean, at a 1920s Spanish residence in L.A.’s Los Feliz neighborhood that she’s shared with her musician/carpenter husband Nathan Thelen for the past six years.

Sited adjacent to the exclusive Laughlin Park enclave and currently listed for sale with Rob Kallick and Sara Kaye of Compass for a speck under $3 million, the creamy stucco and terracotta-roof structure is brimming with charming creative flourishes at every turn. Chief among them: a coffered wood-beam ceiling in the double-height living room boasting whimsical interpretations of scenes from the classic Rider-Waite-Smith tarot card deck, illustrated in the early 20th century by Pamela Colman Smith.

Per Architectural Digest, which featured the home in 2022, there’s a robed noblewoman with a falcon on her arm, a kneeling nude pouring liquid from jugs onto water and land, and two lovers split apart by what resembles a compass. Nods to the couple’s domestic life are also thrown in for good measure, including one card with their dogs and another showing their daughter Mattea riding a horse.

The country-style kitchen boasts a six-burner gas range from Bertazzoni’s Heritage Series.

The ceiling established the mood for the rest of the three-bedroom, three-bath residence, which the pair purchased in 2019 for $1.7 million and subsequently updated. Standing out among the roughly 2,700 square feet of multi-level living space is a spacious upstairs primary suite sporting a pergola-shaded balcony, a custom wardrobe, and a tiled bath with a soaking tub and steam shower. There’s also a terracotta-hued dining room, a yellow breakfast room, and a family room bathed in a dusty blue shade.

Atop the living room is a library loft, and elsewhere is an updated kitchen boasting a vintage-style range from Bertazzoni’s Heritage Series. A wall of arched French doors on the lower level open out to a courtyard garden, with the rest of the jasmine- and palm tree-laced grounds hosting several alfresco lounging and entertaining spots, plus an area that’s solely dedicated to the French lawn bowling game of pétanque.

Shepard Fairey Lists His Hillside Contemporary Home in L.A. for $4.7 Million

A multilevel home full of hope has just hit the market in Los Angeles. The $4.7 million spread is the residence of Shepard Fairey, the street artist best known for his 2008 stencil portrait of Barack Obama, then the Democratic candidate for president. Well known for his activism, Shepard also helped spearhead the “We the People” campaign that debuted during the Women’s Marches of 2017.

The contemporary abode, built in 2007 and acquired by Shepard in 2015 for about $2.5 million, sits on a steeply sloped street-to-street double lot in the Franklin Hills area of the Los Feliz neighborhood. An 18-foot glass entryway ferries you into the foyer, where a terrazzo-patterned floor is paired with handcrafted octagonal cherry-paneled faceted ceilings. A stone fireplace is the centerpiece of the sunken living room, while the sleek kitchen includes enough space for a spot to have a casual bite to eat.

The gleaming terrazzo floor in the dining room features a diamond-shaped wooden inset.

Jo David for Sotheby’s International Realty

Upstairs, the primary bedroom is accompanied by a sizable walk-in closet and a gray-green mosaic-tiled bathroom with a soaking tub. There are three additional bedrooms up here, along with a flex room that can serve as a gym, studio, or media lounge. Other features of the main residence include wooden built-ins, a tucked-away work area, a wine room, and a deck with sweeping views of the city surrounding you.

Notched into the beautifully landscaped slope below the main house is a lengthy swimmer’s pool, ideal for morning or evening laps. And set atop a multi-car garage is a glass-walled poolside guesthouse comprising an airy, one-room space equipped with a kitchenette and dining/lounge area, a desk, and a bedroom. Patricia Ruben and Alan Melkonyan of Sotheby’s International Realty—Los Feliz Brokerage hold the listing.

Fairey’s artistic work is held in the collections of many major museums, including the Smithsonian, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, but he is just as involved in the world of style. He founded the streetwear brand Obey in 2001, and in more recent years he’s teamed up with the watchmaker Hublot on limited-edition timepieces.

The 55-year-old artist and activist was born in Charleston, South Carolina. He’s lived in Providence, Rhode Island, and San Diego, California, but has been a resident of Los Feliz since at least 2005, when he shelled out about $1.4 million for a 1920s Mediterranean house that he sold in 2016 for $2.3 million to the actor Jason Segel.

The couple—he a director/producer of The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Tomorrowland, and Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol, and she a film editor for Big and Batteries Not Included—are asking a dash under $6 million for the residence they acquired in late 2014 for just over $4 million. There are quarter-sawn oak floors, plaster walls, and casement windows flaunting antique hardware and wavy glass panes throughout, plus numerous French doors opening to flat grassy grounds hosting a pool and spa, a citrus orchard, and a grapevine-covered pergola.

Once inside the hand-carved wood front door, an entry foyer flows to a soaring step-down living room sporting a wood-burning stone fireplace, along with an adjacent fireside library/media room with ornate built-in cabinetry. Kate Mara and Jamie Bell’s Genteel Southern Colonial Home in L.A. Is Up for Grabs at $5 Million

It’s been barely three years since Kate Mara and Jamie Bell doled out $4.8 million for a Los Angeles home in the leafy foothills of Los Feliz, and the Hollywood couple has already decided to hand over the keys to their stately Southern Colonial-style digs, asking a speck under $5 million. Patricia Ruben of Sotheby’s International Realty holds the listing.

The married actors—who have both appeared in a string of hit TV shows and films such as Fantastic Four, Billy Elliot, House of Cards, and American Horror Story: Murder House, just to name a few—acquired the property in 2022 in a clandestine off-market deal. The sellers were legendary New Zealand singer-songwriter Neil Finn of Split Enz and Crowded House fame and his longtime wife Sharon, who had only picked up the place two years earlier, in 2020, for $4.3 million. Before that, it was owned at different times by actress Katherine Heigl and Emmy-winning Simpsons writer Tim Long.

French doors in the comfy, denim blue family room open onto a wraparound deck.

Originally built in the early 1920s, the elegant white shingle-sided structure has undergone numerous updates through the years, including some recent cosmetic tweaks by Mara and Bell. Featured are four bedrooms and an equal number of baths spread across almost 3,700 square feet of two-level living space, which boasts lots of original architectural details, high ceilings, rustic hardwood floors, large windows, and French doors throughout.

Especially standing out on the main level is a light-filled living room sporting a wood-burning fireplace, as well as a family room displaying a TV cabinet embedded in a wall of bookshelves and access to a wraparound deck. Other highlights include a dining room and butler’s pantry that connect to a gourmet kitchen outfitted with an eat-in island, Thermador appliances, and an adjoining breakfast nook.

A renovated guesthouse with a striking wood-beam ceiling overlooks the pool area.

A traditional staircase leads from the foyer to the upper level, where a sizable primary suite features a marble-clad fireplace and a walk-in closet, plus a spa-like bath adorned with dual vanities, a spa tub, and a separate shower. There’s also a covered second-floor balcony overlooking the hedge-lined backyard, which hosts a pool and spa, along with a fireside seating area.

A detached guesthouse with dark green interiors, a vaulted wood-beam ceiling, and a full bath can also be found on the premises, which are fully walled and gated and sequestered away on nearly a quarter of an acre of land.

‘Masters of Sex’ Star Lizzy Caplan Lists Her Hollywood Hills Home for $2.85 Million

About four years before Lizzy Caplan married English stage and screen actor Tom Riley (and not too long after she split up with late actor Matthew Perry), the veteran film and television actress plunked down a tad more than $1.8 million for a circa 1961 modernist home in Los Angeles that nearly a dozen years later has popped up for sale with a $2.85 million price tag. Patricia Ruben of Sotheby’s International Realty—Los Feliz Brokerage holds the listing.

Alternatively, the 2,100-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-bath Hollywood Hills home, on a quiet street above Bronson Canyon in the Los Feliz Oaks neighborhood, is also available for rent at $15,000 per month, down from the original ask of $17,500 per month.

The kitchen’s emerald-green cabinets contrast with the wood ceiling and butcher block island.

Jo David for Sotheby’s International Realty

Beyond the gated courtyard entry and through the front doors, an atrium is bursting with lush greenery. Pale wood floors flow into the living room, anchored by a whitewashed raised hearth brick fireplace. Glass sliders open the room to the backyard, and clerestory windows bring tons of light into the fashionably eclectic space. A cozy adjoining sitting area is decked out with a curvaceous built-in sofa alongside built-in bookshelves.

The nearby kitchen, fitted with chef-grade appliances, emerald-green laminate cabinets and a rustic butcher block island set below two Moroccan lanterns, is open to a relaxed dining area that spills out to the backyard through more sliding glass doors.

One of the guest bedrooms is outfitted as a den with a built-in entertainment center, and the other, painted a deep shade of blue, has a contrasting wall of white oak wardrobes, while the primary bedroom is a calm oasis with a view into the atrium. The attached bathroom includes a wet area swaddled in blue tiles with an indoor-outdoor shower space.

The pool is shielded from neighboring homes by mature plantings.

Jo David for Sotheby’s International Realty

Tall trees and lush greenery ensure the backyard is private enough to skinny-dip with complete confidence the neighbors can’t see. Concrete terracing surrounds the pill-shaped pool, while a decked lounge area pushes out over the hillside with cushioned seating, retractable sunshades, and, if you sit in just the right spot, a peek-a-boo view of the Hollywood Sign.

Caplan’s early roles included several episodes of the cult fave TV series Freaks and Geeks and outcast Janis Ian in the 2004 comedy movie Mean Girls. More recently she portrayed Alex Forrest in the TV version of the 1987 film Fatal Attraction, and she’ll next be seen on the silver screen in the third installment of the Now You See Me heist film franchise.

For more than six years, Aimée Osbourne has lived in a Los Angeles residence she purchased for nearly $3.6 million from Oscar-nominated actress Rooney Mara. Now the musician and eldest daughter of Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne has decided to sell the midcentury home perched atop the prime Oaks neighborhood of Los Feliz. The asking price is a smidge under $4.4 million, with the listing held by Jonah Wilson and Rudy Serrato of Carolwood Estates.

It’s been a little over five years since actor Adam Goldberg doled out $2.5 million—$200,000 over the asking price—for a renovated 1950s home in Los Angeles. Now The Equalizer star and his designer/illustrator wife Roxanne Daner are looking to offload their traditional digs in a serene enclave of Los Feliz with a million-dollar jump in price, asking a speck under $3.5 million.
