One of the ‘Buying Beverly Hills’ Stars Is Selling a TV Composer’s Home in L.A. for $6 Million

Though the reality show Farrah Brittany starred in alongside Mauricio Umansky and her sisters was recently canceled after two seasons on Netflix, the Buying Beverly Hills star is still peddling properties for the family real estate business. In fact, the stepdaughter of Umansky and daughter of Kyle Richards—he the co-founder and CEO of The Agency brokerage firm the series followed, and she his estranged wife and a cast member of The Housewives of Beverly Hills—has just hoisted a particularly eye-catching residence in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Hollywood Hills up for sale, asking a smidge under $6 million.

In another TV-related twist, the home is owned by Shuki Levy. And while he’s not exactly a household name, if you happen to be a connoisseur of animated cartoons from the 1980s and ’90s, you’ve likely come across his handiwork. There are the memorable theme songs he composed for 130-plus children’s shows, including Inspector Gadget and He-Man and Masters of the Universe, and his work as one-half of the producing team that created the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers franchise.

The cozy family room is adorned with a fireplace and wet bar.

Records indicate that Levy and his chef and food blogger wife Tori Avery doled out $1.45 million in spring 1994 for the property, which is nestled amid a gated cul-de-sac parcel spanning almost 1.6 acres and includes a Spanish-style main house, plus a wood-clad guest cabin—for a total of seven bedrooms and an equal number of baths in nearly 6,500 square feet overlooking sweeping city lights and mountain views.

As for the multi-level primary residence, a double-height entry foyer displaying a curving floating staircase flows to a dedicated office space, as well as formal living and dining rooms separated by a double-sided fireplace. A gourmet kitchen boasting marble countertops, a workstation, a center island, top-tier Viking appliances, and a breakfast nook connects to the fireside family room, which comes complete with a wet bar and a powder room.

The charming wood-clad guest cabin features a private deck overlooking the grounds.

Upstairs, the primary suite is decked out with a private balcony and another two-way fireplace that opens to a spa-like bath with dual vanities, a soaking tub, a separate shower, and two walk-in closets. The bottom floor, meanwhile, offers a gym, a movie theater, a game room, and direct access to garden-laced grounds hosting a resort-style pool and spa, a koi pond, a gazebo, a barbecue, a pizza oven, and plenty of spots ideal for al fresco lounging and entertaining.

Rounding it all out is the 582-square-foot guest cabin, which sits amid the treetops and features a bedroom, a full bath, a kitchenette, a loft, a sauna, and its own deck. There’s also a spacious stone motorcourt out front that can hold up to 10 vehicles.

Jeremy Renner’s Longtime L.A. Home Hits the Market for $13 Million

A little over a decade ago, Jeremy Renner acquired a 1960s abode in the Hollywood Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles. There, in what he has referred to as his “forever home,” the veteran film and TV actor and prolific real estate developer added a wealth of particularly lavish personal touches. He also spent time recuperating from a horrific snowplow accident that occurred at his Nevada residence in early 2023 and nearly cost him his life.

“I split my time between a house in Lake Tahoe and my home in Los Angeles,” Renner said on his Tumblr account awhile back. “In both, I spent money on things I wouldn’t have done in a spec home. I installed a massive solar-panel package that’s one of the biggest in L.A. You’d never do that on a house you’re going to sell, because it takes four or five years to get your money back on the investment. I wouldn’t have built a giant lagoon with a dive bridge and waterfall sculpted by the guys who do it for the San Diego Zoo. That’s a little too radical for some buyers, but I’m building a house I’m going to live in for the rest of my years. It’s about my taste and my desires.”

A detached recording studio Renner installed could easily be converted into a home office.

But that was then! Now, 12 years later, the Mayor of Kingstown star has opted to part with his longtime home and has the place up for sale, asking a smidge under $13 million—or around $9 million more than he paid back in spring 2012. Per The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the news, Renner extensively renovated the premises during his tenure to the tune of about $5.5 million, most notably more than doubling the size of the house while being sure to retain its midcentury roots. He also added a detached recording studio and graded the sloped lot to allow for more functional outdoor space.

An open-concept living area is adorned with a large raised-hearth fireplace and a bar area.

Originally built in the early 1960s, the low-slung structure is tucked securely behind walls and gates amid a cul-de-sac parcel of land spanning over an acre within the Nichols Canyon area, near Runyon Canyon Park. A total of six bedrooms and nine baths are spread across 4,000 square feet of open-concept living space, which is adorned throughout with dark gray polished floors, wood-beam ceilings dotted with clerestory windows and skylights, and Fleetwood sliding glass doors providing seamless indoor/outdoor environs.

Especially standing out is a mirror-lined living area boasting an eye-catching fireplace and a snazzy bar. Other highlights include a screening room and a formal dining space that connects to a gourmet kitchen hosting dual islands, top-notch stainless appliances (including a pricey La Cornue range), a walk-in pantry, and an accompanying breakfast nook with banquette seating. A spacious primary suite flaunts a private wraparound balcony, dual closets, and a luxe bath.

An elegant chandelier-topped primary bedroom opens to a balcony with treetop views.

Four additional en-suite bedrooms all have access to the picturesque grounds, which are spotlighted by a pool and spa with bridges and waterfalls, as well as plenty of spots that are ideal for al fresco lounging and entertaining. A separate guesthouse with an en-suite bedroom and an attached three-car garage also can be found on the property, which is listed by Rayni Williams and Branden Williams of The Beverly Hills Estates.

According to WSJ, the 53-year-old Northern California native and two-time Oscar-nominated actor is selling because he is looking to downsize and focus on his recovery. “I need to kind of move on to other things,” said Renner, who recently wrapped filming of the latest season of the TV series Mayor of Kingstown and is gearing up to work on a book about his near-death experience and recovery.

This 1920s Los Angeles Estate Was Once Home to Ava Gardner and Laurence Olivier

Nothing says old Hollywood glamour like a celebrity-connected estate in Los Angeles. Originally built in 1927, this Spanish-style pad in the Hollywood Hills has housed a slew of stars in its nearly century-long history including Oscar-nominated actress Ava Gardner and cinema legend Laurence Olivier. Fun fact: It’s also the former residence of English comedian Stan Laurel. On the market with Hilton & Hyland and Forbes Global Properties, 3351 N Knoll Drive is currently listed as a rental asking a cool $18,500 a month.

Designed by Franz Herding, the hillside oasis has five bedrooms and six bathrooms across a spacious 5,839 square feet. The Swiss-born architect moved to Los Angeles in 1923 where he became the city planning engineer before he died in 1968. According to the Pacific Coast Architecture Database (PCAD), Herding and his family actually lived next door at 3355 N Knoll Drive.

The living room features a fireplace, arched display niches, and a leafy view into the surrounding treetops.

    Alexandre Anu and Dag Eliason

Given its location in the Hollywood Knolls neighborhood near Lake Hollywood, the boundaries between indoors and outdoors are intentionally blurred, so you never feel too far from the natural surroundings . A broad, curvilinear terrace along the back of the house offers 180-degree views over the neighborhood and below, the terraced gardens include hedge-lined walking paths and steps that lead down to a small stretch of grass.

The multi-story abode is loaded with swoon-worthy period details including a speakeasy butler’s bar with a wine cellar. Elsewhere, you’ll find traditional Spanish elements such as wood-beamed ceilings, polished hardwood floors, casement picture windows, and terracotta tile accents. The fireside living room is bright and airy with a leafy view, while the formal dining room opens onto the expansive elevated terrace and provides even more incentive to hang outdoors. Upstairs, the primary suite is kitted out with a massive walk-in closet, more beamed ceilings, a sitting area, and a private terrace.

The spacious primary suite includes indoor-outdoor sitting areas.

The Hollywood Hills has long been a sought-after locale for celebrities. Beloved for its hill-hugging homes, epic vistas, and rolling landscape, it continues to draw hordes of A-listers to its narrow, winding street. English comedian and Get Him To the Greek actor Russell Brand is currently selling his home in the Outpost Estates area—interestingly, he once owned a castle-like home that previously belonged to Olivier—and, in the same area, the home where Lord of the Rings star Orlando Bloom once resided recently hit the market for $5 million.

Russell Brand’s Hacienda-Style Hideaway in L.A. Just Hit the Market for $3.5 Million

Back in fall 2019, Russell Brand plunked down $3 million and change for a hacienda-style hideaway in Los Angeles. Now the British comedian and actor who appeared in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek has decided to offload his secluded property after nearly five years of ownership, with the price tag set at $3.5 million.

Hidden away behind a gated driveway, amid a half-acre parcel of land nestled within the celeb-studded Outpost Estates neighborhood of Hollywood Hills, the creamy stucco and terracotta-roof structure was originally built back in the 1950s. Since renovated, the three-bedroom, five-bath home offers 3,500 square feet of two-level living space boasting hardwood floors, vaulted wood-beam ceilings, picture windows, and skylights throughout.

Though images aren’t available, the listing shows a tiled entry foyer that flows to a light-filled living room displaying a wood-burning fireplace tucked into the corner and two sets of pocketing glass doors opening to a covered al fresco dining terrace. An adjacent dining area connects to the “charming” eat-in kitchen, which is outfitted with wood cabinetry and a patterned tile backsplash.

RELATED: A Horror Filmmaker’s Former L.A. Home Just Hit the Market for $4.2 Million

Upstairs, the primary suite has a fireplace, a private balcony, and an updated bath with dual vanities, a built-in spa tub, and a shower; and the fully fenced grounds host a swimming pool, an outdoor shower, several seating areas, meandering pathways, and a meditation hut. There’s also a detached carport flanked by a motorcourt, plus a separate kitchenette-equipped guest unit that rests alongside a fountain-clad courtyard.

Brand, who was recently baptized amid rape and sexual assault claims made by multiple women, has owned other homes in the Hollywood Hills through the years. During his short marriage to Katy Perry, the couple paid $6.5 million for a Mediterranean-style compound that they never even moved into before selling it at a million-dollar loss to Las Vegas-based businessman Lorenzo Doumani. Brand also once owned the former castle-like home of Laurence Olivier, which he sold some years ago.

It’s no secret that Outpost Estates has long been a favored residential enclave for celebrities. Besides Brand, homeowners have included Orlando Bloom, whose former black-painted mansion is currently on the market for $5 million, as well as Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy, Bob Barker, Winona Ryder, Shaun White, and Charlize Theron. More

A Horror Filmmaker’s Former L.A. Home Just Hit the Market for $4.2 Million

If the walls of this historic Los Angeles house could talk, they’d probably begin with relating stories of what it was like to serve as a onetime gathering spot for German and Austrian intellectuals at the invitation of writer Franz Werfel and his socialite wife Alma, the widow of composer Gustav Mahler. They also might chatter a bit about the duo of Hollywood scions who once resided here—Dennis Hopper’s designer daughter Marin, who shared the place with her entrepreneurial husband John Goldstone, as well as Michael Landon’s youngest son Christopher, a horror filmmaker known for flicks like Disturbia and Happy Death Day.

But wait, that’s not all! These walls also might have some insight into the life and work of Maybeck Award-winning architect Barton Myers, who presided here with his wife Victoria. More recently, though, they probably would speak of current caretaker Travis Nash, who is known for co-founding the luxury cannabis and apparel brand Potent Goods with his Juicy Couture-designer mother Gela Nash-Taylor.

Whatever the case may be, this edifice is no doubt filled with plenty of tasty tales, and honestly, we can’t wait to see who the property’s next interesting steward will be!

The family room flaunts a snazzy wet bar flanked by French doors that open to a terrace.

    Adrian Van Anz

Records show Nash and his wife Veronica acquired the saga-filled structure from Christopher Landon in summer 2018 for $3.1 million. Now, six years later, the couple has decided to flip the two-story Spanish-style dwelling in the Outpost Estates neighborhood of Hollywood Hills back on the market for a smidge under $4.2 million. The listing is held by Jade Mills and Alexis LaMontagna of Coldwell Banker.

Nestled securely behind high walls and bougainvillea-topped gates, amid a third-acre parcel resting at the end of a cul-de-sac and high above the Hollywood Bowl, the creamy stucco and red terracotta-roof dwelling was completed way back in the late 1920s, per online reports, and today features four bedrooms and a matching number of baths in a little more than 3,200 square feet of “meticulously renovated” living space boasting a mix of dark hardwood and Saltillo tile floors, pitched wood ceilings, fancifully wallpapered walls, and arched doorways throughout.

The bi-level primary bedroom suite has a screening/sitting room up top.

    Adrian Van Anz

Among the main-level highlights is a step-down living room sporting a stonework fireplace, plus an adjacent family room with a wet bar and a modernized kitchen that has an eat-in island embedded with a farmhouse sink and a wine cooler, top-tier stainless appliances, and an accompanying dining area offering up views of Griffith Observatory. Standing out on the lower floor is the primary suite, which comes complete with a lofted screening/sitting room and a luxe marble bath equipped with dual vanities, a freestanding tub, and two walk-in closets.

The amenities continue outdoors, where an inviting brick-clad courtyard out front is enhanced with a tree-shaded entertaining space and a wood-burning fireplace, while the garden-laced backyard is spotlighted by a tiled spa and numerous terraces offering picturesque views across L.A.

Orlando Bloom Painted This L.A. Mansion Black. Now It Can Be Yours for $5 Million.

A decade after actor Orlando Bloom sold his home in the Hollywood Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles for nearly $4 million, the Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean star’s notorious black-painted abode has once again surfaced for sale. Fully transformed on the inside—but still retaining that dark-hued façade that reportedly annoyed neighbors at the time and has since become rather trendy—the ranch-style abode is now on the market for a speck under $5 million. The listing is held by Claire and Sam O’Connor of Berkshire Hathaway.

Records show Bloom and his ex-wife Miranda Kerr paid almost $2.8 million for the house in 2007. The couple—who were burglarized at this same spot around two years later by the film-immortalized teen Bling Ring crew—wound up selling the home in 2014 to an unknown buyer before it ultimately went to former Hulu executive and BlueView Real Estate founder Jeff Martin through foreclosure in 2022 for $3.1 million.

A spacious fireside living room has walls of windows and a door flowing out to an al fresco dining patio.

    Nils Timm

Tucked away behind gates amid a double parcel spanning three-quarters of an acre in the Outpost Estates enclave that weaves into the foothills above Hollywood, the wood-sided and blue-shingle-roof structure was originally built in the 1940s. Extensively remodeled during Martin’s ownership, the premises feature four bedrooms and an equal number of baths in roughly 3,300 square feet of stylish Francesca Grace-designed living space boasting white oak floors and high wood-beam ceilings throughout, plus doors in every room opening to the outside.

Among the highlights is a window-lined living room sporting a striking veined-marble fireplace and a door spilling out to a patio that’s ideal for al fresco lounging and entertaining. A wainscoted dining room links via a hallway to the sky-lit kitchen, which is outfitted with custom cabinetry, an eat-in island, top-tier stainless appliances, and a cozy fireside seating alcove.

The home’s recently updated grounds feature a pool and spa surrounded by a brick terrace.

    Nils Timm

Elsewhere is an office space with yet another fireplace and a primary suite that comes complete with a wood-fluted accent wall, a built-in window seat, a walk-in closet, and a luxe bath flaunting dual vanities, a soaking tub, and a large rainfall shower. Outdoors, the terraced grounds are showcased by a waterfall-fed pool and spa encased within a brick-clad sundeck and steps leading up to a lofty pergola-shaded seating area overlooking the city lights.

Also holding court on the property, per Mansion Global, is a bedroom that feels separate from the home and can be used as a recording studio, a fitness room, or an office, along with a lengthy driveway that empties out at a spacious motorcourt flanked by an attached two-car garage.

One of L.A.’s ‘Most Interesting’ Estates Lists for $15 Million

Around 14 years ago, Moby doled out just over $3.9 million for a “replica of a Norman castle” that was reportedly occupied in previous years by the likes of Debbie Reynolds, Marlon Brando, and The Beatles. Alas, the Los Angeles spread proved too “elaborate for one simple little guy,” so the musician and architecture aficianado wound up selling the fairytale-esque digs after four years and an extensive restoration at a hefty profit. Now, a decade later, the illustrious structure has once again popped up for sale in the Beachwood Canyon neighborhood of Hollywood Hills, this time with a $15 million asking price.

“I loved Wolf’s Lair,” Moby said of the place he called “the most interesting home in L.A.” at the time. “If I’d started a cult or a family (and trust me, I’ve tried to start both) it would have been the perfect home. Basically I wanted something simpler than a mountaintop castle.”

The fireside living room has a bookshelf-flanked picture window offering up views of Griffith Observatory.

Originally built in the late 1920s for real estate developer and art director L. Milton Wolf (complete with a turreted room for his exotic pet gibbon), the estate was sold to Moby in 2010 by businessman Jay Faires and onetime TV host Debbie Matenopoulos. Moby went on to drop about $2 million on an extensive renovation and restoration before transferring it in 2014 as part of an off-market deal to an LLC tied to Switzerland-based Nathaniel (Nat) Rotschild, a wealthy heir to the Rotschild banking dynasty, who undertook his own update of the premises.

Hidden away behind walls and gates, atop a secluded promontory spanning 3.4 acres, the property includes a main house and a guesthouse that was tacked on in the 1960s by noted modernist architect John Lautner—for a total of eight bedrooms and six baths in nearly 5,000 square feet boasting carved-wood details, arched doorways, coffered ceilings, and large windows overlooking picturesque views of Lake Hollywood, the iconic Hollywood Sign, and Griffith Observatory.

The park-like grounds are spotlighted by a kidney-shaped pool alongside a pool house.

Inside the primary residence, largely period interiors are highlighted by formal living and dining rooms, as well as a galley kitchen sporting high-end stainless appliances and a breakfast nook with built-in banquette seating. One of the bedrooms has been transformed into an office space, while the primary suite features a bath equipped with dual vanities, a soaking tub, and a separate shower.

A two-bedroom guesthouse that was used as a recording studio during Moby’s tenure has its own living area, kitchen, and roof deck, and rounding it all out are park-like grounds showcased by a kidney-shaped pool nestled alongside a pool house, a pergola-shaded dining area, and private hiking trails. There’s also said to be a “secret” subterranean room that once served as a prohibition-era bar, plus an attached two-car garage and a cobblestone motorcourt.

One of Matthew Perry’s L.A. Homes Lists for $5.2 Million

Before he passed away in October 2023 at age 54, Matthew Perry plumped up his real estate portfolio with yet another Los Angeles residence. The comedian, producer, and actor—best known for his Emmy-nominated role as Chandler Bing on the long-running sitcom Friends—doled out a speck under $5 million in an off-market deal for a sleek midcentury-modern villa in Hollywood Hills that was originally listed for around $6 million. Now that place has popped up for sale once again, this time asking $5.2 million.

Built in 1957 and recently renovated, the place is nestled amid an almost quarter-acre parcel above the Sunset Strip. Fronted by a short yet wide driveway that empties out at an attached two-car garage, as well as a privacy screen and an off-kilter set of steps leading up to an atrium-style entryway, the all-white structure has three bedrooms and four baths in a little more than 2,500 square feet of single-level living space, boasting a mix of stone and blonde hardwood floors throughout. Fleetwood sliding glass doors also spill out to a covered lounge area overlooking a swimming pool and a fire pit.

A central patio overlooks a swimming pool and a fire-pit.

    Christopher Amitrano

Highlights consist of a formal dining space-turned-billiards room that connects via a two-way fireplace to an office nook and an accompanying living area, which sits adjacent to a streamlined kitchen outfitted with stainless appliances, a stylish backsplash, and an eat-in peninsula illuminated by a trio of dangling pendants. All of the bedrooms are of the en-suite variety, including a primary retreat hosting a walk-in closet, and a spa-inspired bath equipped with dual vanities, a rectangle soaking tub, and a glass-encased shower, and another one that’s been converted into a “very chic screening room” replete with a projector and surround sound.

In addition to the Hollywood Hills house, Perry—who in late 2022 released his first book, Friends, Lovers, and The Big Terrible Thing, a memoir where he opens up about his struggles with a Vicodin addiction—also owned a contemporary Pacific Palisades cottage that he purchased for exactly $6 million back in 2020. It’s there that he died from the “acute effects of ketamine,” according to an autopsy conducted by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
