    Tom Petty’s Longtime SoCal Home Just Popped Up for Sale at $19 Million

    Hoping to run down that dream of owning a musically pedigreed SoCal home? Spare yourself a breakdown, because Tom Petty’s longtime main digs nestled within a gated enclave high above Malibu‘s Pacific Coast Highway are yours for the taking! All you need is a cool $19 million, and you can happily claim the coveted keys to the legendary musician’s Mediterranean-style estate—barring a bidding war, of course.

    Before his death in 2017 at age 66, Petty paid $3.75 million and change in spring 1998 for the place, which includes a main home, a separate guesthouse, and another structure that served as a recording studio—for a total of seven bedrooms and 10 baths in roughly 10,000 square feet of living space.

    Originally built in the 1940s and retaining some of its original details, the gated structure rests on a 2.6-acre parcel and offers sweeping coastline views. The compound is “filled with love and musical creativity,” per the listing, which is held by Pamela Van Ierland with the Malibu office of Coldwell Banker Realty.

    As for the primary dwelling, the interiors are adorned throughout with dark hardwood floors, limestone accents, vintage light fixtures, and Spanish-tiled baths. Highlights include a spacious great room displaying a grand fireplace topped by hand-carved skylight covers (a personal touch from Petty). Also standing out is a gourmet kitchen with skylights, a central island, and an adjoining butler’s pantry, as well as a fireside dining room that seats up to 16, a wood-paneled library/TV area, and a music room where the rocker composed many of his popular tunes.

His oceanfront Malibu beach house swiftly sold to Canadian hotel mogul Salim Sayanin in early 2023 for nearly $10.3 million, or $400,000, over the asking price; and late last year, the musician’s widow, Dana York, paid $6.6 million for a revamped 1920s Spanish Colonial Revival-style home in L.A.’s Holmby Hills neighborhood.     Josh Radnor Sells in L.A., Anthony Rapp Relists in Manhattan, and More Celebrity Deals

    Back in 2019, actor and musician Josh Radnor plunked down nearly $3 million for a 1920s Spanish-style villa in Los Angeles. He then embarked upon an extensive remodel, complete with “global, well-traveled” interiors crafted by designer Kishani Perera. An added bonus: The place was even blessed by Buddhist monks once everything was completed.
    Now, since he’s newly married to Brooklyn psychologist Jordana Jacobs, the How I Met Your Mother star has decided to offload his bachelor pad, asking $3.85 million. The “old, sturdy, and stylish” home, which was featured in Architectural Digest last spring, is listed by Fred Dapp of The Agency.
    Tucked away behind walls and gates on less than a quarter-acre of land within the desirable Oaks neighborhood of Los Feliz, the ivy-covered structure features nearly 3,600 square feet over two levels adorned throughout with vintage elements like a hand-stenciled coffered ceiling gracing the double-height entry foyer, plus arched doorways, colorful mosaic tile, and stained-glass windows.
    Especially standing out is a gourmet kitchen outfitted with teal-hued cabinetry, Caesarstone countertops, a hand-painted Mediterranean terracotta tile backsplash, and Wolf appliances. A step-down living room displays a stone fireplace and a wall of black-stained bookshelves, along with a custom brass Moroccan chandelier hanging from an etched wood-beam ceiling.

    Four bedrooms include an upstairs primary suite hosting a private balcony, a bespoke walk-in closet, and an updated bath equipped with a marble vanity and the original built-in soaking tub. Outdoors, there’s a central courtyard ideal for al fresco lounging and entertaining, a “hidden hammock retreat,” and a reading porch.
    After a nine-season run as Ted Mosby on How I Met Your Mother, 49-year-old Radnor went on to play Dr. Jedediah Foster on the TV drama Mercy Street, Adam Epstein in the FX mini-series Fleishman Is in Trouble, and Lonny Flash on the mystery-crime show Hunters. He’s also done some theater work and released several studio albums.

    Anthony Rapp Puts a Reduced Price on His Manhattan Apartment

    It hasn’t yet taken 525,600 minutes for Anthony Rapp to sell his New York City condo, but it’s evidently been long enough for the Rent star to consider a newly reduced price for his Manhattan digs. Nine months after the East Village loft hit the market for nearly $3.9 million, the Obie-winning actor’s residence has popped up for sale again, this time with a reduced $3.65 million asking price—around $200,000 less than he originally wanted last October. The listing is held by Kristi Ambrosetti of Sotheby’s International Realty-East Side Manhattan Brokerage.
    Rapp and his longtime partner and now-husband Ken Ithiphol acquired the three-bedroom, three-bath corner unit in the luxury boutique building at 32 East 1st Street for around $3.5 million in October 2021. The couple, who welcomed their first child last December, are reportedly on the hunt for a bigger, more family-friendly home.

    Clocking in at about 1,500 square feet, the condo has white oak floors, high ceilings, modern millwork, triple-pane picture windows, and a Sonos sound system. A combined living/dining area is filled with light, while the galley-style kitchen boasts brushed oak Italian cabinetry, marble countertops, and high-end appliances. The primary suite offers a custom Molteni closet and a stone-clad bath, and another bedroom with a walnut Murphy bed/bookcase currently serves as an office.

    Back in fall 2020, Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden paid $14.6 million for a sprawling Beverly Hills compound. Now, almost four years later, the retired actress and Good Charlotte rocker have flipped the place back up for sale with a $3.1 million jump in price, asking for $17.8 million.
    Designed by ANR Signature Collection, the property includes a main home and a guesthouse—for a total of seven bedrooms and nine baths in a little more than 9,600 square feet of living space. A secured driveway passes through a gatehouse on its way to a motorcourt and a three-car garage.
    Once inside the primary gray stucco and metal-roof structure, highlights include formal living and dining rooms, a marble-laden kitchen sporting an eat-in island and top-tier appliances, a double-height family room warmed by a fireplace, and a primary suite with dual walk-in closets and baths.
    The amenities continue with a screening room and a bookshelf-lined office, as well as garden-laced grounds hosting a fire pit, an outdoor kitchen, and a waterfall-fed pool and spa.
    Diaz and Madden also own a $12.6 million mansion in Montecito, along with a Coldwater Canyon estate that previously belonged to actress Candice Bergen and a condo in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood.

    Jonah Hill Is Asking $16.7 Million for His Malibu Beach House

    After selling his contemporary home on the “land side” of Malibu Colony to cannabis investor Hartley Wasko for just over $11 million back in late 2022, the Oscar-nominated actor now wants to hand over the keys to his “beach side” residence in the same exclusive guard-gated enclave for $16.7 million.
    Purchased by the Moneyball star for nearly $15.5 million in summer 2022—and resided in for decades before that by Canadian filmmaker Paul Almond and his photographer wife Joan Almond, both now deceased—the three-level home sits on a compact 0.16-acre parcel that hosts a two-car garage and a gated entry in the front and a brick patio and an adjoining wood deck with steps leading directly to the sand out back.
    Built in the 1930s and updated through the years, the dark green, wood-shingled structure has four bedrooms and an equal number of baths in 3,100 square feet of living space featuring a fireside living room boasting a vaulted wood-beam ceiling and wide arched doorways flowing to a formal dining room and a family room.
    Elsewhere is a kitchen outfitted with hand-selected tile and newer stainless appliances, a primary suite that has an ocean-view balcony, a cozy den with a Dutch door, an office space, and a movie theater.
    As an aside, Hill’s former “land side” home is now back on the market for $14.2 million.

    Bella Poarch’s Midcentury House Is Up for Grabs in L.A.

    Mae West’s Former L.A. Hideaway Can Be Yours for $6 Million

    Always wanted to live like a Golden-Age celebrity—specifically, a legendary actress and sex symbol largely remembered for her bawdy one-liners? “When I’m good, I’m very good, but when I’m bad, I’m better,” just for starters. Well, now’s your chance because this Los Angeles beach house that the late Mae West once called home just popped up for sale in Santa Monica‘s Rustic Canyon neighborhood, asking a wink under $6 million.

    With four bedrooms and an equal number of baths spread across more than 3,400 square feet of two-level living space, the white stucco and terracotta-roof digs offer plenty of room for any like-minded thespian to easily relax in cinematic style while enjoying scenic ocean views. One of several L.A. properties occupied by West before her death in November 1980 at age 87—including her longtime residence at the historic Ravenswood Apartments—records show the place was last sold for $2.3 million in 2004 to real estate investor John Sauter and his wife LeeAnn, a designer and entrepreneur.

    Previously put up for sale by the Sauters in late 2022 at $8.3 million and then removed from the market, the charming abode also is currently available for lease at $24,500 per month.

    Nicolas Cage’s Former New Orleans Mansion Lands on the Market for $10.3 Million

    The late Marie Delphine LaLaurie is remembered as both a wealthy New Orleans socialite and an enslaver, and her gruesome legacy is tied to a historic mansion on Royal Street, which has been seen on America’s Most Haunted Homes and depicted on FX’s American Horror Story: Coven. 

    Though it is rumored to be haunted, according to The Wall Street Journal, that didn’t stop actor Nicolas Cage from buying the home in 2007. Two years later, the Hollywood icon, struggling to maintain a vast portfolio of properties around the world, lost the property to foreclosure; it was eventually scooped up by energy trader Michael Whalen for around $2.1 million in 2010. Whalen proceeded to pour over $4 million into renovations before recently putting the property back on the market for $10.25 million. Patrick Knudsen of Latter & Blum | Compass holds the listing. 

    The primary bedroom is a moody, decadent space with silk drapes and lavender jacquard wall coverings.

    The LaLaurie Mansion spans a commodious 10,284 square feet with a host of amenities that highlight its historical significance and grandeur. The home was completed in the 1830s, but its original structure was burned in an 1834 fire. The mishap left the charred interiors of the building exposed to the street, at which time abused slaves and chained bodies became visible to other residents of the French Quarter. Disgusted onlookers destroyed what remained of the structure, and the LaLaurie family reportedly sold the land by 1837. 

    An Empire-style antebellum home was later built on the property and was used as a girls’ high school at one point. It now features a three-story structure that houses the main house and is connected to a four-story service wing. New images of the home appear to lean into its spooky history, adding eye-catching colors like bright red, purple, black, and a wicked-green hue to modernized living and dining areas. Eight bedrooms, eight baths, and two powder rooms are spread across its expansive square footage, which is topped by a private rooftop deck.

    Over the years, married entertainment industry veterans Dick Ebersol and Susan Saint James have racked up some pretty impressive accomplishments.     Drop Out in High Style at the $65 Million Hitchcock Estate in New York’s Hudson Valley

    In 1963, clinical psychologist and pioneering psychedelic drug proponent Timothy Leary rented a huge house on a vast estate in the historic Hudson Valley village of Millbrook, which dates to before the American Revolution and ranks as one of the wealthiest enclaves in the state of New York. The almost 2,100-acre property had recently been acquired by brothers Billy and Tommy Hitchcock, members of one of the United States’ wealthiest families. The LSD advocate stayed five years, during which the estate was reportedly the target of drug raids.

    Still owned by the Hitchcock family, the storied property has recently come available with a price tag of $65 million. Should it go for anywhere near the asking price, it will totally obliterate the standing record as the highest residential sale in the Millbrook area, which currently stands at just under $19 million.

    Originally assembled over a period of almost 30 years beginning in 1889 from a handful of farms by German-born gas tycoon Charles F. Dieterich, a founder of Union Carbide, the vast property and its main house came to be known as Daheim. The estate was later owned by Standard Oil president and chairman Walter C. Teagle, who sold it in 1963 for a mere $500,000—nope, that’s not a typo, folks—to the Hitchcock brothers, heirs to the Mellon family oil and banking. Billy Hitchcock, who has long lived in Texas, told The Wall Street Journal that it was his sister Peggy who invited Leary to the Millbrook estate; he claimed she had a romantic relationship with Leary.

    Still owned by the Hitchcock family, the property’s mostly wooded acreage includes two lakes, one spanning 45 acres and the other 60, along with a 38-room Victorian mansion, a smaller (but still very spacious), single-story residence known as “the bungalow,” and numerous other residences and outbuildings.

    The four-story Victorian, originally designed by James E. Ware in the late 1800s, was much expanded during Dieterich’s time and spans almost 15,000 square feet. The house fell into a state of neglect, but over the last few years it has seen numerous restoration efforts and upgrades overseen by a local historian. Today, the public rooms still showcase high ceilings and ornate fireplaces, elaborate wood paneling, a carved wooden staircase, and stained-glass windows. Among the ten bedrooms is a two-room suite connected by a shared sitting room. There are also staff quarters. 

    The 2,100-acre estate’s secondary residence is a 10,000-square-foot bungalow designed by Addison Mizner.

    The low-slung, elegantly proportioned bungalow measures about 10,000 square feet and sits on a slight rise above a swimming pool; it was commissioned by Dieterich and designed by famed architect Addison Mizner, who is best known for the Mediterranean mansions he designed in the early 20th century.

    Other buildings sprinkled around the property include a bowling alley housed in a stone building; several Bavarian-style structures that include a gate house; a three-bedroom caretaker’s cottage; a carriage house with two apartments for guests or staff; and an extensive stone-built equestrian and farm complex.

    One of L.A.’s ‘Most Interesting’ Estates Lists for $15 Million

    Around 14 years ago, Moby doled out just over $3.9 million for a “replica of a Norman castle” that was reportedly occupied in previous years by the likes of Debbie Reynolds, Marlon Brando, and The Beatles. Alas, the Los Angeles spread proved too “elaborate for one simple little guy,” so the musician and architecture aficianado wound up selling the fairytale-esque digs after four years and an extensive restoration at a hefty profit. Now, a decade later, the illustrious structure has once again popped up for sale in the Beachwood Canyon neighborhood of Hollywood Hills, this time with a $15 million asking price.

    “I loved Wolf’s Lair,” Moby said of the place he called “the most interesting home in L.A.” at the time. “If I’d started a cult or a family (and trust me, I’ve tried to start both) it would have been the perfect home. Basically I wanted something simpler than a mountaintop castle.”

    Originally built in the late 1920s for real estate developer and art director L. Milton Wolf (complete with a turreted room for his exotic pet gibbon), the estate was sold to Moby in 2010 by businessman Jay Faires and onetime TV host Debbie Matenopoulos. Moby went on to drop about $2 million on an extensive renovation and restoration before transferring it in 2014 as part of an off-market deal to an LLC tied to Switzerland-based Nathaniel (Nat) Rotschild, a wealthy heir to the Rotschild banking dynasty, who undertook his own update of the premises.

    Hidden away behind walls and gates, atop a secluded promontory spanning 3.4 acres, the property includes a main house and a guesthouse that was tacked on in the 1960s by noted modernist architect John Lautner—for a total of eight bedrooms and six baths in nearly 5,000 square feet boasting carved-wood details, arched doorways, coffered ceilings, and large windows overlooking picturesque views of Lake Hollywood, the iconic Hollywood Sign, and Griffith Observatory.
