Red Sox Legend David Ortiz’s Former Miami Mansion Lists for $11.5 Million

Major League Baseball great David Ortiz—better known as “Big Papi”—is back in Miami real estate headlines. The former first baseman’s former North Pinecrest estate, a modern showpiece packed with luxury perks, has just returned to the market with an $11.5 million price tag. The current listing is held by Dennis Carvajal with One Sotheby’s International Realty.

Ortiz, who retired from MLB in 2016 after a decorated career with the Boston Red Sox that included 10 All-Star appearances and three World Series titles, originally purchased the land in 2016 for $1.5 million and completed construction on the home in 2019. In early 2023, he listed the custom-built estate for $12.5 million, and by June of that year, it had sold for nearly $10.6 million—a record-breaking deal for Pinecrest, the Wall Street Journal reported at the time. The sale narrowly beat out the previous high of $10.5 million, set in 2022 when Miami Heat star Tyler Herro picked up a snazzy home in the same neighborhood.

Tucked behind gates on more than an acre of landscaped grounds, the five-bedroom, eight-bathroom residence spans just over 10,000 square feet and is designed with both visual drama and plush comfort in mind. Fire and water features welcome you at the entrance, setting the tone for a home that blends high-impact design with laid-back vibes.

Floor-to-ceiling glass walls flood the interiors with great volumes of light and make for seamless connections to the tropically planted backyard. At the heart of the home is an Italian Officine Gullo kitchen with a walk-in pantry—equal parts gourmet and gallery-worthy. Upstairs, four bi-level bedrooms each have individual sitting areas. The primary suite offers a boutique-style closet, spa-like bath with a floating tub, and, at 16 feet long, a shower plenty big enough to easily accommodate a professional athlete.

Ortiz made sure the home didn’t skimp on fun, either. There’s a high-tech home theater with recliners and a wet bar, plus a custom-built sports lounge complete with a wall of nine flat-screen TVs—perfect for catching every angle of the game.

Out back, the resort-style amenities continue with a pool, spa, summer kitchen, multiple covered terraces, a gazebo, and three fire pits. Located near top-rated schools and some of the city’s most prestigious addresses, the estate is a home run for anyone looking to live large in Miami.
