      Johnny Cash Built This Rustic Tennessee Home for His Son. Now It Can Be Yours for $6.25 Million.

      Sometime in the 1980s, country music icons Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash commissioned the late master builder Braxton Dixon to build a home for their son, Johnny Carter Cash. At that time, the younger Cash was just a teenager who eventually followed in his family’s legendary footsteps to become a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, musician, and producer. Dixon—aka Nashville’s builder to the stars—also restored and updated an 18th-century log cabin on the thickly wooded 21-acre parcel in Hendersonville, Tennessee, about 30 minutes outside of downtown Nashville. 

      Known as Dogwood Estate, the property has just come up for sale with an asking price of $6.25 million. Erin Krueger and Mary Spotts of Compass hold the listing.

      The location of Dogwood Estate was hardly arbitrary; the elder Cashes had long owned a nearby spread, a six-structure compound also built by Dixon called Sycamore Homestead. In fact, the two properties share a driveway that passes over a wooden, Dixon-built covered bridge. 

      The rustic home was built in 1987 by the late master builder Braxton Dixon.

      The main house is set in a small clearing with two bedrooms and three bathrooms in nearly 4,300 square feet. Among its many rustic charms are exposed wood walls, yellow heart pine floorboards, stained glass windows from Europe, and Amish-built stone fireplaces.

      The great room includes an open kitchen with custom oak cabinetry that incorporates a charming built-in dining booth, while a huge three-season porch and an equally spacious adjoining screened porch both have treehouse-like views into the canopies of surrounding trees. Elsewhere, a den does double duty as an office with a long, built-in desk, and a massive fireplace anchors a lower-level family room. All three bathrooms are updated—one has a classic claw-footed tub—and the primary suite is a spacious retreat that includes a sitting area with a thirty-foot cathedral ceiling, a fireplace, and a roomy dressing area.

      The cabin, which dates to 1789 according to marketing materials, stands apart from the house. There’s a large room joined by a porch, along with a lofted area. There is not a kitchen or bathroom, so it’s perhaps best suited as a place for quiet relaxation or as a music studio or creative space.

      A 18th-century cabin on the property was also refurbished by Braxton Dixon.

      Johnny Carter Cash sold Dogwood Estate in 1993, and nearby Sycamore Homestead, which spans nearly six acres with six structures, has not been in the Cash family for quite some time either; the current owner bought Sycamore Homestead in 1992 and now has it on the market for $3.3 million.

      For more than 30 years and until they died within months of each other in 2003, Johnny and June Carter Cash made their primary home a 14,000-square-foot mansion on the shore of Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville. Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees bought the 4.5-acre property in 2005, but the house burned to the ground in 2007 while undergoing renovations. Gibb built a new house, and the property has since changed hands several times.

      Actress Nancy Kulp’s Former Los Angeles Home Hits the Market for $2 Million

      Fresh on the market and overlooking the San Fernando Valley is the former Los Angeles home of the late actress and comedian Nancy Kulp, best remembered for her role as Jane Hathaway in the CBS sitcom The Beverly Hillbillies. 

      Listed for just shy of $2 million, the Studio City residence was originally built back in 1946 and has been given an extensive overhaul in the years since. According to the listing, which is held by broker Yana Barenek of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties, the single-story abode features three bedrooms and two bathrooms in a modest 1,436 square feet of living space. It also comes with permits for a casita, or a flexible space that can be used as an office or even a yoga studio.

      Nestled on Laurelwood Drive, Kulp’s former pad is positioned behind gates on a roughly 13,895-square-foot lot at the end of a long, semi-private driveway. In fact, it’s right next door to the former home of Kurt Russell (The Thing, Escape From New York) and down the block from where Henry Winkler (Happy Days, Barry) once lived. The exterior of the property is dotted with mature trees for extra privacy. Plus, there’s a pathway flanked by waterfalls on both sides leading up to the entry.

      “The residence feels like a secluded, peaceful sanctuary in the heart of the city,” notes the listing. Inside, the revamped spread comprises vaulted beam ceilings, hardwood floors, whitewashed walls, tons of natural stone, and glass windows and doors galore to amplify the mountain views. The kitchen is decked out with designer fixtures, custom white cabinets, and top-of-the-line appliances. There’s also an adjacent family room with a large fireplace, a six-person dining room, and a lavish primary suite with access to an outdoor deck.

      The grounds have also been transformed and now include a huge, sun-splashed deck with a pergola for shade, a garden with automated irrigation, an EV charging port, and off-street parking for up to five cars.

      Kulp, who died in 1991 at the age of 69 after battling cancer, got her start on My Three Sons in 1962. In 1967, she nabbed an Emmy nomination for her role as Mr. Drysdale’s secretary, Miss Jane Hathaway, and appeared on The Beverly Hillbillies for nine seasons until the show was canceled in 1971.

      You Can Rent Josh Duhamel’s L.A. Home for $15,000 a Month

      It was just over a month ago that actor Josh Duhamel and his wife, Audra Mari, welcomed their first child together, and now it appears the Transformers star is hoping to generate some additional income to support his growing family.  

      Duhamel, the star of the film Buddy Games and the host of its reality competition show spin-off, is looking for someone to rent his former home in Encino, California, for a cool $15,000 per month, according to Realtor.com. The actor shelled out just shy of $2.7 million for the ranch-style residence back in 2018, around the time he and his first wife, the pop star Fergie, split up. 

      The abode is positioned on a cul-de-sac and tucked behind a gate, kind of like a modern, monolithic fortress. Originally built in the 1960s, the residence is heavily inspired by the work of award-winning French architect Philippe Starck, notes the listing, which is held by Thomas Atamian of Compass.

      And what does fifteen grand get in one of L.A.’s most affluent San Fernando Valley neighborhoods? How about a light-filled great room with soaring high ceilings, hardwood floors, and wall-to-wall windows that offer up sweeping jetliner and mountain views. Nearby, the gourmet chef’s kitchen is decked out with a dramatic Caesarstone island, glossy white cabinetry, and top-of-the-line Thermador appliances. Altogether, the single-story spread comprises four bedrooms and four bathrooms in more than 3,280 square feet of living space.  

      The dwelling’s primary suite recently underwent a swanky renovation in 2023 at the hands of celebrity designer and former Bravo house flipper Jeff Lewis. In fact, fans might recognize the remodel from season two of Hollywood Houselift, Lewis’s reality series on Amazon Freevee. The bedroom, which has outdoor access, now features two spacious walk-in closets, and in the ensuite bath, you’ll find a stone-and-glass steam shower, a soaking tub, and a double vanity, which creates a serene, spa-like vibe. “The whole thing just turned out beautifully,” Duhamel said during the show. Outside, the grounds include a large swimming pool, a fire pit, and a wooden deck.  

      Back in September, Duhamel revealed to People that the couple had planned on relocating before the baby arrived. “We’re moving next month,” Duhamel told the magazine. “We’re moving out of the old bachelor pad into an actual home.” The couple’s new home, also in Encino and purchased last year for just over $5.9 million, has six bedrooms and seven baths in about 8,000 square feet.

      During a recent appearance on In Depth with Graham Bensinger, the 51-year-old actor and “doomsday prepper” shared additional details about his real estate portfolio, which includes a self-sustaining compound in Minnesota. The lakeside property, which spans 26 acres, includes two cabins and a sauna.

      Seann William Scott Is Selling His Custom-Built L.A. Compound for $5 Million

      Bye, bye, Mr. American Pie. Seann William Scott, best known for playing Steven Stifler in the 1999 coming-of-age film starring Jason Biggs, is parting ways with his California home.  

      The actor’s Venice compound recently hit the market for just shy of $5 million and includes a historic, 1.300-square-foot bungalow and a glass-and-steel house behind it. Altogether, the two abodes offer five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and 4,600 square feet of living space. According to Bloomberg, who first reported on the listing, Scott bought the 5,148-square-foot lot back in 2017 after relocating from New York. At the time, he paid $2.2 million for the spread but admitted he planned on flipping the property for a profit.  

      “I don’t think people who know my work would imagine I’m an architectural design nerd,” Scott told the media site. “But I am.” The lengthy renovation took about six years to complete. The Dude, Where’s My Car? star had the idea to combine the two buildings and collabed with his wife and interior designer, Olivia Scott, on the project. The remodel included taking the bungalow downs to the studs while the other glassy structure was already “bare bones,” Scott told Bloomberg.

      The smaller of the two dwellings had some catching up to do in the aesthetics department. The overall vibe here is chic and minimalist with lots of natural, organic materials. The one-story bungalow has earthy tile floors throughout and the kitchen is clad in Caesarstone and warm wood. Elsewhere, you’ll find two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a dining room that leads to a covered deck. “We kept the footprint of the place, but it was basically a new building,” Scott told Bloomberg. 

      On the other hand, the glass-and-concrete loft has three bedrooms and four bathrooms spread across three levels. Designed by architect Kevin Mulcahy, highlights of the home are its accordion glass doors on the ground floor, a double-height entertainment area, and a second kitchen that’s kitted out with floating marble shelves, wood paneling, and original steel beams.

      Scott, who will play a disgraced cop in the upcoming movie Bad Man, is proud of all the work that’s gone into revamping the property. However, he admittedly has his doubts about handing the home to its next owner. “This place is so cool, and I love Venice so much. Am I making a mistake selling it?”

      Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer Are Selling Their Custom-Built L.A. Home for $8 Million

      Known for their co-starring roles on HBO’s hit vampire drama True Blood, real-life couple Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer are parting ways—with their home, that is. And if you want to sink your teeth into their stately abode in Southern California, it’ll cost you a cool $8 million.  

      The property, which measures 7,102 square feet, sits on a large double lot not far from the world-famous (and always entertaining) Venice Beach Boardwalk. According to records, the Hollywood duo purchased the property back in 2009 for $2.2 million. They’ve since transformed the humble beach cottage that stood on the property into a sprawling contemporary residence. They first tried to sell in 2020, listing the beachy spread for a hefty $14 million. It did not entice a buyer, and since then, the residence has been on and off the market at lower prices.

      The third floor has an open kitchen, dining, and living area that extends to a rooftop deck.

      The actors tapped architect David Hertz—who designed Hank Moody’s (David Duchovny) house on Showtime’s Californication—to re-imainge the property shortly after they bought it. The project ended up taking seven years. Today, the boxy structure is wrapped head-to-toe in Alaskan yellow cedar. Specifically, Hertz opted to recycle the original, circa-1919 benches from the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles to craft the façade. He told Architectural Digest that he wanted “the outside to look like driftwood” and that the goal was for the home to resemble a ship, complete with steel railings and teak decks.  

      When it comes to the layout, the floor plan is flipped, meaning all common areas are on the third floor to maximize access to light, breezes, and views, while the bedrooms are nestled underneath. The open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area on the top floor leads to a rooftop deck that overlooks the ocean. Other standout features include a Zen garden, a partially covered swimming pool, a sauna, a spa, and a fitness room.

      The home was custom-built in 2017 by architect David Hertz.

      The compound comprises a five-bed, eight-bath main house. The original beach bungalow was renovated is now incorporated into the existing home. In terms of décor, the salt-air-licked house fits right in with the neighborhood’s free-spirited, bohemian vibe. There’s concrete flooring and tons of eco-friendly touches, including energy-efficient lighting. “There are also skylights that open to draw prevailing breezes in to passively cool the house with natural ventilation,” Hertz told the magazine.

      Rufus Wainwright’s L.A. Home Hits the Market for $2.2 Million

      Canadian singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright has put his Los Angeles home of almost a decade on the market, and yes, there are yellow walls, and they are in fact lined with portraits.

      The Grammy-nominated musician is officially parting ways with his Laurel Canyon abode that he bought together with his husband, Jörn Weisbrodt, back in 2016. At the time, the couple paid $1.45 million for the for the storybook-style cottage and are now asking for a cool $2.2 million. Wainwright, who released his newest album, Folkocracy, in June 2023, announced the news in a post on his Instagram page.

      “The time has come…Jörn and I are listing our gorgeous Laurel Canyon home,” the crooner wrote in the caption. “We have lived in this house since 2016. I wrote ‘Unfollow The Rules’ here, including one of my favorite pieces ‘Peaceful Afternoon.’ We have had many of those here and I hope that the next tenants enjoy it as much as we did.”

      Originally built in 1926, the whimsical spread contains three bedrooms and four bathrooms. The quirky residence is decked out with tons of enchanting original elements, including dramatic wood-beamed cathedral ceilings, charming stained-glass windows, and a cozy fireplace clad in vintage tiles. One of the standout spaces is the super cool octagon-shaped library, which is complete with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. Elsewhere, you’ll find a bright yellow formal dining room with diamond-paned picture windows, several balconies, and a sky-blue family kitchen with a built-in breakfast nook. The outdoor spaces feel even more fairytale-like. The grounds are dotted with trees and include an alfresco dining area, a patio, a pond, and what the listing refers to as a “lovers bridge.”

      According to Dag Eliason of the Agency, who’s representing the property with colleague Alexandre Anu, Wainwright’s absence in the local community will not go unnoticed. The broker told Mansion Global that on warm summer nights, his neighbors could recall hearing piano playing coming from the terrace. “It’s a very inspirational house,” Anu said. “For Rufus, as a songwriter, he wanted a place he could pull inspiration from.”

      However, the “Poses” singer reassured his followers that he wouldn’t be going far. “Of course, Viva, Siegfried, Jörn, and I will stay in LA,” Wainwright explained on social media, noting that his 12-year-old daughter and his dog would be coming with him. “We love living in this city and exploring a new area.”

      A ‘Seinfeld’ Producer Listed a Los Angeles Mansion for $17.8 Million

      Hollywood producer Andrew Scheinman—whose credits include Seinfeld, A Few Good Men (1992), and When Harry Met Sally (1989)—has put his newly transformed Los Angeles mansion on the market.  

      The boxy contemporary home on rustic Old Orchard Road is listed for a cool $17.8 million with David Kramer of Hilton & Hyland/Forbes Global Properties and Paul Czako of Gussman Czako Estates. According to property records, the writer-director originally purchased the pad back in 2018 for just shy of $4.5 million. Following the sale, the home was redesigned by the award-winning firm Rockefeller Kempel Architects. The comprehensive overhaul was completed just this year. 

      TV and film producer Andrew Scheinman has put a revamped Los Angeles home up for sale.

      The filmmaker’s Brentwood abode sits on under an acre of land above Lower Mandeville Canyon and comprises six bedrooms and a whopping nine bathrooms. Set behind gates, the hillside is dotted with 150 newly planted trees, while lush greenery surrounds the driveway, which has room for more than 15 cars. Among the spread’s standout features are a 28-foot limestone-walled entry, custom wide plank European oak flooring, red cedar paneling (both indoors and outside), and tons of glass.

      On the main floor, the living room is decked out with a giant floor-to-ceiling stone-clad fireplace. Nearby, a transparent 72-bottle wine closet separates the living area from the dining room. In the kitchen, you’ll find an eat-in island for up to six people, a hidden walk-in pantry, and top-of-the-line appliances from Miele, Wolf, and Sub-Zero. The digs also sport an elevator, a rooftop deck that faces the ocean, a private gym with an infrared sauna, and a movie theater that’s equipped with a 165-inch screen and Dolby Atmos surround sound system. 

      The residence was redesigned by Rockefeller Kempel Architects.

      The second floor holds an atrium that leads directly to the primary suite. The bedroom is like a private oasis that’s replete with two fireplaces for maximum coziness, a spacious wraparound terrace, and dual bathrooms, both of which include a custom center island and walk-in closets.  

      The resort-style grounds are predictably spacious, with an alfresco dining area and kitchen. The latter includes a grill, a pizza oven, and a beverage center. Steps away, there’s a large swimming pool with lights, so you can swim at night. Throw in a pool house with a bathroom, a washer-dryer, a rain shower, and a wet bar, and you may never want to come inside.

      These 10 Sports Stars Had the Most Expensive Real Estate Transactions of 2023

      Even as the luxury housing market fluctuates, one thing remains steady: sports celebs love to play the real estate game.

      Last year, celebrated University of Alabama football coach Nick Saban splashed out eight figures for a mega-mansion in South Florida, while NFL Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw offloaded his sprawling Oklahoma ranch. At the same time, Chicago Bulls shooting guard and two-time NBA All-Star Zach LaVine set a record when he scored a lavish estate in southern California’s Newport Beach.

      A new report from luxury real estate brokerage RubyHome Northwest analyzed the 10 biggest property moves made by sports figures in 2023, whether that meant investing in a new home, putting a residence on the market, or selling a swanky place for a profit. At the top of the list was LaVine, whose $34 million transaction made headlines as the priciest home ever sold in Orange County’s exclusive Pelican Crest community. The athlete’s new digs, a Tuscan-style mansion, measures 11,200 square feet and offers six bedrooms and seven bathrooms, The Real Deal reported. Originally built in 2010, the villa has sweeping views of Newport Beach. Plus, it’s packed with tons of perks, including a movie theater, a private gym, a golf simulator, and a swimming pool.

      Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford came in second place after the Super Bowl LVI champ threw down a cool $28.2 million on a spec home in Hidden Hills—the most ever paid for a house in the guard-gated community that is a favorite among music stars, professional athletes, and the Kardashian family. Stafford and his wife, Kelly, also own the house next door, which they purchased in 2022 for $10.5 million.  

      Terry Bradshaw sold the Oklahoma ranch that he custom-built over two decades.

      “With new milestones set by Zach LaVine and Matt Stafford, the data underscores a vibrant landscape within the sports celebrity real estate realm, with approximately 14 sports stars making acquisitions, 47 listing properties, and 36 completing sales in the past year,” a spokesperson for RubyHome Northwest said in a press statement. “We also found football stars are the most dominant in the results, showcasing NFL names as strategic buyers and adept at leveraging their property assets.” 

      Speaking of football stars, legendary Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw parted ways with his custom-built, 744-acre ranch near the Texas border, Icon Global confirmed in a news release. Last asking $22.5 million, the longtime Fox Sports broadcaster’s former estate includes eight lakes and ponds, horse stables, riding trails, several barns, and an 8,600-square-foot residence.

      Holding down the fourth spot is retired NBA point guard Goran Dragic, who is hoping someone scoops up his Miami abode, which is currently on the market for just shy of $20 million. Dubbed La Grande Dame (shout out, Karen Huger!), the 6,000-square-foot home is positioned on Biscayne Bay and comprises seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms.  

      It appears Saban, who announced last week that he’s stepping down from coaching college football after a successful 17-year run, will be spending some of his retirement in the Sunshine State, where last year he dropped $17.5 million for a palatial home on Jupiter Island. The waterfront home, which was listed with Joanne Wagner and Susan Turner of The Corcoran Group, includes a private dock, a 40,000-pound boat lift, and 150 feet of ocean frontage.

      Along those same lines, Justin Verlander picked up a $16.75 million penthouse in New York City after the MLB pitcher inked a deal with the Mets, while former NBA star Jason Kapono is aiming to offload his 6,200-square-foot-home in Austin, Texas, which hit the market last October for $13.5 million.  

      Recently retired University of Alabama football coach Nick Saban dropped $17.5 million for a mansion on Florida’s Jupiter Island.

      In the eighth spot is former Atlanta Braves great Chipper Jones, who landed a buyer for his 37-acre spread in Georgia. The massive property, which fetched a record-setting $11 million, is equipped with eight bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a horse barn, a movie theater, a bike track, and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

      Next up was Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff, who shelled out $10.5 million for a new home in Manhattan Beach, California. The property was previously owned by Modern Family executive producer Danny Zuker and by MLB pitcher Ken Brett. (It was also formerly occupied by NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal.) More recently, Goff picked up the house next door for $8.6 million.

      Last on the list, but definitely not least, off-road racer-turned-developer Roger Norman parted ways with his record-setting acquisition of a huge home in Reno, Nevada. Dubbed the Pennington Mansion, the stone-clad crib clocks in at 20,000 square feet; the $10.3 million deal went down as the biggest in the city’s history.
